- Picked Up an E on the Roadside! I Totally Fell for Him After Our Contract Marriage
- Chapter 4 - You've Been Marked by an Enigma
The moment the fist came flying, Shi Jing seized the man’s wrist and pinned it against the table. Whatever trace of pity he had felt earlier vanished instantly.
With one hand restrained, the man immediately swung his other fist.
Shi Jing dodged effortlessly and executed a flawless shoulder throw, slamming the man onto the floor.
“Fvck you, let me go!” the man thrashed wildly.
“Keep cursing like that, and I’ll make sure you never speak again. Got a mouth full of filth, huh?” Shi Jing tightened his grip on the man’s joints, pressing a knee into his back as he turned to Zhong Yu. “Call the police.”
Realizing he couldn’t break free, the man spewed a torrent of vulgarities, cursing Shi Jing and Zhong Yu’s ancestors eighteen generations back. “You can’t even treat a cat properly and now you’re assaulting people?! Just wait—I’ll expose you! Black-hearted hospital! I swear I’ll shut this place down!”
“Shut your mouth!” Shi Jing increased the pressure.
At the same time, a floral scent flooded the room, overpowering the lingering pheromones.
Shi Jing cursed under his breath. The stench of that rotten, salted-fish pheromone had been nauseating him from the start.
Alpha pheromones could suppress one another, and Shi Jing’s higher rank forced the man into instinctive submission.
But mixed within Shi Jing’s scent was another’s pheromones.
“…” Zhong Yu, having just finished his call to the police, shot him a puzzled look.
The officers arrived swiftly.
With a cold expression, Shi Jing handed the troublemaker over and briefly explained the situation.
“Also, he released high-concentration Alpha pheromones in a public space, affecting one of our Omega assistants. Please handle that.” Shi Jing turned to the front desk. “Where’s Xiao Jiu?”
“She’s resting in the lounge with Dr. Liu’s assistant.”
“Tell her to go to the hospital if she feels unwell. If the checkup shows any issues, let me know—I’ll sue this bastard into the ground.”
The receptionist nodded vigorously. “I’ll tell her right away.”
The biological disparity between Alphas and Omegas was already stark, and Shi Jing despised scum who abused their pheromones to bully others.
After giving a few more instructions, Shi Jing headed to the police station with Zhong Yu.
The man continued his tirade in the car, though his volume dropped slightly after a warning. Still, the curses didn’t stop.
But once they actually entered the station, he deflated like a punctured balloon, all fight gone.
The woman beside him, who had been defiant earlier, was now gasping for breath, tearfully pleading for leniency.
Shi Jing remained indifferent, tuning her out.
He understood the grief of losing a pet, but releasing pheromones in public? Unacceptable.
Even dried salted fish would find this idiot’s stench repulsive—how dare he discriminate against Omegas?
Zhong Yu felt the same.
Having worked at Shi Jing’s animal hospital for over a year, he’d dealt with plenty of emotional pet owners—but never one this unhinged.
After taking their statements, the officer asked, “What’s your stance on this?”
Shi Jing replied, “The hospital won’t press charges, but we won’t settle privately for the pheromone release.”
Some people only learned their lesson after spending time behind bars.
If his pheromones had triggered Zhong Yu’s assistant into an involuntary heat, current Alpha-Omega laws could land him in jail for months.
“Also,” Shi Jing added, “You’ll need to compensate for Dr. Zhong’s cup. It was custom-designed by a professional designer, the only one of its kind in the world—128,000 yuan. The goji berries in the cup cost five yuan.”
Zhong Yu: “…I put six yuan’s worth in there.”
Shi Jing said seriously, “128,006 yuan then.”
The woman’s face turned pale. “It’s just a cup, how could it be worth that much?”
“I have the receipt. I’ll submit it as evidence to the police later.”
The woman made a last-ditch effort: “Please…we admit we were wrong. I’ll talk to him properly and apologize to your hospital assistant too. We accept a few days in detention, but this money really…”
The officer frowned disapprovingly. “What do you mean you ‘accept’ detention? Your husband’s behavior constitutes harassment, understand?!”
“I…”
As she spoke, she suddenly grabbed Shi Jing’s sleeve, as if about to kneel.
Shi Jing remained unmoved, looking down coldly as she performed.
Sure enough, she only half-knelt before awkwardly standing back up when no one came to help her.
“What do you want then? We definitely can’t pay 120,000 yuan! And you’ve already used the cup—how could it still be worth that much? This is extortion! My family isn’t to be trifled with either, I’ll get a lawyer—”
Shi Jing nearly laughed.
Having encountered all sorts of people, he could instantly recognize those with ulterior motives, always scheming against others.
Disgusted, he cut her off: “No negotiations. The cup was just delivered to Zhong Yu’s home yesterday. If you want to involve lawyers, we’ll see you in court. You must take responsibility for your actions—did you think this was some childish game?”
The woman sobbed, “But I…I have an Omega hormone disorder. The medical bills every month are already—”
Shi Jing turned directly to the police: “Please proceed normally with the procedures. Our legal team will follow up.”
After speaking briefly with the officers, Shi Jing and Zhong Yu left the station.
Zhong Yu pinched the bridge of his nose. “Good thing you came. It would’ve been messy otherwise.”
Though Zhong Yu was also an Alpha, there were differences between individuals. Moreover, as a doctor, it wouldn’t have been appropriate for him to physically confront the man.
“But are you really making them pay the full amount? Judging by that woman’s reaction, they might genuinely not afford it—though she and her husband are indeed despicable.”
Walking side by side and ignoring an Omega trying to ask for his WeChat, Shi Jing replied, “Can’t afford it? They were quite bold demanding 200,000 from us.”
He’d noticed—their clothes were niche foreign luxury brands, not something bought for mere hundreds. This family wasn’t poor; making them pay would teach them a lesson.
Shi Jing said matter-of-factly, “They should be grateful it’s only 120,000.”
Zhong Yu nodded thoughtfully. “Still, what’s her deal? Her husband thinks Omegas should just stay home breeding, yet she still won’t divorce him?”
Shi Jing had no interest in others’ domestic affairs: “Respect and best wishes.”
He added, “But we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg. Now that his true colors have emerged, perhaps she’ll reconsider eventually.”
Getting rid of a toxic person might just lead to a brand-new life.
Zhong Yu gave an approving smile and nudged Shi Jing with his elbow. “But hey, buddy, I’ve been meaning to ask—why do you have someone else’s scent on you?”
As he spoke, Zhong Yu brushed aside Shi Jing’s hair. “Whoa, you’ve even got a gland patch on.”
Shi Jing shuddered at the touch. “Stop poking around.”
When he had restrained the man earlier, he had deliberately released his own pheromones. That area had recently been treated by Wei Qinan, so it was no surprise traces of his scent lingered.
Though Zhong Yu was now a veterinarian, he had studied glandular medicine in college.
“You’ve been marked by an Enigma,” Zhong Yu concluded quickly.
