Picked Up an Amnesiac Little Mermaid - Chapter 3
Yu Huai nodded blankly, “I was the one singing. Did it sound nice?”
Gu Yunyue sat by the girl’s bedside with mixed emotions. Outside, a violent storm raged with surging waves, and lightning could be seen streaking through the dark clouds.
Yu Huai’s pale blue hair nearly blended into the darkness outside, as if such a delicate girl truly belonged to the tempest beyond.
Puzzled, Yu Huai gazed at the human she had rescued and reached out to pinch Gu Yunyue’s cheek.
“Are you afraid of rainy days?”
Humans were so fragile.
Yu Huai hugged Gu Yunyue. “There, there, don’t be scared. How about sleeping with me tonight?”
The little fish didn’t know how else to comfort such a fragile human. After all, humans were delicate creatures who bruised so easily.
Gu Yunyue watched as the girl shifted to make room on the bed.
The little fish’s eyes seemed to say, Go on, lie down already.
Gu Yunyue said, “…I’m not scared.”
Though her words denied it, her body betrayed her as she obediently lay on her side, her senses filled with the girl’s sweet, intoxicating fragrance.
The little fish burrowed deeper under the covers, blinking her bright eyes. “I’m happy to warm Miss Gu’s bed.”
What ill intentions could a fish possibly have? She just liked the coolness of a human’s body temperature.
Gu Yunyue stiffened. “This isn’t bed-warming.”
Yu Huai snuggled firmly into the human’s embrace. “Yes, it is.”
What else could it be called if not bed-warming when two people shared a bed?
Gu Yunyue said, “…”
Her twenty-plus years of virtue were about to be ruined.
…
The next morning.
Gu Yunyue hadn’t slept so soundly in years. Daylight already streamed in, and the storm outside had calmed. The girl in bed lay with her soft belly exposed, her breathing light, her lashes fluttering faintly.
Pale blue strands intertwined with Gu Yunyue’s black hair.
So entwined it was hard to tell where one ended and the other began.
As the woman beside her stirred, Yu Huai slowly woke, her almond-shaped eyes hazy with sleep.
She smiled and pulled Gu Yunyue closer, nuzzling against her shoulder affectionately.
“Now we’ve slept together. Was Miss Gu satisfied?”
Gu Yunyue’s relaxed expression immediately tensed. “Don’t say things that could be misunderstood.”
Yu Huai blinked. “Did I fail to satisfy Miss Gu?”
She couldn’t return to the sea, nor was she used to walking on legs. This fish was pitiful indeed.
Gu Yunyue pinched the bridge of her nose. “I’m getting up. My assistant will bring breakfast to your bedside—no more nonsense.”
At the mention of food, Yu Huai’s eyes lit up. “For breakfast, I’d like red king crab and coconut crab. If possible, a shark would be even better.”
Gu Yunyue: “…”
Through gritted teeth, Gu Yunyue replied, “Fine. I’ll have it prepared.”
Gu Yunyue had a light congee for breakfast and brewed herself a cup of coffee. Over her silk gown, she draped a sheer outer robe that accentuated the graceful lines of her shoulders and neck. The delicate fabric clung to her shoulder blades, enhancing her ethereal elegance with a touch of regal poise.
Her chief assistant approached. “President Gu, representatives from the Qiao Group are waiting outside. They’ve come early to personally apologize.”
Gu Yunyue paused mid-stir with her spoon. “Let them in.”
Moments later, several men with ingratiating smiles hurried in. “We deeply regret the fright you experienced the other day, President Gu. It was our oversight at Qiao Group, and we’ve come to make amends.”
The men kept their heads bowed, not daring to look up at the woman whose languid posture exuded effortless grace.
Gu Yunyue took a delicate sip of her coffee. “The sea is unpredictable. No one can say for certain what will happen. It’s fortunate there were no casualties.”
Her cold gaze swept over the plump, well-fed businessmen before her, who nodded obsequiously in agreement.
“President Gu is absolutely right. For this collaboration, the Qiao Group is willing to concede an additional five percent as a gesture to ease your concerns.”
Gu Yunyue remained indifferent. “Ten percent.”
“Anything less, and the Gu Group will not consider this partnership.”
The Qiao Group representatives exchanged uneasy glances, the man at the front sweating profusely.
After a moment’s hesitation, he relented. “Very well. We’ll proceed exactly as President Gu wishes.”
No sooner had they spoken than a procession of servers entered, carrying steaming red king crabs and snow crabs, pushing open a tightly shut door. The air filled with the rich aroma of freshly steamed seafood.
Most startling of all was the man at the rear, hauling a live shark straight from the fishery.
As the door swung open, a slender young woman came into view, seated in a wheelchair. Her long, ice-blue hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing a face as pale and luminous as ivory. The frailty of her immobile legs only accentuated her delicate, pitiable beauty.
She was breathtaking!
Could this be the treasured lover President Gu had been hiding away?
At the mention of Yu Huai, Gu Yunyue’s lips curled slightly. “I must commend you for finding her. I’ve never kept any lovers before—today is an exception.”
