- Chapter 111 - The Stand-In Lover Will Not Be a Cannon Fodder 017
Han Che wasn’t exactly a first-tier actor, at best, he was second-tier. However, Hou Xin had always chosen actors based on skill and suitability for the role, rather than their fame. That’s how Han Che ended up being cast as the male lead in this big production.
In the original plot, both Han Che and Su Nian skyrocketed to fame as respected actors thanks to their performances in this drama.
Han Che had even spent several months training in martial arts specifically for this role, as it involved many action scenes, and he wanted to make them as impressive as possible.
The reason he insisted on having the action scene shot first was because he was confident Sheng Nuan wouldn’t be able to handle it. He wanted to give her a hard time, ruin her confidence, and, ideally, get her kicked out by Hou Xin.
This scene was a practice fight between a brother and sister.
The clapperboard snapped into place for the first take…
Han Che immediately got into character. “Yue’er, Imperial Brother won’t go easy on you.”
Sheng Nuan lifted her chin, playfully defiant, “Bring it on, Imperial Brother.”
Han Che swiftly swung his sword toward her… only for a loud clang to sound as his sword was instantly disarmed, flying out of his hand.
He froze, completely stunned.
Hou Xin was furious. “Cut! Li Chengping, did you not have breakfast?”
Sheng Nuan chimed in, “Oh no, Teacher Han, I’m so sorry. Did I use too much strength?”
Han Che: ……
“Sorry, Director. Let’s do it again.”
The clapperboard snapped once more…
Swish, swish, swish. They exchanged several moves, and Han Che felt a sinking feeling in his stomach.
Sheng Nuan actually knows martial arts?
But before he could process it, his elbow suddenly went numb, and once again, his sword was knocked away…
Han Che widened his eyes in disbelief as he stared at Sheng Nuan across from him, almost ready to curse.
She had hit the nerve in his arm with the prop sword. This was absolutely intentional!
Hou Xin was genuinely angry now. “Li Chengping, what’s going on with you?”
Han Che opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say… Was he really going to admit that not only could Sheng Nuan block his moves, but she also had enough energy to strike his pressure point?
That would be humiliating.
Sheng Nuan, looking a bit regretful, said, “Oh no, Teacher Han, did I use too much force again? My apologies, I’ll be gentler next time.”
The staff members around them were beginning to give Han Che strange looks… Han Che thought he overheard someone say the word “weak!”
Weak?
They were calling him weak?
Who could tolerate that?
Han Che picked up his long sword, radiating a murderous aura, but two minutes later, it was once again knocked out of his hand…
He was numb, completely numb!
After finally finishing the action scene, Han Che let out a long sigh of relief, completely forgetting about his original plan to humiliate Sheng Nuan.
On the contrary, he felt like he had just survived a disaster.
The next scene was a dialogue between the two of them… By this point, Han Che had completely given up any thoughts of causing trouble.
He was afraid that if he messed up a few more times, he’d be the one getting kicked out of the crew!
The second scene was one where Li Chengping had been injured…
After the clapperboard snapped, Li Chengping sat bare-chested on a couch, while Princess Zhu Yue sat across from him, watching as his subordinates bandaged him, her brow furrowed.
Suddenly, she said, “Let me kill those people for you, Imperial Brother.”
Li Chengping looked up in surprise, only to see his usually innocent and carefree sister quietly staring at his wound, her eyes flashing with a strange cold glint… it inexplicably reminded him of a beast lurking in the grass.
Instinctively, he called out, “Yue’er.”
Zhu Yue snapped back to reality, blinking, then smiled. “Oh, I wish I had that ability… I hate those who hurt Imperial Brother.”
The girl in red pouted, her face full of childish displeasure, just like before.
Li Chengping suddenly found it a little funny… He must have seen it wrong. Yue’er was timid and didn’t understand anything. How could she ever have such a look in her eyes?
“Cut, perfect!”
With one take, they got it. From a distance, Hou Xin gave Sheng Nuan a thumbs up and said, “Great job as Zhu Yue, keep it up.”
As the crew prepared for the next scene, Han Che finally saw his chance. He stepped forward and looked at Sheng Nuan coldly. “You did that on purpose!”
Sheng Nuan blinked with an innocent expression. “What?”
Han Che gritted his teeth. “Don’t pretend with me.”
“Oh, Teacher Han, are you talking about how you kept dropping your sword earlier?” Sheng Nuan hesitated and said, “It seems that it was indeed my fault…”
Han Che’s expression was just beginning to soften when Sheng Nuan continued, “It’s my fault that I didn’t realize Teacher Han was so physically weak. I must’ve used too much strength. How about this, as an apology, I’ll buy you a few bottles of Liuwei Dihuang¹ pills?”
Han Che was dumbfounded.
Sheng Nuan added, “If that’s not enough… I could buy you a whole box.”
Han Che, worried he might lose control and hit a woman, took a deep breath and turned to leave. Behind him, Sheng Nuan continued to call after him, “Teacher Han, Teacher Han… Liuwei Dihuang pills are really good!”
Han Che whipped around, gritting his teeth, and roared. “Shut up!”
Sheng Nuan quickly covered her mouth.
When Han Che turned back, he realized that all the staff around them were giving him meaningful looks…
His face turned pitch black.
Su Nian approached from the other side with concerned eyes. “A’Che, are you okay?”
Han Che, his expression softening, shook his head. Then he asked, “Have you met that woman?”
Su Nian smiled and said, “It’s not like she and I have any relationship. Why would I go out of my way to see her? We’ll run into each other while filming later.”
Han Che paused for a moment, gazing at Su Nian’s beautiful and gentle face. His eyes flickered slightly before he tentatively asked, “You really don’t care at all that she’s with Fu Yunxi?”
Su Nian smiled. “If I cared, why would I have turned him down in the first place? You’re overthinking it.”
Han Che’s mood improved immediately. After a pause, he cleared his throat and said, “That’s actually good. For a person like Fu Yunxi… his ruthless business tactics show how cold and calculating he is. It’s better that Nian Nian doesn’t like him… You should take a look at the people around you more.”
Han Che felt a little awkward, his eyes drifting.
Many of the people they grew up with liked Su Nian… When he first entered the entertainment industry, his plan had been to stay close and eventually win her over.
Su Nian was briefly stunned, then smiled.
She lowered her head, lightly biting her lip as she smiled softly and murmured, “Okay.”
Han Che’s eyes lit up…
On Sheng Nuan’s first day with the crew, Fu Yunxi didn’t receive any messages from her.
After absentmindedly checking his phone several times, Fu Yunxi sneered. Heh. Great, no need to reply to her pointless messages. Wonderful!
On Sheng Nuan’s second day with the crew, there was still no message.
For the entire day, everyone in the Fu Corporation headquarters walked on eggshells… because reliable sources said that President Fu was in a bad mood today.
On Sheng Nuan’s third day with the crew, during lunch, Fu Yunxi’s phone buzzed.
He paused for a moment, picked up his phone, and unlocked it to see that it was a message from Sheng Nuan.
She had sent a picture… It must be another one of her stinky fart selfies. Boring…
Fu Yunxi opened the message at a leisurely pace, only to freeze in place.
What Sheng Nuan sent was indeed an image, but it wasn’t a photo. It was a screenshot of a gossip article.
The gossip claimed that new movie queen Luo Xinling had been seen at a hotel last night, arriving in the Fu Corporation president’s car, leading to suspicions that the two were in a romantic relationship…
