- Chapter 20 - Interference
The distance between them was too close. Yun Shu couldn’t advance, nor could she retreat.
Pressed tightly against the chair back, she asked again, “You won’t resist no matter what I do?”
Resist?
Xie Tang’s eyes deepened, a hint of anticipation flickering within them.
She nodded. “Mm.”
Xie Tang didn’t mind Yun Shu’s touch. Besides, she needed physical contact to confirm certain things.
Their faces were so close that another inch would bring their noses brushing, their breaths mingling.
Xie Tang remained still, quietly waiting for Yun Shu’s next move.
Yun Shu exhaled in relief and made her final request: “Then I’m helping you move today!”
“…?”
Xie Tang stared blankly for a moment, waiting for more. When no further explanation came, she couldn’t help but ask, “That’s all?”
Yun Shu shook her head mysteriously. “Of course not.”
She planned to clean Xie Tang’s room, buy her lots of delicious food, and even get her some pretty clothes!
In the past, Xie Tang would have likely objected, but today was different.
Xie Tang had said she would let Yun Shu do as she pleased!
Yun Shu’s heart fluttered at the thought of Xie Tang wearing all sorts of beautiful outfits.
Her mind raced with plans for moving Xie Tang into her new dorm and starting a fresh life. “I remember the dorm application can be approved in just one day. Have you checked the school system for any updates?”
Yun Shu was genuinely concerned, but for some reason, Xie Tang’s tone had become noticeably distant. “It’s approved. Room 307 in Building A.”
As soon as Yun Shu heard the room number, she knew Yun Zhuxi must have arranged it for her.
She made an immediate decision. “Let’s move right now! It’s only 4 PM—we should be able to finish quickly!”
Xie Tang subtly stepped back.
She hadn’t expected Yun Shu to make such a request.
Why isn’t Yun Shu staring at my face today?
Yun Shu’s efficiency when it came to Xie Tang was remarkable.
She immediately organized everything, buying only the best of everything.
By the time they arrived at the dorm, it was already overflowing with daily necessities.
Yun Shu gestured for Xie Tang to sit in a nearby chair. “You must be exhausted from teaching me all day. Just relax—I’ll handle everything.”
Before Xie Tang could respond, Yun Shu was already spinning around like a top, busying herself with unpacking.
Xie Tang sighed helplessly.
It’s my move, but Yun Shu seems more invested than I am.
Xie Tang had previously chosen not to live on campus because she worried about disturbing her roommates.
They were just casual acquaintances, and no one was obligated to tolerate her returning late at night every day.
Even though living in the dorms was the most cost-effective option, Xie Tang never applied.
Who could have predicted that fate would bring her back to campus now?
This arrangement would indeed save Xie Tang a significant amount of time.
Moreover, the dorm room was fully equipped, and the other bed was vacant, making it her private living space for the time being.
By the time everything was settled, it was already 8 PM.
Yun Shu slumped in her chair, took a sip of the milk tea Xie Tang had brought her, and swung her legs contentedly.
“Xie Tang,” she said, her voice sweet and bubbly, likely from the milk tea. “Rest for a bit. We’ll go get dinner later.”
Xie Tang glanced at Yun Shu, who seemed so delighted even by a simple sweet drink, and her voice softened unconsciously. “What do you want to eat?”
Yun Shu blinked at her. “Your noodles.”
Xie Tang’s lips curved into a smile. She hadn’t expected Yun Shu’s wish to be so simple.
Yun Shu had clearly planned ahead, as she had brought a small pot and two sets of bowls and chopsticks.
She had even prepared her own portion, showing remarkable initiative.
Xie Tang had originally intended to treat Yun Shu to dinner outside, but now they were inexplicably cooking noodles in the dorm room.
She tilted her head to look at Yun Shu, who was sitting at the table playing on her phone. A sudden warmth stirred in her heart, an inexplicable sense of home.
Xie Tang felt that indescribable sensation rising again from her heart—a mix of sourness, fullness, and an inexplicable joy.
Yun Shu was busy picking out clothes for Xie Tang. Xie Tang’s previous wardrobe had been far too simple; even the few items she owned had been washed until they were faded and worn.
I’m going to buy Xie Tang some nice things, Yun Shu thought. After all the bad deeds the Original Host committed, what’s wrong with spending some of her money?
Now that they were out of the dorm, they could store things however they liked without worrying about roommates. Xie Tang could live here comfortably for years.
Yun Shu placed a large online order and even had a courier deliver a huge pile of clothes from a boutique in the city center. Only after ensuring Xie Tang wouldn’t lack for anything did Yun Shu finally stop shopping.
Just then, Xie Tang brought over a bowl of noodles.
Yun Shu immediately put down her phone, her nose twitching wildly as she gazed at the noodles with eager anticipation.
“So eager to eat?” Xie Tang asked with a gentle smile.
Yun Shu swallowed involuntarily, then huffed lightly. “I just want something light right now. Is that so wrong?”
Xie Tang didn’t say anything, but a faint sourness rose in her heart.
To be this happy over a simple bowl of clear broth noodles… That’s what life should be.
Too bad I don’t have the financial means to live like that right now.
Xie Tang can’t afford to live like that.
“Come on, I’ll make you something else to eat.”
Yun Shu’s eyes lit up, and she swung her legs excitedly. “Something else! Xie Tang, you can’t forget!”
Xie Tang suppressed the smile in her eyes, her voice deepening. “I won’t forget.”
After finishing the meal, Xie Tang was washing dishes in the sink when she saw Yun Shu glance at her phone, then immediately open the door and dash out.