A helpless girl who had inexplicably washed ashore, unable to walk, clinging to her from the moment she awoke…
To Gu Yunyue, it was nothing more than a well-calculated ploy by the businessmen.
The Qiao Group representatives: “…?”
Gu Yunyue frowned. “Is there a problem with Yu Huai?”
The Qiao Group responded, “Huh?”
They hadn’t sent her!
How could they possibly have found someone so stunning?
Utterly bewildered, they stared at each other, confusion and shock mirrored in their eyes.
Who was Yu Huai?
Gu Yunyue arched a brow. “She wasn’t sent by you?”
The Qiao Group shook their heads frantically. “No! We’ve all heard of President Gu’s impeccable reputation—we wouldn’t dare foist anyone on you!”
Gu Yunyue muttered, “…Tch.”
“Understood. You may leave now.”
The Qiao Group scurried out, racking their brains but failing to recall who Yu Huai could possibly be.
Gu Yunyue glanced at the closed door, then downed the rest of her coffee in one gulp.
So… who was Yu Huai?
Just a pitiful castaway?
Or an undocumented mystery?
……
Yu Huai feasted heartily, stopping only when she was halfway full. Under the horrified gazes of the hotel staff, she let out a dainty burp.
The hotel manager asked, “Are you satisfied, miss?”
Yu Huai had been about to say she wasn’t done, but seeing their bulging eyes, she tactfully replied, “The food was delicious. Truly whets a fish’s—ah, I mean, a person’s appetite.”
The hotel manager exhaled in relief. “Your satisfaction is our greatest honor.”
As he turned to leave, a wistful sigh drifted from the room.
“The dishes were tasty… just a bit lacking in quantity.”
The hotel manager fell silent.
Should I offer myself as a snack to fill the gaps between your teeth?
The chief assistant knocked and entered. “Miss, the family doctor has arrived to examine your legs.”
Yu Huai maneuvered her wheelchair out of the room—and there, bathed in the morning light, her hair shimmering like gold, stood President Gu.
Standing beside President Gu was a doctor in a white coat, followed by several nurses carrying medical cases.
The moment Yu Huai saw the white coat, she instinctively shrank back in fear. “I don’t want a shot, I’m scared.”
No fish should have to endure such torment.
Yu Huai recalled the thick, sharp needles at the Mermaid Breeding Center—terrifying enough to scare a fish to death.
Gu Yunyue soothed her, “No shots, don’t be afraid.”
If Yu Huai had a tail right now, her scales would be bristling. She eyed the dreaded white coat warily.
The doctor smiled gently and knelt down, lifting the hem of Yu Huai’s skirt to examine the soft muscles of her legs, kneading them carefully.
Gu Yunyue watched intently from the side.
The doctor’s expression shifted from calm to grave, then to something unreadable, casting a heavy atmosphere over the room.
Gu Yunyue explained, “When I found Yu Huai on the beach, she had severe memory loss and couldn’t stand due to weakness in her legs.”
She suspected Yu Huai had suffered some form of abuse.
The doctor could only gesture at Gu Yunyue. “Miss, do you know her?”
He wanted to test Yu Huai’s basic cognitive functions.
Yu Huai nodded. “I know her. I slept with her last night.”
The doctor asked, “?”
The assistant exclaimed, “!”
Holy sh1t, what did I just hear?!
President Gu is truly inhuman—how could she take advantage of such a fragile girl?!
Gu Yunyue said, “…We slept in the same bed. Nothing else happened.”
Yu Huai blinked innocently. “Probably.”
She looked at Gu Yunyue with a hint of pity. This human had slept beside a mermaid without even touching her tail—what a loss.
Still stunned, the doctor mouthed silently, “Do you need legal assistance, miss?”
Yu Huai shook her head. “No? She feeds me. She’s really nice.”
The doctor remained speechless.
The assistant couldn’t bear to watch anymore.
Gu Yunyue said, “.”
To bolster her credibility, Yu Huai added, “She’s never let me go hungry. I’ve been eating really well.”
Gu Yunyue said, “.” Please shut up.
The doctor quietly scribbled in the medical record, Basic cognitive level requires further evaluation.
Standing up, the doctor addressed Gu Yunyue. “Miss Yu Huai’s leg bones show no abnormalities. Her inability to stand may stem from psychological factors or simply a lack of muscle strength due to never having walked before.”
He gave Gu Yunyue a reproachful look. “A patient like Yu Huai requires patience and care. President Gu, please provide her with a quiet, nurturing environment for recovery.”
Yu Huai was intellectually impaired and physically disabled—she’d be bullied even in a care facility.
An adult yet unfit for an orphanage.
Keeping her with Gu Yunyue was the only viable solution.
Rubbing her temples, Gu Yunyue sighed, exhausted. “Yu Huai, would you like to come back to City C with me?”
Come with me, sing for me every day, and I’ll give you the best life has to offer.
Yu Huai tilted her head and delivered a bombshell: “Will you sleep with me every night?”
