After saying that, she led a group of people away in a grand procession, leaving behind only the ashen-faced mother-in-law and daughter-in-law pair, along with the young women who had come to watch the drama.
The more Old Madam Luo looked at Chen Juhua, the more hatred burned in her eyes. But before her hand could even touch the woman, Luo Ping charged out of the house and punched Chen Juhua square in the face.
Then came a second punch, a third punch—his mouth spitting curses nonstop:
“How could you be so stupid? Why don’t you just die? Do you just want to ruin me?”
The same accusations repeated over and over. A son beating his mother—this was a scene the crowd of onlookers hadn’t expected.
“Why isn’t Luo Ping at work?”
“My son said he took sick leave. Looking at him now, he doesn’t seem sick at all. Could it be he’s deliberately shirking labor?”
While the crowd speculated, the aunt next door to the Luo family enlightened them.
“This boy really is sick. And it’s a serious sickness in that area. He… well, he can’t do it anymore. Might never be able to have kids.”
In this era, infertility was earth-shattering gossip. At once, the crowd lost interest in the fight itself and swarmed the woman who had spilled the secret, peppering her with questions.
For a gossip-hungry soul, the attention made her spine straighten with pride.
“That day, I was squatting in the outhouse and overheard them whispering. I was curious, so I leaned closer to the wall and listened for a long while. That’s when I caught this shocking news.”
“Eh—though I can’t stand the Luo family, to have this happen so young, before he’s even had children… it’s quite pitiful, really.”
Her words mouthed sympathy, but inside she was secretly delighted.
No one else might know how difficult the Luo family was to deal with, but as their next-door neighbor, she had the clearest right to speak.
They always tried to take advantage of others, yet couldn’t tolerate even the smallest loss. They picked fights every three days over trivial things.
That wasn’t even the worst of it—she suspected that the missing egg and two meat buns from her household had been stolen by them.
Thieves! She wouldn’t lower herself to associate with such people.
Once the crowd confirmed the gossip’s truth, their curious eyes turned to Luo Ping, who was still busy pummeling his mother.
The whispering gradually filtered into his ears, cooling his anger little by little—only for a crushing sense of humiliation to flood in.
Suddenly, he jumped up and ran toward the door.
The crowd thought he was about to turn from beating his mother to attacking them, and they all scrambled back in fear.
But instead, Luo Ping only roared at them:
“Keep running your mouths, and I’ll cut out your tongues!”
Then he slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
The ferocity of his glare had left the crowd momentarily terrified. Only once the door was closed did they shuffle off awkwardly.
But though the people left, the gossip spread all the same. In less than half a day, everyone—friends and strangers alike—knew Luo Ping was impotent.
That meant Luo Ping had even less reason to step outside now.
Old Madam Luo’s heart ached beyond words at her grandson’s plight. She threw herself on the half-dead Chen Juhua and clawed at her.
“How could you do this? Now look! The money—gone! And Ping’er’s condition has been spread to everyone. How’s he supposed to find a wife now?”
This time, Old Madam Luo truly wept, sobbing as though her guts were tearing apart, convinced there was no hope for the future.
“Mother, it wasn’t me who said it! You have to believe me!”
Chen Juhua, enduring the pain racking her body, tried desperately to defend herself. But no one would believe her.
Meanwhile, on the train where she had already spent a day and a night, Luo An was grumbling to 001.
“You know, this thing is really useless! It’s nothing compared to me flying on my sword.”
001’s mouth twitched. To compare a green train car to sword flight… surely this was a first in all history.
“Host, we absolutely can’t fly right now! If people saw you, half of them would be scared to death. No, no—we can’t let Heaven’s Dao notice us, or the mission will fail.”
Seeing 001 shake its head like a rattle drum, Luo An felt mischievous. “And if I insist on doing it anyway?”
“Don’t! Host, you’re such a kind person, how could you bully a little system like me?” 001 batted its eyes, feigning cuteness.
“Then give me something good to bribe me. Food works too.”
001 nearly burst into tears. The mission hadn’t even been completed yet, and the host was already demanding benefits. What should it do? Urgent, online waiting!
Its little processor whirred as it came up with a plan. “Host, there are too many people on the train. Eating here would be inconvenient. Once we arrive, I’ll give it to you.”
It was, of course, just a delaying tactic. With luck, she’d forget by then.
But Luo An wasn’t so easily put off. She flicked her finger, and a transparent barrier wrapped around her.
“There, now it’s convenient. They can’t see or smell anything. But it did drain quite a lot of my internal energy. You know what to do, don’t you?”
001: … It really didn’t want to know.
But cowardly as it was, and afraid this powerhouse might actually start flying her sword in front of the whole carriage, it reluctantly produced a blueberry ice cream.
“This… didn’t exist in your world. Try it, see if you like it.”
Luo An gobbled it up in a few bites. Not bad at all!
Her eyes sparkled. “Give me a few more.”
001 protested weakly: “Host, this is too cold. Eating too much isn’t good for your stomach.”
Luo An scoffed. “What, don’t you believe in my abilities? If something this small could make me sick, then what were my three hundred years as a great demon worth? Hurry up, stop whining.”
With no choice, 001 pulled out several different flavors of ice cream, watching with heartache as she devoured them all.
It couldn’t help drooling a little. It had wanted to try these treats for ages—but it couldn’t eat.
Afraid Luo An would demand more, 001 quickly changed the subject. “Host, what do you think the Luo family’s situation is like right now?”
Luo An smiled slyly. “What else? They’re the fighter jet among tragedies!”
After all, she hadn’t set just one trap, but several. With each pitfall they stumbled into, how could that family not collapse?
001 thought back to the schemes she’d laid before leaving and couldn’t stop grinning. For all her trickiness, this host really was brilliant at getting things done.
“Now do you see how much effort I put in to complete this mission?”
001 nodded furiously, grinning ear to ear. It could already imagine how jealous the other systems would be once it finished its KPIs.
Promotion, a raise, and a new skin!
It would be the brightest star of the system world!
But its beautiful fantasy was shattered in an instant by one sentence from Luo Ning.
Hmm, well ok? It seems to be an interesting start?
