Chapter 2: Saving the Green Tea Female Supporting Role in the Dating Show World (2)
Song Lingshu sat back at the vanity, removing her makeup while confirming something with the system.
[Song Lingshu: After completing all the tasks, can you really grant my wish?]
[System: Yes.]
Song Lingshu had been living well in her own world, becoming the most talented actress at twenty-three. Privately, she loved exciting sports, learned many skills, and met people from various fields, enriching her life.
The media called her the most hardworking gifted actress.
But after an awards ceremony, she was in a car accident, left in a vegetative state, and still lying in a hospital.
Somehow, her soul drifted to a mysterious space where the system told her she was chosen as a new member of the Time and Space Administration, assigned to the after-sales team.
While protagonists in every world got their happy endings, some supporting characters were left with lifelong regrets, their resentment so strong it disrupted the normal functioning of those worlds.
Her new job was to save these resentful female supporting characters without altering the story’s direction, especially the main couple’s romance.
[Song Lingshu: Any wish? Like winning every award?]
[System: Yes.]
[Song Lingshu: Becoming the world’s richest person and retiring comfortably, that’s okay too?]
[System: Okay.]
[Song Lingshu: Wow, what about… bringing someone back to life?]
[System: No problem.]
[Song Lingshu: Alright, tell me, what’s the next task!]
[System: Current side task: Badmouth Female 1 in front of Zheng Haonan. Completing it will earn 10 points.]
Song Lingshu understood. This was a scene from the novel where Yu Qin, late at night, tearfully told Zheng Haonan that Female 1 seemed to be deliberately ignoring her, leaving her unsure what to do.
When that episode aired, it cemented Yu Qin’s green tea reputation, sparking countless online insults.
Now, tasked with this, it was clearly to push the main couple’s romance forward. Zheng Haonan, seeing through her green tea behavior, ignored her and found Female 1 even more innocent and refined, earning him praise from netizens as a “green tea detector.”
The bathroom door opened, and Guan Yue, having calmed herself, thought she must’ve been foolish to believe such nonsense. After confirming with her parents that there was no secret sister, she grew more curious about how Song Lingshu knew so much about her.
Stepping out, she saw Song Lingshu humming a song, ready to leave. “Yu Qin, where are you going?” she asked.
“To find Zheng Haonan. Got something to say to him,” Song Lingshu replied.
“What’s so urgent you need to talk this late?” Guan Yue frowned. Her slightly improved impression of Song Lingshu dropped again. With cameras around, this would surely get her criticized. “Don’t go. Let’s keep playing chess. Did you run off earlier because you were losing?”
Song Lingshu paused.
In the original story, Guan Yue never stopped Yu Qin, always acting as a detached observer, minding her own business. While others flirted, cried together, or partied, Guan Yue stared at reports on camera. Her aloofness earned her the nickname “the most rational female boss,” with reports as her “partner.”
But now, Guan Yue showed a hint of concern, which surprised Song Lingshu.
“Come on, let’s play,” Guan Yue said, pointing at the chessboard.
“You’re a good person,” Song Lingshu said, then left with a bright smile to do her task.
“…?”
Was that a good person card? Guan Yue stood stunned, then shook her head, thinking: Don’t be fooled by her act; she just wanted to dodge the game.
Still, not wanting Song Lingshu to get hate, Guan Yue searched the villa and found two figures on the rooftop. She heard Song Lingshu pitifully say, “I don’t know if it’s just me, but I feel like Aya doesn’t like me. I want to be friends with her, but she seems distant. She sits far from me at meals and calls me last for activities. I don’t know what to do. Haonan, any advice?”
Zheng Haonan looked at her with a complex expression, sensing her veiled accusations, and said impatiently, “It’s probably just your imagination.”
Guan Yue frowned, about to pull Yu Qin back, when Song Lingshu suddenly laughed brightly. “Oh, it’s just my imagination? Cool, I’m good then. Bye!”
Zheng Haonan: “?”
Guan Yue: “?” That was resolved so quickly?
Song Lingshu turned, saw Guan Yue, and cheerfully grabbed her arm to head downstairs. Back in the room, she sat at the chess table. “Come on, let’s continue.”
