Chapter 7: The Senior Abroad
Shen Yunzhou drank two glasses of water and watched TV for a while before hearing movement at the door.
“Zhouzhou, open the door.”
Lin Qingchi stood at the entrance, carrying an armful of groceries.
Shen Yunzhou hurried to open the door and took some of the items to help her. After everything was placed in the kitchen, they prepared dinner together.
The dishes were, as usual, washed by the dishwasher.
As the saying goes, “a full stomach stirs thoughts of other things.” Around 8 p.m., Shen Yunzhou stepped out of the bathroom, only to be dragged to bed by Lin Qingchi, who had been waiting for him.
By the time they finished, Lin Qingchi climbed off the now completely unrecognizable bed, grabbed her phone, and saw that it was already 1 a.m.
Rubbing his sore lower back, Shen Yunzhou also got up from the bed and slowly made his way to the bathroom.
Lin Qingchi didn’t follow him in. Instead, she glanced at the hundreds of missed calls and unread messages on her phone. After thinking for a moment, she deleted all of them without a second thought.
It was true that the original host of the body and Fang Qiong had grown up as close friends, but Lin Qingchi didn’t consider someone with such a warped mind as a friend.
After deleting her messages, Lin Qingchi found Shen Yunzhou’s phone amidst the chaos on the bed. Thankfully, there was nothing suspicious on it.
Still, Fang Qiong wasn’t as indifferent toward Shen Yunzhou as she pretended to be. With her connections, finding his number after his reappearance would have been a breeze.
Lin Qingchi glanced at the bathroom door, then saved her number on Shen Yunzhou’s phone, placing an “A” in front of her name to ensure it appeared first in his contacts.
When Shen Yunzhou came out, the bed had already been remade. Lin Qingchi told him to sleep first, then grabbed a fresh set of pajamas and headed to the bathroom.
Too exhausted, Shen Yunzhou moved sluggishly, tidied up a bit, and got into bed. As soon as he closed his eyes, he fell asleep.
On the bedside table to the right, his phone lay quietly in front of a photo frame holding a picture from his college days.
When Lin Qingchi came out of the bathroom at 1:30 a.m., she realized there was no urgent work the next day. Turning off her phone, she climbed into bed, wrapped Shen Yunzhou in her arms, and drifted into a deep sleep.
Meanwhile, outside the gates of the prestigious Zijinyuan residential area, Fang Qiong was fuming. Despite her threats and pleas, the security guards wouldn’t let her in. Hearing the “unreachable” message on the other end of the line, she furiously smashed her phone.
The security guards flinched and quietly moved closer to the wall. Ready for any unexpected situation, they kept a hand near the alarm to summon the police if necessary.
The residents of Zijinyuan were the absolute elite of the capital’s upper society, and the security system was correspondingly stringent.
Anyone who wasn’t a resident could only enter if the homeowner had prearranged it with security. Otherwise, not even a mouse could sneak in.
At 3 a.m., Fang Qiong, like a lioness in rage, paced at the gate before viciously kicking her newly purchased sports car. She glared at the entrance one last time before driving off.
8 a.m., Lin Family Estate
“Madam,” the Lin family’s butler greeted with a smile as he welcomed Fang Qiong inside. “Miss Fang is here.”
Lin Ye, who had been enjoying breakfast in the dining room, put down her chopsticks and looked at Fang Qiong with surprise.
“What brings you here today, Qiong? Are you here to join me for breakfast?”
Despite being nearly 50, Lin Ye’s face was rosy, and her demeanor exuded warmth and kindness. At first glance, she seemed approachable, but in reality, she was renowned in the capital for her ruthlessness.
At this moment, her gaze at Fang Qiong was full of delight as she urged, “Aunt Lin, prepare a plate of her favorite—”
“No need.” Fang Qiong interrupted, stopping abruptly at the dining table. “I’m here today to share some good news with you.”
Lin Ye paused, her expression darkening slightly as she frowned. “This sounds serious. What’s the good news?”
“Lin Qingchi is in a relationship,” Fang Qiong gritted out, her teeth clenched, “with my first love.”
