- Quick Transmigration: God of Slaughter? But He Calls Me Baby!
- Chapter 10 - Will Uncle Gu Come Save Us?
Qianzhou listened intently.
“He’s always fierce,” Qianzhou said.
Jiang En immediately refuted, “He’s not!”
He continued, “That day I was outside. Through the window, I saw Uncle Gu’s assistant was there too.”
“I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but the assistant looked really scared.”
If the Gu Sheng from that time was the same as the one Qianzhou saw last night… anyone standing in front of him would feel terrified.
“Then did you go in to see him afterward?” Qianzhou asked.
Jiang En shook his head. “No.”
A thought gradually became clear in Qianzhou’s mind—
If he really waited until next Thursday, there was no guarantee he’d even see last night’s “Gu Sheng.”
That way, the system bug still couldn’t be fixed.
And he still wouldn’t be able to leave this little world.
Qianzhou pressed a hand over his eyes, feeling like everything had gone back to square one.
At that moment, Jiang En pressed himself fully against him.
Only then did Qianzhou realize he was cold.
“Qianzhou… why did you close the door?”
Jiang En was shivering and clutching tightly at Qianzhou’s arm.
“I… I didn’t close it.” Qianzhou sneezed.
The freezer door was sealed tight, the sliding iron door had shut without making much noise—neither of them had noticed.
Qianzhou lowered his head to search his pockets for his phone, checking every one.
His hands froze mid-motion.
He remembered he had left his phone on the counter when he was fixing the ice pack earlier.
Qianzhou pointed to Jiang En’s pocket. “It’s fine, don’t be scared. Use your phone to call someone to open the door.”
Jiang En’s eyes turned red, his voice almost crying.
“I left it in the taxi…”
As he spoke, a puff of white mist came out of his mouth.
When the door wasn’t shut, the temperature here was only a little lower than outside.
But now the cold was dropping bit by bit.
Qianzhou had seen zombie sieges and demon lords descend; at this moment he calmly surveyed his surroundings.
Cold lighting above. Behind them were several rows of vegetable racks.
The real frozen goods were stored in big freezers not far away.
Jiang En had completely lost his composure, clinging to Qianzhou and sobbing.
“I’m so cold…”
He sniffled, looking at Qianzhou’s face, which had also turned pale from the cold.
“Come on, let’s go to a spot without air vents. It’s too close to the freezers here.” Qianzhou tugged him further inside.
Jiang En used his free hand to wipe his tears.
Looking at Qianzhou’s back, he said, “How come you’re not scared at all?”
Qianzhou pulled him down into the corner farthest from the vent. “See, there’s no frost here except for gaps near the freezers. It won’t kill us.”
He pushed away a bunch of spinach leaves brushing against his face. “It’s fine.”
Jiang En, unusually quiet, curled up and leaned tightly against him.
“Will Uncle Gu come save us?”
“He… is busy today. Probably the kitchen staff will find us first.”
Jiang En scooted a little closer. Qianzhou’s gaze lingered on the racks full of vegetables, dazing for a moment.
It was so cold he wanted to sleep.
If the system weren’t bugged, he could’ve contacted outsiders directly through 052.
At the very least, he could’ve exchanged points for warm clothes in the system’s shop.
But here, the supposedly omnipotent system was completely useless.
Qianzhou hugged his knees. Suddenly, he felt weight on his shoulder.
Jiang En’s lips were pale, his body slumping against Qianzhou, eyes half-lidded as if he might drift off.
Qianzhou nudged him and quickly found a topic to keep him awake.
“Why do you like Gu Sheng?”
Jiang En’s eyes opened wide again. “Uncle Gu is super amazing.”
It was like every time Gu Sheng’s name came up, he instantly grew spirited.
“After he took over the company, he did even better than my brother. Otherwise, your company wouldn’t even be on the list before!”
“If only I were you, I could live with him.”
Jiang En lowered his head in frustration. “But my brother won’t let me near him.”
Qianzhou realized very directly just how much Jiang En liked Gu Sheng.
He looked into Jiang En’s eyes. “But if you found out Gu Sheng isn’t actually what you imagine, what would you do?”
Jiang En had heard things like this more than once.
He stared at Qianzhou quietly for a while, then lowered his head.
In a small voice, he muttered:
“…I don’t want to talk to you anymore.”
With that, he scooted further away, no longer touching him.
Qianzhou felt like maybe this time some of it had sunk in—though Jiang En couldn’t accept it.
The vent kept blowing cold air.
Behind them sat a mushroom box covered with a brown blanket.
The blanket was small, just enough to cover the box. Qianzhou pulled the cleaner side over Jiang En.
Jiang En lifted his head and saw Qianzhou had only given him a corner.
That wouldn’t help much at all.
Jiang En begrudgingly scooted back, pressing himself against Qianzhou again, splitting the blanket in half with him.
Turning his head aside, he muttered, “Y-you’re not that annoying.”
“Oh.” Qianzhou responded casually.
The blanket smelled strongly of fungus, with an earthy scent too.
Jiang En wrinkled his nose in disgust, pinching it shut.
After a while, he asked softly:
“Does Uncle Gu treat you badly?”
Qianzhou opened his mouth. “…Hard to say.”
He bullied him a lot, but hadn’t truly abused him.
“He’s got a bad temper, always snapping at me,” Qianzhou said.
Jiang En was quiet for a while. “My brother always snaps at me too. He won’t let me drink, and he’s always scolding Uncle Gu.”
“Oh right, my brother’s been practicing boxing lately. You, you…”
Qianzhou perked up a bit. “He wants to beat up Gu Sheng?”
Jiang En shouted, “You better tell Uncle Gu to be careful!”
“Cough, cough… I will.” Qianzhou’s eyes drifted upward.
They had been in the freezer for a long time now, the two pressed together for warmth.
Like two white foxes in the snow, fluffy and huddled.
Thanks to the little blanket, Jiang En fell asleep before Qianzhou.
The lights overhead glowed faintly blue, dimmer than usual.
The vegetables on the racks were neatly arranged. Qianzhou tried to stay awake by counting spinach leaves.
But just like counting sheep, it was more hypnotic than helpful.
By the time both of them had drifted off, faint footsteps echoed outside the freezer.
They didn’t know.
The whole company was already in a frenzy searching for them.
In the surveillance room, staff were combing through every frame of footage.
Meanwhile, the rival company’s president—Jiang Huachen—
stood in Gu Sheng’s office, a steel pipe in hand, his face grim, the glass door shattered at his feet.
Gu Sheng kicked aside a broken doorknob near his foot, sneering.
“President Jiang, can’t keep control of your people, so you barge into my company to make trouble?”
The tension between them was like drawn blades, suffocating in the office.
Gu Sheng valued his reputation, and outwardly gave Jiang Huachen some respect.
But in terms of strength, Jiang Huachen was a notch below him.
The assistant outside didn’t dare breathe, watching as their boss’s eyes flicked toward the sofa in the corner.
The sofa was covered in shards of glass.
Qianzhou’s little blanket had fallen to the ground, and the spot where he liked to lounge was slashed by glass.
The once tidy, cozy corner was now wrecked.
Rarely, Gu Sheng dropped the pretense.
He grabbed Jiang Huachen by the collar and punched him in the face.
“Looks like you’re tired of living!”