Guan Yue glanced at her arm. The room’s AC was cold, making Song Lingshu’s touch feel warm. She instinctively touched the spot, then casually sat to play.
Within minutes, Song Lingshu lost.
“One more round!”
A determined woman never admits defeat!
They played more military chess, evenly matched. Song Lingshu looked at her admiringly. “Commander Guan, you’re pretty good. I’ll challenge you again sometime.”
“No need,” Guan Yue said, checking her phone for work reports. She refused to play more, sat at another table, opened her laptop, and started her usual work.
Song Lingshu, bored, went to shower and checked her points.
[Song Lingshu: System, did I get the points?]
[System: First, I’m not… whatever. Points received. You used 2 for the chess set, so your current balance is 108. You’re sneaky.]
To prevent her from cheating like before by redirecting tasks, the system specified Zheng Haonan this time. Yet, she ended the conversation so easily.
[Song Lingshu: But I completed the task, right? Said the lines and boosted the main couple’s romance.]
[System: Boosted how?]
[Song Lingshu: Zheng Haonan probably thinks I’m an idiot now. Doesn’t that make Female 1 seem super smart in comparison?]
[System: …]
It was a bit of a stretch, but not entirely wrong.
After her shower, Song Lingshu dried her hair, smelling fresh, and opened the door, nearly startled by a pale face. It was just Guan Yue with a face mask on. “Why are you standing there?” she asked.
“The crew just came by. It’s time to write tonight’s letter.”
“Oh, okay.”
Per the rules, contestants wrote a letter to their crush each night and put it in their mailbox. Some changed their crushes, leading to unexpected twists, making the letters a major highlight.
They sat at separate tables to write. Guan Yue wrote quickly, but within a minute, she noticed someone sneaking closer, trying to peek at her letter.
She covered it and turned to the sneaky figure. “What are you looking at? Can’t you write?”
Song Lingshu grinned. “Just curious what you’d write.”
Guan Yue: “Why?”
“To learn.”
“What’s there to learn? Just write what’s in your heart.”
“Got it.”
After finishing, they dropped their letters in the mailboxes.
Song Lingshu asked curiously, “Who’d you write to?”
“Don’t worry, not Zheng Haonan.”
“Oh, aren’t you curious who I wrote to?”
“Who else but Zheng Haonan?”
“Oh.”
Later, the director called everyone to check their mailboxes.
As expected, Song Lingshu got nothing.
The novel’s setup was clear: the female lead was a charming, gentle, sexy, and smart woman, paired with an equally charming male lead, creating a sugary sweet romance in the show.
Everyone else was just a backdrop. The women wrote to the male lead, the men to the female lead.
Except for Guan Yue, who wrote to the male lead on the first day but stopped after noticing his interest in the female lead, choosing to write to herself instead.
Zheng Haonan opened his mailbox, smiling at the sight of letters, his expression perfect for a sweet edit with the female lead.
But when he took them out, there were only two letters instead of the usual three. Puzzled, he returned to his room, wondering who didn’t write to him.
Back in their room, with nothing to do, Song Lingshu chatted with the system.
[Song Lingshu: System, I want to redeem points!]
[System: Sure you don’t want to save up? Other hosts save for big rewards.]
[Song Lingshu: Stop nagging. I want new clothes. Yu Qin’s wardrobe is so tacky.]
[System: …What kind of clothes? Click the shop’s right button and redeem yourself.]
Song Lingshu followed the instructions, tried on items, and grudgingly picked a sleeveless long dress, costing 2 points. [Your shop sucks. These styles are so outdated. Can’t you upgrade? I’ve got so many points, how am I supposed to use them?]
[System: …We’re not some miracle fashion game.]
[Song Lingshu: You could be.]
[System: …]
Soon, Guan Yue returned with two envelopes, looking troubled and confused, staring blankly as she placed them on the table.
Two envelopes.
One was from herself, but who sent the other?
She opened it, checking the signature first.
—Yu Qin.
Guan Yue gaped at her roommate, who emerged from the bathroom in a long dress, her fair skin and delicate collarbone on display, a subtle curve dipping into the elegant dress, her figure like a flawless work of art, smooth and perfect.
“Looks good, right?” Song Lingshu twirled confidently, winking playfully as if posing for a camera.
Guan Yue: “!!”
