Picked Up a White Cut Black Wife - Chapter 13
“Wife,” Shen Qiao murmured, licking her slightly dry lips as her gaze lingered intently on Shen Zhao’s face. “You’re so beautiful.”
“Let go of me!”
Next time, she would never let this woman get within an inch of her again!
Shen Zhao’s anger clouded her mind. She yanked her hand free and slapped Shen Qiao.
As if feeling no pain, Shen Qiao remained unmoved, tilting her head to study Shen Zhao’s subtle expressions. A wave of pure joy surged through her heart, as sweet as honey.
“Wife, you’re so cute.”
Trapped and with nowhere to escape, Shen Zhao snapped, “Shen Qiao, are you…?”
“Wife, you said my name!” Shen Qiao exclaimed, unable to contain her delight. She nuzzled against Shen Zhao’s cheek. “Wife.”
Disgusted, Shen Zhao pushed her hand against Shen Qiao’s face. Instantly, Shen Qiao reversed the situation, pressing her cheek against Shen Zhao’s palm.
Now Shen Zhao couldn’t pull away, nor could she leave her hand there. She nearly ground her teeth to dust.
“Wife, don’t be angry,” Shen Qiao said, releasing her grip. But unable to resist, she boldly leaned in and planted a quick kiss on Shen Zhao’s cheek before darting to the other side of the room, sitting primly as if nothing had happened.
It took Shen Zhao a few seconds to react. She grabbed a tissue, frowning as she scrubbed her cheek raw until a faint stinging sensation stopped her. Glancing up, she caught Shen Qiao grinning mischievously.
How infuriating!
Just then, the servers began bringing out the dishes—small plates of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy delicacies, covering nearly half the table.
After all the commotion, Shen Zhao propped her head up, her appetite gone. She just wanted to get away from this woman as quickly as possible; even looking at her was irritating.
“Wife,” Shen Qiao said, oblivious to Shen Zhao’s annoyance, and eagerly sat down beside her.
“Don’t talk,” Shen Zhao snapped. “Just eat.”
“Why isn’t Wife eating?”
Shen Zhao shot her a glance, too annoyed to argue further. She picked up her chopsticks and casually picked a few dishes to put in her bowl.
The sound of slow chewing came from beside her. Shen Qiao looked slightly more obedient when she was eating.
But the moment lasted only two seconds. Shen Qiao was soon clinging to her hand again. “Wife, what’s that bug?”
“What bug?” Shen Zhao followed her gaze and sighed in exasperation. “That’s a crab.”
To avoid further nagging, Shen Zhao simply picked up the crab with her chopsticks and placed it in Shen Qiao’s bowl. “Eat it. It won’t kill you.”
Shen Qiao stared at the crab in her bowl, making no move to touch it. She turned to Shen Zhao for help. “Wife…”
Shen Zhao sighed, picked up the nearby utensils, and resigned herself to being Shen Qiao’s personal server. “Miss, hurry up and eat. Tell me if you want more.”
“Wife~” Shen Qiao tugged shyly at Shen Zhao’s sleeve. “I don’t know how to do it yet. But once I learn, I’ll take good care of you.”
“There’s no need for that. I’d be grateful if you just stayed away from me,” Shen Zhao said, wiping her hands clean before placing the plate in front of Shen Qiao.
Shen Qiao cheerfully ignored the comment, taking small, happy bites from the bowl. “Thank you, Wife.”
After the meal, plenty of food remained on the table. Shen Zhao had it packed up so they could reheat it for dinner and avoid going out later.
“Get up. Let’s go home.”
Feeling stuffed, Shen Qiao leaned back in her chair, rubbing her stomach and giving Shen Zhao a pitiful look. “Wife, I can’t get up.”
“Who told you to eat like a starving ghost?” Shen Zhao sighed and sat down to wait for her.
“Wife, I’m so full. Can you rub my stomach?” Shen Qiao grabbed Shen Zhao’s hand and placed it on her belly. “See? It’s really stuffed.”
“Serves you right,” Shen Zhao said, patting her lightly before pulling her up. “We’ll get some digestive pills later.”
