- Chapter 42 - The Rich White Beauty in the Strategy Novel Goes on a Rampage 3
She was trapped inside that building, repeating the motion of jumping from the roof again and again. She watched her parents and brother often stand outside that very building in a daze — all of them looking much older and exhausted.
She had also seen Fu Sinian and Qin Xin; they were living even better than before — money and power in abundance — but all of it was gained by trampling on the original heroine’s corpse. How could she not hate them?
That was why she came to Luo An: only by seeing them fall into misery with her own eyes could she untie the knot in her heart and truly move on.
At present, however, the Fu family’s and Luo family’s strengths were still far apart. The big projects the Fu family had just gotten were won only because the Luo family had invested; thanks to these projects the Fu family was rolling in profit.
Tsk — perfect timing: get it and lose it right away. How thrilling!
Right after leaving the café, Luo An pulled out her phone and called her father. The moment he picked up, she instantly shifted her expression and tone, playing the part of the little girl phoning home to complain — none of the domineering energy she’d just used on those men.
“Daddy, what’s up? Missing your daughter?”
Luo Father was busy at the company; when he saw his daughter calling, he signaled his subordinates to wait a moment.
“Dad, that bastard Fu Sinian bullied me. You must withdraw the company’s investment — we won’t fund those projects anymore.”
He knew how fond his daughter had been of that Fu fellow; hearing the tone, he knew something serious had happened. Furious that his daughter had been mistreated when he wasn’t there to protect her, he bristled.
“What happened? Tell me clearly, and I’ll stand by you.”
As expected, Luo Father put all other considerations aside and put his daughter first.
Seeing that protective devotion made Luo An quite pleased.
“Dad, he’s been cozying up to someone else. I ran into him and that girl walking arm in arm. Fu Sinian even bought that girl a bag and dresses! After I caught them, he kept protecting that girl. He doesn’t love me — he only chased me because you pressured him! Dad, I’m so unhappy!”
Hearing that, Luo Father’s heart ached. He slammed his palm down on the desk, making the subordinate who was waiting to report jump.
“You bastard! Little punk! How dare he bully my family! Come home right away. I’ll call your mother to come back and be with you. Don’t do anything stupid. I’ll call the Fu family right now and see what kind of people they raised! Don’t worry — I’ll give you an explanation.”
Luo An had no worries; she was satisfied. “Okay! Dad, don’t hold back — say anything nasty you want. Don’t bottle it up. And remember: withdraw the investment. With an heir like him, the Fu family won’t last long.”
“Got it. I’ll hang up now. Behave and come home.”
The call cut off with a dial tone. Luo An smiled, put away her phone, and drove her supercar home.
Her mother had been home waiting. The moment her daughter walked in, she fussed over her.
“An’an, are you okay? That Fu brat isn’t worth it. There are frogs with four legs—don’t bother with two-legged ones. Plenty of men out there, you know?”
“I know you liked him, but his behavior shows he’s not husband material. Be glad you found out before marriage — if you only discovered it after, you’d be even more heartbroken.”
“You’re really blessed, An’an. Why else would heaven let you find out his true face now, so you don’t have to suffer in that kind of family?”
As she spoke, Mrs. Luo watched her daughter’s expression closely, ready to change tactics if anything seemed off. Her aim was simply to make her daughter happy.
Although Old Mr. Luo said he would handle the Fu family himself, feelings are fickle — what if the daughter changed her mind later? She had to crush any wrong thoughts quickly, or her daughter would suffer.
Luo An stared at her mother, feeling only warmth. “I know, Mom. This time I won’t be foolish. He can say it doesn’t matter to him, but he can’t falsely claim you forced him. He’s just lazy about choosing partners, that’s all. I’ve got plenty on my plate. Since he’s shameless now, we’ll pull back the investment and put that money where it’s more useful — it would have been wasted dressing him up.”
Her mother hadn’t expected such clarity and beamed, slapping the sofa in delight as she praised her daughter.
“That’s my seed — able to pick up and let go. Your father’s worry was unnecessary.”
Er… that sounded a bit too casual for a rich matron’s image — should someone remind her about propriety? Nah. As long as she’s happy.
Reassured, Luo An went to rest. Rich families really were different — the room, the bed, the walk-in closet — nothing like her past life. She felt great.
Watching her roll around on the bed like a child, 001 hesitated a long time before asking the question it couldn’t keep inside.
“Host, why didn’t you beat that disgusting Qin Xin? Letting her go is too lenient — this wasn’t the original ending for the heroine.”
Luo An was unconcerned. “I said I wouldn’t hit her, so I didn’t. I keep my word.”
Still, 001 sensed something off. Its host — was she really that good-natured?
“Host, are you secretly up to something?”
“Really curious?”
001 nodded vigorously, eyes shining with curiosity. Then it saw Luo An put her palm up toward it.
What! Even this small favor must be paid for? And she calls herself a good person?
001 was reluctant, clutching its metaphorical pocket, protesting: “Host, I’m still a child.”
“Don’t pretend. Who bragged to me the other day about their glorious feats, claiming to be an elder by system years? An elder behaves like this?”
001: …I shouldn’t have said anything — now I’m being conned!
“Besides, didn’t I get you a lot of great stuff in my last life? You forgot?” Luo An pressed.
001 sniffed. “But you also took a lot from me. Those things cost money — remember?”
Fine. The system had started talking back. If Luo An couldn’t get it to comply, it would be trouble later.
Luo An tilted her head seriously at 001. “No — you’re hiding something from me.”
