Picked Up an Amnesiac Little Mermaid - Chapter 10
The bathroom was quiet at night, its pristine white tiles reflecting a hint of blue.
Yu Huai was cradled in Gu Yunyue’s arms, her legs limp as she was gently placed into the suspended bathtub.
Gu Yunyue’s white bathrobe was already damp, the hem dripping steadily.
Her eyes darkened. “Wash yourself.”
The blue-haired girl gripped the edge of the tub tightly as a fine spray of water cascaded from the showerhead.
“Water… so nice, so cool…”
The moment Yu Huai’s skin touched the cold water, she let out a satisfied sigh, curling her petite frame into the tub—so much so that one might worry she’d drown.
Her pale blue eyes shimmered with a lazy amusement.
Her smooth, snow-white legs swayed slightly in the water, her nightgown floating on the surface.
“Miss Gu, won’t you join me?” Yu Huai’s fingers lightly tugged at Gu Yunyue’s pinky as she rested her cheek against the tub. “It feels so good.”
The cool water soothed the mermaid’s parched heat.
A seductive charm lingered in her gaze.
Gu Yunyue’s head throbbed as if pierced by needles, yet her eyes remained fixed on Yu Huai’s damp blue strands.
She restrained herself. “No, I’ve already washed.”
Yu Huai’s cold fingers wrapped around Gu Yunyue’s pinky, her cherry lips pressing a kiss to it as she complained,
“It’s so dry staying in the air all day. I’m turning into a little fish jerky.”
“Miss Gu is so mean. You just promised to bathe with me.”
Gu Yunyue lowered her gaze, scooping the floating nightgown out of the water and tossing it into the washing machine. Without a glance, she set the bathrobe, towel, and soap by the tub.
“Call me when you’re done. I’ll carry you out.”
Yu Huai’s almond-shaped eyes lingered on Gu Yunyue, puzzled why this human refused to bathe with a fish.
Only when the bedroom door shut coldly did the mermaid pout, slapping the water with her legs before sliding fully under.
The cool water submerged her mouth and nose, her blue hair floating like seaweed as tiny pearl-like bubbles escaped her lips.
Any human witnessing this would surely be terrified.
…
Just beyond the wall, Gu Yunyue sat flushed on the edge of the bed, her damp bathrobe still clinging to her.
Bare feet sinking into the plush carpet, she listened to the faint trickling of water.
Her eyes were bloodshot as she stared blankly at the silent night beyond the floor-to-ceiling window—her own slightly dazed reflection staring back.
Closing her eyes, all she saw was Yu Huai’s body in the tub, more translucent than porcelain.
Her collarbones and shoulder blades were the most exquisite Gu Yunyue had ever seen. Her ankles were delicately defined, her toes not clumsy like most women’s but lively and endearing.
A single brush against her soles revealed their softness.
The sound of water grated on her nerves, her heart pounding wildly as her head buzzed with pain.
Clutching the sheets, Gu Yunyue gritted her teeth against the waves of agony radiating from her skull.
“Useless doctor…” Had they prescribed placebos?
She swallowed a handful of white pills, yet the pain only worsened.
If anything, it grew fiercer.
She had never engaged in any under-the-table dealings with artists from her company, nor had she ever kept any young lovers. Never had she seen a girl lying so vulnerably before her, completely unguarded.
The sound of running water in the bathroom was like an invisible chain around Gu Yunyue’s neck, pulling all her attention toward the thin glass door.
Gu Yunyue murmured to herself, “Can Yu Huai really cure my headaches? Or is it just my imagination?”
…
Inside the bathroom, in the white porcelain bathtub, a metallic blue tail splashed about. The large caudal fin shimmered with pearlescent light, flanked by delicate, gauzy fins more exquisite than the finest silk from Qing Mountain.
Yu Huai lovingly stroked her restored tail, her heart brimming with joy. The cool, smooth tail curled pitifully in the bathtub, its luster undiminished. If placed in a mermaid nursery in the interstellar world, it would still be the most beautiful tail.