Shen Qiao clutched her stomach with one hand and looped her other arm through Shen Zhao’s, shuffling forward slowly.
Outside the restaurant, Shen Zhao found her a place to sit while she went to buy the medicine.
It’s only because I have nothing else to do today, she thought. Otherwise, this troublesome creature would drive me mad.
After quickly buying the medicine and returning, Shen Zhao suddenly noticed three or four shady-looking men loitering around Shen Qiao. Their swaggering demeanor made it clear they were up to no good.
Shen Zhao unconsciously quickened her pace, calling out loudly, “Shen Qiao—!”
“Wife!” Shen Qiao immediately turned around, her face lighting up like a startled rabbit.
The men, who had been pulling out their phones to ask for her number, heard the authoritative tone of the approaching figure and, unwilling to cause trouble, reluctantly retreated.
“Fvck!” The leader cursed under her breath as they walked away, slapping the man beside her on the head.
“Boss, I got a weird feeling about that girl. Did you see her eyes just now…?”
“Shut up! What’s so weird about her? We couldn’t even handle a little girl!”
The man shrugged and fell silent.
“What happened just now?” Shen Zhao asked, frowning as she approached.
Clutching her phone, Shen Qiao replied indignantly, “They wanted my phone! This is the one Wife bought me! I wouldn’t give it to them!” She hugged the phone tightly, as if it were a precious treasure.
Shen Zhao couldn’t help but feel a mix of amusement and exasperation. She didn’t bother explaining that they had only wanted her phone number. Instead, she said, “From now on, ignore people like that. Remember to call me—no, call 110 instead.”
“Okay, I’ll call you, Wife.”
“Is your stomach still upset?” Shen Zhao handed her the digestive tablets and twisted open a bottle of mineral water. “Chew these.”
They sat in a corner of the open-air plaza, where light snow drifted down, but the sun’s rays added a touch of warmth. In the center of the plaza, people were singing and skiing.
Small groups of people huddled together, their breath misting in the air, as if the winter’s chill had momentarily been banished.
After taking her medicine, Shen Qiao gently leaned against Shen Zhao’s shoulder. Shen Zhao shifted slightly but ultimately let her be.
The soft sound of Shen Qiao’s breathing filled her ear, and the bustling world suddenly seemed peaceful and quiet.
They sat on the bench for a long time, until snowflakes clung to their hair and Shen Zhao’s shoulder grew numb from being used as a pillow. “Get up, it’s time to go home,” Shen Zhao finally said.
“Okay, Wife,” Shen Qiao replied, giving Shen Zhao’s cheek a final nuzzle before standing up.
After brushing off the snow, they got into the car and drove home.
As they pulled into the residential complex, they heard the distinctive wail of an ambulance. Driving further in, they saw the ambulance parked right in front of their building.
Neighbors out for walks or walking their dogs stood at a distance, watching curiously.
To avoid blocking the road, Shen Zhao quickly drove the car forward a bit, planning to wait for the ambulance to leave before parking.
Just then, a stretcher was carried out. Though her limbs were restrained, the man on it writhed violently, babbling incoherently. A doctor quickly administered a sedative, and the man gradually calmed down.
Why does she look so familiar?
It wasn’t until she saw the two elderly people following beside the stretcher that she recognized the man’s identity.
As the stretcher passed their car, the man’s profile turned toward them. Her eyes were bloodshot and bulging, like those of a malevolent spirit.
Suddenly, the man’s pupils dilated wildly, and her body began to convulse violently. “Help… me… Save me—”
The doctors carrying the stretcher hurried their pace, and the man’s voice gradually faded away.
“Wife, she looks like that bad guy,” Shen Qiao said, leaning lazily against Shen Zhao’s shoulder with an innocent expression. “What happened to him?”
“I don’t know,” Shen Zhao replied coolly, puzzled by how the man had deteriorated so drastically in just a few days. But she deserves it.
As the ambulance drove off, the crowd began to disperse, murmuring among themselves. Apart from a few sympathetic elderly people, most sighed and muttered, “She got what she deserved.”