Watching Lin Ye’s face darken instantly, Fang Qiong smirked coldly in her heart.
Lin Qingchi, since you insist on fighting me to the end, let’s see how you protect Shen Yunzhou under your aunt’s watchful eyes.
8:20 a.m., Zijinyuan
Lin Qingchi was woken by a piercing ringtone. Groggily, she reached for her phone and pressed it to her ear, her tone irritated. “What is it?”
She Thought It Was Her Assistant
The next second,
Lin Qingchi’s eyes snapped open.
“I’m giving you thirty minutes,” came Lin Ye’s icy voice from the other end of the phone, cold enough to chill to the bone. “Get back here and face me.”
Lin Qingchi replied, “If you’ve got something to say, say it. I just got back from Italy yesterday, and all I want is sleep. I don’t have time for your madness.”
A crashing sound came through the phone, followed by Lin Ye’s shrill, piercing voice. “Tell me, are you dating some penniless nobody?”
Lin Qingchi’s expression instantly turned frosty.
“I introduced you to so many young men from prominent families, and you ignored them all,” Lin Ye shouted. “And now you dare to pick up Fang Qiong’s discarded trash? Break up! Break up with him immediately!”
Lin Ye’s yelling was so loud that even though the phone wasn’t on speaker, Shen Yunzhou could hear every word clearly.
Lin Qingchi noticed he was awake and immediately reached out to cover his ears. She coldly addressed Lin Ye’s ranting on the other end of the line: “If you don’t want to end up in a mental institution, shut your mouth.”
At the mention of “mental institution,” the shouting on the other end abruptly ceased.
Then, the call was disconnected.
Lin Qingchi tossed the phone aside, lay back down, and burrowed under the blanket. She pulled the trembling Shen Yunzhou tightly into her arms.
“Zhouzhou is not trash.”
“Zhouzhou is my treasure.”
“Don’t be scared. It’s okay. She won’t dare do anything to you. You have me. I won’t let anyone force you to leave again.”
“I’m not Fang Qiong. I’m Lin Qingchi. I have the power to protect you. As long as you don’t want to leave, you can stay by my side forever. Trust me, okay?”
She soothed him with gentle reassurances, kissing the top of his head repeatedly until his trembling subsided.
“She’s your relative?” Shen Yunzhou asked, his face pale. “She hates me.”
Lin Qingchi kissed his lips. “Her hatred isn’t about you. It’s directed at anyone whose background she sees as beneath her. Yes, she’s my relative, but she doesn’t control me.”
Shen Yunzhou understood, but his expression remained uneasy, his eyes clouded with panic.
Lin Qingchi knew he needed time.
“Shoot!” After an indeterminate amount of time, Shen Yunzhou’s face suddenly changed. He scrambled out of Lin Qingchi’s arms. “I’m late!”
Lin Qingchi raised an eyebrow, quickly understanding the situation. She pushed the now-panicked Shen Yunzhou back onto the bed, grabbed his phone, and made a call.
“Hello, is this Supervisor Wang? I’m a family member of Shen Yunzhou. He has a fever and hasn’t woken up yet, so I’d like to request a leave of absence for him.”
“No need to worry. I’ll take care of him.”
“Oh, no need for you to come over. Our whole family is here, so it’s all under control…”
Shen Yunzhou went from shock to disbelief and, finally, to a soft chuckle as Lin Qingchi hung up. For the first time in what felt like forever, a smile spread across his face.
Lin Qingchi lied without batting an eye. Her tone and delivery were utterly convincing, like second nature.
“You dare laugh at me?”
Lin Qingchi suddenly lunged at Shen Yunzhou—
And tickled him mercilessly.
Shen Yunzhou struggled for a while, unable to escape. In the end, he laughed uncontrollably.
His laughter was particularly captivating. Watching him, Lin Qingchi couldn’t resist
herself. Her hands moved as if on their own, pulling off his pajama top.
The room fell silent.
Their eyes met.
“…”
The entire morning was spent in bed, lost in wild abandon. By noon, Shen Yunzhou’s stomach growled loudly, finally bringing an end to their antics. Lin Qingchi relented and headed downstairs to prepare lunch.