As she traced the ugly, unhealed wound, a flicker of regret passed through her eyes. The injury was extensive, marring nearly a third of her tail. She clearly remembered acquiring this wound after crossing into the 21st century, but the exact cause eluded her memory.
Tears welled up in Yu Huai’s eyes, and pearls pattered into the bathtub. “I’m just an ugly little fish. No one would love a mermaid with such an unsightly tail,” she whispered sorrowfully, hugging her fragile, disfigured tail and pressing her cheek against the cool scales. “If Miss Gu knew I was a mermaid—and such an ugly one at that—she’d never want me.”
Yu Huai’s tail fins slapped the water, drenching the entire bathroom. She murmured, “If Miss Gu saw how beautiful my tail used to be, maybe she’d like me then.”
With a heavy heart, she gathered the pearls from the bathtub and hid them in a drawer, tenderly caressing her tail.
“Yu Huai, are you done?” Gu Yunyue knocked on the glass door, her voice unusually hoarse. “It’s been an hour.”
Gu Yunyue’s eyes were bloodshot. The pain she’d endured in that hour was several times worse than usual.
Startled, Yu Huai’s tail thumped against the countertop, sending body lotion, shampoo, and shower gel crashing to the floor in a noisy clatter.
Gu Yunyue’s voice sharpened with urgency. “Did you fall?” She banged on the door. “I’m coming in right now.”
Panicked, Yu Huai broke into a cold sweat, her body and forehead damp. Her gaze fixed on her mutilated tail, the tip trembling with anxiety. “Wait! Don’t come in!”
No—she absolutely couldn’t let Gu Yunyue see her like this, so hideous.
Gu Yunyue stood motionless, her lips dry and cracked. Veins bulged on the back of her hand as she pressed it firmly against the glass door. “Yu Huai, don’t scare me.”
Silently counting to ten, the veins on her temples and hands stood out starkly. She felt like she’d lost her damn mind—standing outside the bathroom in the middle of the night, waiting for her little lover to finish showering.
She wanted to join her, but some ridiculous sense of propriety held her back, leaving her to suffer her headache alone. Just thinking about it was absurd.
The pain was driving her mad. This was her house, and Yu Huai was hers—why should she hesitate?
With a forceful push, she shoved the glass door open—
A flash of metallic blue darted past her vision—inside the bathtub lay a pair of flawlessly pale legs.
The floor was in complete disarray, with barely any space to step.
Yu Huai was slumped entirely over the edge of the tub, her legs brushing against the cold tiles as she shivered.
Dripping wet, she gazed pitifully at Gu Yunyue. “I… fell.”
The girl’s voice was clear and full of grievance. “Miss Gu, help me up?”
Gu Yunyue stared blankly at the pristine white bathtub. “Just now…?”
Had she just seen a flicker of blue?
A hallucination from her headache?
The girl clutched tightly at the hem of Gu Yunyue’s skirt. “It hurts, it really hurts. Miss Gu, can you carry me to bed?”
As Yu Huai’s voice reached her ears, miraculously, Gu Yunyue’s pain vanished—as if it had never existed in the first place.
Gu Yunyue said, “…”
So, she really was a miracle cure.
Gu Yunyue scooped the delicate beauty into her arms with one hand, wrapping her in a towel.
A flicker of doubt crossed her mind. “How did you make such a mess of the bathroom?”
Yu Huai giggled evasively, nuzzling against Miss Gu’s neck. “Sorry~”
Gu Yunyue set the dripping girl onto the bed. The room was dark and silent, save for her own heavy breathing.
On the nightstand sat several white pill bottles—undeniable proof of someone’s severe illness.
Gu Yunyue’s gaze darkened. “Yu Huai, my head hurts so much.”
Yu Huai pinched Gu Yunyue’s cheek lightly. “Should I sing for you?”
Gu Yunyue stared at her intently. “Let me kiss you, okay?”
“Just once.”
