The next morning, Qian Zhou lay motionless on the bed, his face buried in the pillow, one arm dangling weakly off the side.
There was now a bracelet on his wrist—something Gu Sheng had put on him before leaving that morning.
【System 052: Host, are you alright?】
【Qian Zhou: ……】
【System 052: I tried an emergency escape from this world yesterday, but it kept failing. It looks like we can’t get out…】
Qian Zhou struggled to sit up, wrapped himself in the blanket like a caterpillar, and stared blankly at the ceiling.
Just then, someone entered the room.
Gu Sheng was wearing a black tracksuit, having just returned from working out in the downstairs gym. His breathing was slightly heavy.
He looked down at the lump on the bed, waited silently for three seconds.
Qian Zhou still didn’t respond, curled tightly in the blanket.
Without a word, Gu Sheng reached into the covers, grabbed hold of something, and dragged him out.
“What are you doing?!” Qian Zhou glared at him, hair sticking up in a messy puff.
Holding the boy’s ankle, Gu Sheng said flatly, “Next time you see me, speak first.”
“Understand?” he asked.
Qian Zhou turned his face away, reluctant. “Oh…”
Only then did Gu Sheng release him. He stripped off the tracksuit jacket, tossed his towel into the laundry bin, and, bare-chested, went into the bathroom.
When he came out, the bed was empty.
A delicate gilded gift box sat alone on the nightstand, stamped with the logo of the world’s most luxurious brand.
Glancing once at the trash bin, Gu Sheng tossed the box inside, along with the designer’s handwritten greeting card.
A faint clinking of metal on metal came from the bin.
Looking down, he saw the bracelet he himself had put on Qian Zhou that morning—tossed in with the trash.
Gu Sheng stared into the bin, silent for a long moment, then let out a low, incredulous laugh.
“So you’re done pretending.”
“You’d better not let me catch you.”

At that moment, Qian Zhou was crouching by the roadside under the blazing sun, biting at his shirt button with his teeth. The sudden chime of the system voice startled him.
That bracelet must have been found in the trash.
And that still counted toward Strategy Value.
Pervert… If he really caught him, it’d be miserable.
Snap!
The last thread snapped, and he tore off the button along with the micro-tracker, tossing both into a garbage heap.
Qian Zhou began circling the road, looking for a way out of the villa district.
But the place was absurdly huge. He walked nearly an hour without seeing another building.
He finally entered a small forest. At the deepest, shadiest point where the sun couldn’t reach, he leaned against a tree, wiping the sweat from his forehead with a tissue.
【Qian Zhou: Hey, 052, did you report the system error?】
【System 052: Reported. But it needs review by the main system, categorized by severity, and then assigned to a repair team… The whole process will take a while.】
【Qian Zhou: How long is “a while”?】
【System 052: At least half a year…】
“Half a year?!!!” Qian Zhou shot to his feet, panicked.
【Qian Zhou: No way, no way. Just call the Lord God to come rescue me.】
052 immediately conjured up a pair of invisible hands to cover his mouth.
【System 052: How dare you even think that! The Lord God is handling countless worlds every day. You only met him once, and you shamelessly want him to personally come save you!!!】
The system’s display box flushed bright red with anger.
Qian Zhou scratched his chin, idly kicking at a pebble on the grass, and muttered under his breath, “He’s the shameless one, always clinging to me…”
【System 052: What did you just say? I didn’t hear you.】
【Qian Zhou: Nothing.】
He shifted his gaze casually. The sunlight was dazzling and harsh, bugs flitted everywhere in the grass.
Qian Zhou swatted the air twice, ready to leave the shade—when his hand struck something soft.
“Who dares hit me!” A sharp cry rang out, and Qian Zhou was shoved backwards, landing flat on the ground.
He looked up from the dirt—straight into the eyes of a curly-haired boy he had accidentally struck.
【Qian Zhou: E–Evil Fleece…】
【System 052: Jiang En, an important figure in this small world. He’s your so-called best gay buddy.】
【Qian Zhou: What do you mean, ‘so-called’?】
【System 052: You’ll see in a moment. Hurry up, use this fake friendship to get his help. If Gu Sheng catches you, you’re done for.】
Hands on his hips, chin lifted proudly, Jiang En demanded, “What are you doing hiding here? Were you waiting to stop Uncle Gu’s car so you could pester him into taking you to the company?”
Qian Zhou scrambled up, muttering, “I’m already trying to avoid him…”
He glanced at Jiang En’s flushed face, at the bodyguard in black holding a parasol and a kiddie dog-shaped water bottle.
The bottle was nearly empty, and the bodyguard was drenched in sweat—it was obvious they’d been waiting a long time.
Qian Zhou narrowed his eyes knowingly. “You like Gu Sheng?”
Jiang En’s face turned scarlet. “N–No I don’t! Uncle Gu is gentle, refined, successful, modest, rational, and so handsome… I just… I just…”
Qian Zhou’s mouth twitched. He raised a hand to cut him off. “Stop.”
Jiang En yanked at Qian Zhou’s arm, pouting. “You’re not allowed to interrupt me!”
“Who wouldn’t like someone like Uncle Gu? He’s so great. Last time it rained, he even held an umbrella for me, and he—”
The cicadas screamed in the summer heat, and Jiang En just kept going on and on. Qian Zhou’s ears were about to explode.
“Okay, okay, I get it, you like Gu Sheng.”
Qian Zhou quickly pushed Jiang En toward the exit, snatching the silly dog-bottle hanging from the bodyguard’s neck on the way.
He popped open the straw and shoved it into Jiang En’s mouth.
Finally, silence. Coaxed onto the car, Jiang En was quiet at last.
As the city’s skyscrapers slid past the window, the only sound was Jiang En’s furious typing on his phone.
Qian Zhou patted his arm. “By the way, don’t tell him I’m here.”
“Ah… oh.” Jiang En slowly lowered his phone.
“You mean I really can’t?”
“But Uncle Gu already knows. He said after he’s done buying groceries, he’s coming over to cook for us.”
