- Picked Up an E on the Roadside! I Totally Fell for Him After Our Contract Marriage
- Chapter 3 - Pet Hospital
The car hadn’t been on the road for long when Shi Jing received a message from Wei Qinan.
He sent over a class schedule with a note: This is my timetable. Aside from classes and unexpected situations, I’m free most of the time.
Wei Qinan: (wink.jpg)
Wei Qinan was a computer science major, and while Shi Jing could read the Chinese on the schedule, he didn’t fully grasp the specifics.
Squinting slightly, Shi Jing skimmed through it and replied with a simple “1.”
Setting his phone aside, he turned to Ye Li and said, “Later, I’ll add you on WeChat and introduce you to Wei Qinan. You can pick him up and bring him to my place later.”
Recalling the schedule, he noted that Wei Qinan, despite being a third-year student, still had early morning classes every day. Feeling a pang of sympathy, he added, “Take him to Xinluo instead.”
Xinluo Apartments was a graduation gift from Shi Jing’s Omega father—a spacious penthouse in the city center, conveniently located near Ning University with excellent access to everywhere.
Ye Li remembered the tall, well-built college student from earlier. Having worked with Shi Jing for years, he’d never seen him in a relationship and couldn’t quite gauge his attitude toward Wei Qinan.
Suppressing his curiosity, he simply replied, “Got it.”
The Shi family was in the import-export business, and the patriarch had hoped Shi Jing would take over. But the young master had no interest in commerce and instead invested in a pet hospital after graduation.
When Shi Jing arrived, the clinic was packed with people, all crowded near the hallway, craning their necks to see what was happening.
The receptionist was trying her best to usher them back to their seats.
Tall and long-legged, Shi Jing pushed through the crowd to ask what was going on, only to hear the sound of something shattering inside the examination room.
Frowning, he caught snippets of the surrounding chatter.
“Did something get smashed?!”
“What’s going on in there? Are they fighting?”
“No idea. That guy didn’t even bring a pet—looks pretty tough.”
“…Could this be a medical dispute?”
Only one receptionist was on duty today. Spotting Shi Jing, her eyes lit up as if she’d seen a savior. “Boss!”
A middle-aged woman holding a poodle was momentarily distracted by Shi Jing’s striking looks. “You’re the owner of this place?”
Shi Jing glanced down. “Yeah.”
“Well, hurry inside! They’re arguing in there!”
Shi Jing thought to himself: I was about to go in until you stopped me.
Aloud, he said, “Please, everyone, return to your seats. Blocking the hallway disrupts others. Xiao Qin, keep calling numbers as usual. I’ll handle this.”
His authoritative tone made most of the onlookers disperse, though their curiosity lingered.
The receptionist nodded quickly. “Got it.”
As soon as Shi Jing pushed open the door to the private examination room, he saw Zhong Yu’s shattered glass cup—the one he used for steeping goji berries—scattered across the floor. A thirty-something Alpha was pointing at Zhong Yu’s face, shouting, “You scam artists! You’ll get what’s coming to you!”
Beside him stood a woman of similar age, her face streaked with tears, sobbing uncontrollably.
Zhong Yu’s assistant repeated helplessly, “Sir, your cat was already—”
BANG!
The man slammed his palm onto the table with a deafening crash.
“Who the hell asked you?! Shut your damn mouth!”
As these words were spoken, a foul stench instantly filled the entire room.
It smelled like rotten salted fish gone bad.
It was this man’s Alpha pheromones.
Shi Jing’s expression darkened immediately.
The assistant was an Omega. An Alpha’s pheromones could affect her, even triggering her estrus cycle.
Zhong Yu’s face changed drastically: “What the hell? How can you just release pheromones indoors like this?! Don’t you know that’s illegal? My assistant is an Omega!”
The man looked at the assistant with disdain, his eyes full of contempt: “An Omega like you should be at home having babies instead of working out here. What, trying to seduce Alphas?”
The assistant’s face turned pale. She wanted to say something, but Zhong Yu cut her off first.
“Are you out of your mind?!” Zhong Yu was so angry his bl00d boiled, only then noticing Shi Jing standing at the door. He took a deep breath, suppressing his rage: “Shi Jing, this guy—”
“Have your assistant leave first.”
As he spoke, Shi Jing grabbed the woman’s wrist and pushed her out of the room.
After locking the door, he asked coldly: “What’s going on?”
His pupils were dark, his stature tall even among Alphas, and his very presence exuded an innate, oppressive aura of authority.
Zhong Yu was Shi Jing’s good friend, also an Alpha, a few years older than him.
An excellent veterinarian who could treat any animal, grateful pet owners would line up from the hospital entrance to the moon to thank him. In all his years of practice, this was the first time he’d encountered someone so unreasonable.
Just as Zhong Yu was about to explain, the man spoke first: “Who the fvck are you?”
“I’m the owner here,” Shi Jing replied.
“Owner? Hah, perfect. My cat died, and your doctor here couldn’t save it, always dodging responsibility! Is this the low professional standard of your hospital’s vets? He has to give me an explanation today! The hospital must compensate me! Damn animal doctors.”
Shi Jing’s expression turned terrifyingly cold: “If you can’t speak to me calmly, we’ll continue this discussion at the police station.”
“You threatening me?!” The man was intimidated by his presence but refused to back down verbally. “Fine, you’re tough, real tough.”
“Shut your filthy mouth, and retract your pheromones.” Shi Jing turned to Zhong Yu. “What happened?”
Zhong Yu was thoroughly annoyed by both of them, but thinking of the cat, his tone softened: “Emergency case two days ago, fell from the 14th floor. We couldn’t save it.”
Some indoor cats kept in high-rises don’t understand the dangers outside windows. Their hospital regularly received cases of cats falling from heights. The lucky ones might still be breathing, but most were beyond help when they arrived.
Shi Jing frowned slightly: “I’m sorry for your loss. But what exactly are you demanding an explanation from my doctor for?”
The man flew into a rage, shouting furiously: “You fucking killed my cat and still ask why?! If you can’t even save a cat, why keep this hospital open? Just shut it down!”
“This was a pedigree cat, imported from abroad with royal bloodlines—the kind you’ll never see in your lifetime! Here’s the deal: compensate me 200,000 yuan, and I won’t make this public.”
The woman beside him cried in agreement, “Yes, we spent 150,000 to have Xiao Ban flown back from abroad. Including the care expenses, 200,000 isn’t too much. It’s only been a few months… how could this happen…”
Zhong Yu closed his eyes briefly. “I’ve explained to you many times—we did everything we could to save him. This lady witnessed the entire process. When Xiao Ban was brought in, he already had no pulse or breathing. We tried for a long time before declaring his death. Afterward, we even provided contacts for funeral arrangements.”
“Bullshit! He was alive when we brought him in—his eyes were open! You’re just incompetent! This hospital is fucking garbage, can’t even treat a damn cat properly!”
As he spoke, he suddenly raised his arm and swung at Zhong Yu’s face!