She never seems to get tired.
Inside Yun Shu’s heart, a little figure was jumping for joy. She couldn’t wait to see Xie Tang wearing those beautiful clothes.
As she waited by the door, she completely failed to notice an unwelcome guest approaching.
The girl had likely just returned from a bar, reeking of alcohol.
She had been sitting in the communal area downstairs, but when she spotted Yun Shu, she immediately stood up and walked over.
“Yun Shu, I’m drunk. Could you help me back to my dorm?”
Her voice was sweet and cloying as she leaned closer to Yun Shu.
Yun Shu hadn’t yet learned to distinguish between the scent of pheromones and the simple fragrance of fruit. It wasn’t until she unconsciously sniffed twice that she realized the girl before her was an Omega—and an Omega in heat.
Panic flashed across Yun Shu’s face as she shoved the girl away. The girl, unable to brace herself, stumbled and fell heavily to the floor. Her snow-white thigh struck the smooth surface, immediately breaking the skin and sending bl00d trickling down her leg.
Even an Omega’s bl00d carried the scent of pheromones.
At that moment, Yun Shu noticed her own breathing growing rapid.
She desperately tried to hold her breath, but it was futile.
The Omega, clearly losing her rationality, pressed forward again, her cheeks flushed crimson.
The dorm room was now saturated with the scent of her pheromones.
“Auntie! Auntie!”
Yun Shu fought against the surging tide within her, pinching her thigh hard to stay conscious as she stumbled to the first-floor management office.
“A girl’s Heat Period has started,” she gasped.
The dorm auntie was a Beta.
Startled by the scene, she immediately and expertly administered an inhibitor shot to the Omega.
Yun Shu forced herself to endure until the delivery girl arrived.
Her face flushed an unnatural red as she accepted the large bag of clothes, murmuring, “Thank you.”
The delivery girl looked concerned. “Are you okay?”
Yun Shu shook her head. “Thank you, I’m fine.”
Clutching the bag, she staggered to Xie Tang’s door.
Yun Shu closed her eyes and shook her head, desperately trying to regain her composure.
This sensation was still too unfamiliar. How could she suppress the pheromone scent?
It belatedly dawned on Yun Shu that her Heat Period might have begun.
This will scare Xie Tang, she thought.
Yun Shu abandoned the chance to open the door. She placed the items on the ground, turned, and stumbled away.
She couldn’t go inside.
She would definitely hurt Xie Tang right now.
She had to go back.
She couldn’t stay here.
Inside, Xie Tang was scrolling through a forum post on how to act like a gentle older sister when she suddenly received a message from Yun Shu.
“Xie Tang, I had to leave early. There are some clothes outside the door—remember to bring them in.”
Xie Tang frowned slightly.
This didn’t sound like something Yun Shu would say.
Yun Shu’s usual style was lively, and she often added “ya” to her sentences. But today’s message felt unusually cold.
Xie Tang’s brow furrowed. Her intuition told her something was wrong.
She got up and went to the door, where a small mountain of clothes was piled up.
As Xie Tang carried them inside, she paused in surprise.
Pretty clothes was something Yun Shu often teased her with.
“Xie Tang, I bought you some pretty clothes. Want to try them on for me?”
But the pitiful scraps of fabric in her hands barely qualified as clothes.
These bags, however, were filled with all sorts of conservative yet stylish outfits.
This was Yun Shu’s light.
That guy definitely wasn’t the type to just toss his clothes by the door and leave. If something urgent had come up, what could it be? Could she help?
Xie Tang realized she had so little to offer.
When Yun Shu truly needed her, would she even have anything worthwhile to give?
As she walked, Xie Tang called Yun Shu repeatedly, but no one answered.
When she reached the first floor, she overheard the dormitory supervisor grumbling, “These students are going out drinking even though their heat cycles are almost here, and they didn’t even bring their suppressants. No sense of safety at all. Sigh.”
Xie Tang sighed heavily.
After adulthood, an Omega’s heat cycles become increasingly regular. Most choose to carry suppressants or simply stay indoors during those few days.
Someone who knowingly went to a mixed and chaotic bar right before their heat cycle, as that Omega had done, clearly didn’t take these precautions seriously.
If they encountered the wrong person and were forcibly marked, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Xie Tang pursed her lips. The lingering pheromone scent still hung in the air, a testament to how potent the Omega’s pheromones had been.
Yet this pheromone felt strangely familiar to Xie Tang.
Coupled with Yun Shu’s earlier cold tone, the suspicion in Xie Tang’s heart grew clearer.
I have to find her.
I need to find Yun Shu as soon as possible.
But Xie Tang had no idea where Yun Shu had gone.
She scanned the vast campus, her usually sharp mind—capable of solving even the most complex problems with ease—now utterly blank.
Xie Tang finally understood why Yun Shu had been so anxious when she couldn’t find her that day.
She stared at the roads stretching in all directions, her mind completely frozen.
She had no idea which path Yun Shu might have taken, or where she might have gone.
If only she had a tracker, I could pinpoint her exact location.
Yun Shu had left in such a hurry; it was likely she had been drawn into her Heat Period by the pheromones.
Where would she go?
She wasn’t the type to make people worry, so she wouldn’t have gone home.
But in such a short time, where could she have gone?
“There was an Alpha on Moral Education Road just now who couldn’t even control their pheromones,” a passerby complained. “They’re college students—how can they be so uncivilized?”
Xie Tang’s eyes sharpened. She immediately sprinted in the direction they had indicated.
