Phoenix A: Internet Sensation! ( GL , ABO) - Chapter 12
“Bird, launch.”
Yu Mengling let out a relieved smile and quietly murmured to herself, “Father, I’ve avenged you.”
She didn’t intend to run, nor did she want to hide. Even if losing her freedom for the rest of her life was the price, she would never regret avenging her father.
Later on, Jiang Zhiwan finally understood that the extreme act A-Ling had committed was deeply tied to the long-term psychological manipulation and control inflicted by Li Yilin.
She had been desperate for freedom. Her overwhelming hatred and mental trauma had merged together, becoming the force that drove her out of control.
“Zhiwan? Zhiwan! Zhiwan!”
“Hm?” Jiang Zhiwan snapped out of her thoughts and realized Yu Mengling was already leaning in close to her.
In her memories, those eyes had once been lifeless and void of hope. But the eyes looking at her now were full of energy and light. The contrast was striking.
Yu Mengling gave her a puzzled look and asked, “What were you thinking about so intently? I’ve called your name several times.”
Jiang Zhiwan certainly wasn’t going to tell her the truth, so she brushed it off with a vague response.
Just then, her phone chimed with a notification. The document she had been waiting for had finally arrived.
Before opening it, Jiang Zhiwan decided to ask one more thing. “A-Ling, what do you think of that alpha we met tonight?”
Yu Mengling thought about it for a moment, then answered casually, “Honestly, not much. He seems overly calculating. Once you see through it, it just feels clumsy.”
For example, his desperate attempts to showcase himself, and how he kept trying to get her attention in obvious ways.
These actions weren’t immediately noticeable, but after hearing Zhiwan’s subtle comment of “heh,” Yu Mengling had started paying closer attention.
After hearing her response, Jiang Zhiwan nodded and handed her the newly received file. “You’re right. That alpha is definitely hiding too much.”
Meanwhile, Li Yilin was still sitting at the table, waiting. The two omegas hadn’t returned for quite some time, and he was still trying to figure out his next move.
Things weren’t going the way he had planned. At this rate, it was likely he wouldn’t get a second chance.
Where had it all gone wrong?
He narrowed his eyes and shifted his gaze to the small ink-colored bird resting on the table.
When Jiang Zhiwan had left earlier, she had wanted to bring the bird with her. But Shen Nian had been busy eating dessert and refused to go. Zhiwan didn’t want to force her, so she had left her behind for the time being.
This little creature seemed rather clever. Had it been specially trained?
Li Yilin, curious for once, reached out to grab the bird for a closer look.
Shen Nian had no intention of letting this scumbag alpha touch her. She flapped her wings twice and nimbly dodged his hand.
Seeing how the bird actively avoided him, Li Yilin felt a surge of anger rising inside. He cursed silently, thinking how ungrateful this little thing was.
His urge to catch it only grew stronger.
Now that he had dropped the facade and stopped pretending, Shen Nian began chirping furiously while cursing him non-stop in her mind.
Yu Mengling really had terrible taste. How did she fall for trash like this?
According to the plot of the original story, Yu Mengling would be fooled by this alpha’s polished and gentle exterior, only realizing his cruel and twisted nature after marriage.
He didn’t just engage in domestic violence. He also took pleasure in abusing living creatures.
Wait—abusing living creatures?
Shen Nian’s eyes lit up. She suddenly knew exactly how to sabotage this matchmaking attempt.
Judging by the time, the two omegas should be returning soon. Rather than wait, she would draw this scum out and let them see his true colors for themselves.
With her mind made up, Shen Nian sprang into action. She targeted the two empty plates in front of Li Yilin and knocked them over with a clean, swift strike.
The loud clatter clearly irritated him, and his expression twisted with anger.
Seeing he was thoroughly provoked, Shen Nian deliberately left herself open, tempting the violent alpha to catch her.
“Ha! Got you at last, you little beast!”
Li Yilin grabbed the bird with one hand while using the other to impatiently loosen his tie.
This damn bird had challenged him all night. It was time to teach it a lesson.
He glanced at the boiling hot pot in the center of the table. The bubbling broth made a gurgling sound as it simmered, and an idea came to him instantly.
He raised the hand holding the parrot high into the air, preparing to throw it in. A cruel smirk spread across his face.
“Perfect. I was curious to see what a spicy live bird would taste like.”
Tch. Spicy live bird? Who did he think he was trying to scare?
Shen Nian thought to herself that while others might see her as just a lively little ink-painted bird, that didn’t mean she was actually a bird.
She was a phoenix. Why would she be bothered by a bit of hot water?
To Shen Nian, even if she were really thrown into the pot, it would be nothing more than a warm bath. There was nothing to fear.
In fact, she was already planning her next move. Right before Li Yilin let go, she would turn herself into a tiny ball of flame and make sure this piece of human garbage got badly burned.
Li Yilin, always calculating and cautious, had already come up with an excuse while preparing to teach this strange, unidentifiable bird a lesson.
If the bird liked to fly around and someone failed to keep an eye on it, then even if it accidentally fell into the hot pot, it wouldn’t be his fault.
The cruel act, seemingly perfect in its cover, was suddenly interrupted by a sharp voice as Yu Mengling returned to the table.
“Stop!”
Jiang Zhiwan was even faster. She pressed firmly on two acupoints on Li Yilin’s wrist. The pain and numbness hit instantly, causing his hand to weaken.
She then swiftly and safely caught the dazed little bird before any harm could come to it.
Everything happened so quickly that Shen Nian let out two reflexive chirps.
Shen Nian thought, What a move. Young warrior, impressive skills.
Jiang Zhiwan, having understood the absurd little compliment, said nothing.
Very well. Clearly, the bird was completely fine and hadn’t been frightened at all.
After confirming that Shen Nian was unharmed, Jiang Zhiwan gently placed her back on her shoulder. Then she lifted her head and stared coldly at the man responsible.
Even with sunglasses covering her eyes, the intensity of her glare made Li Yilin feel a very real pressure.
However, due to his professional training, he had strong mental control. Even after being caught red-handed, he still tried to keep his composure.
“Ladies, you’ve misunderstood. I was only playing around with the bird just now.”
Yu Mengling was amazed by how shameless he was and immediately cut him off.
“Mr. Li Yilin. Considering what you just did, do you honestly believe your own words?”
Exposed so bluntly, Li Yilin’s expression instantly darkened.
At first glance, Yu Mengling had thought he looked polished and presentable. Now, the more she looked at him, the more disgusted she felt.
She said bluntly, “I don’t have any unusual preferences, and I certainly don’t admire alphas who abuse small animals.”
Besides, based on the information Zhiwan had just handed her, it turned out this man had already been in legal trouble before.
Yu Mengling picked up her handbag. She had no intention of staying any longer.
“I don’t see any reason for this so-called blind date to continue.”
Li Yilin watched her turn to leave and still refused to give up. He tried to explain himself again.
“Miss Yu, this is really a misunderstanding. I never intended to hurt your friend’s bird…”
Instinctively, he took a step forward, but Jiang Zhiwan blocked his path.
He stared at her and stopped in his tracks without realizing it. The arm she had struck earlier still ached with a dull, lingering pain.
