- Chapter 164 - The Disfigured Girlfriend Will Not Be a Cannon Fodder 025
Seeing this scene, the younger sister was immediately terrified.
Her older sister had always struggled to turn people into paintings. It required careful planning and catching people off guard. But this man accomplished it with just a wave of his hand, without her sister even having time to react.
Fear welled up in her heart, and the younger sister suddenly turned to flee toward the door… At the same moment, Luo Lin snapped his head up, and just then, another shadow shot out from a nearby room, aiming to crash through the window.
However, both figures collided as if they’d hit an invisible barrier and fell to the ground with a thud.
Lifting the younger sister into the air by her throat, Luo Lin slowly turned his head and saw the extra figure, a lean man.
The man looked horrified. “Don’t… don’t kill me, please.”
Luo Lin glanced at him and then raised his hand… With a crack, the neck of the younger sister hanging in the air snapped, and the light in her eyes immediately faded.
The man at Luo Lin’s feet instantly turned pale, collapsing onto the ground.
Moments later, Luo Lin saw the younger sister’s body vanish without a trace…
“So, this is your real ability, creating clones, right?” Luo Lin curled his lips faintly.
With the clone dead, the man had clearly suffered a severe injury, his face pale and lips trembling as he tried to beg for mercy. But in the next moment, Luo Lin raised his hand again… The man’s expression froze in terror, and then he disappeared from sight.
On the carpet where he had stood, a portrait appeared—a painting of the man, his face twisted in fear.
The paper puppet ability… is quite useful.
But Luo Lin wasn’t interested in keeping two puppets, so he decided to let them simply remain as part of a painting…
Luo Lin glanced at a box on the table, filled with various “portraits” of different people, clearly the previous works of the two sisters. He raised an eyebrow indifferently and then turned to leave…
Later that night, Sheng Nuan woke up thirsty and got up to drink some water. As she was sipping, she noticed someone outside.
It was Luo Lin.
Curious, she opened the door and saw Luo Lin just reaching for the handle to come in.
Sheng Nuan was surprised. “Where did you go?”
Luo Lin paused slightly, then turned back and smiled softly. “I couldn’t sleep, so I went downstairs for a bit. Did I wake you, Sister?”
Sheng Nuan responded with a simple “I got up to drink water.”
Luo Lin hesitated for a moment, instinctively pursing his lips as he started to move toward Sheng Nuan. Just as he was about to take a step, he heard her yawn and mumble, “Get some rest.”
With that, she closed the door decisively.
Luo Lin froze in place, feeling somewhat bewildered… After a moment, he turned and went back to his own room.
Even the next day, as they left the safety zone and continued on their journey, the confusion still lingered in Luo Lin’s heart.
Sheng Nuan drove, the cool wind blowing in from the windows, making the air feel refreshing… Luo Lin sat quietly in the passenger seat, subtly observing her.
After a long silence, he finally realized a problem: Sheng Nuan hadn’t looked at him once.
And over the past few days, she no longer occasionally teased him like she used to either…
When did it start to change?
What does she mean…?
When they set up camp that evening, Luo Lin tentatively offered, “Sister, rest for the night. I’ll keep watch.”
After speaking, he held his breath slightly, waiting for Sheng Nuan’s response.
If this were before, she definitely wouldn’t have let him keep watch. She would have insisted that he rest and not worry about anything…
The next moment, Luo Lin heard Sheng Nuan promptly respond, “Okay.”
Sheng Nuan’s straightforward agreement left Luo Lin momentarily silent.
Perhaps it was because Sheng Nuan thought that now he had recovered, and after copying her and Qin Yu’s abilities, he no longer needed protection, so she had relaxed…
At that moment, he heard Sheng Nuan speak again, “Wait, you don’t need to keep watch.”
Luo Lin’s expression softened instantly.
Sure enough, she still cared a lot about him…
But then, he saw Sheng Nuan raise her hand and toss something out. Moments later, a few plants with swaying heads appeared in a circle about a few dozen meters from the tent. Luo Lin’s expression briefly turned to one of confusion.
“What… are those?”
Sheng Nuan blinked. “Try attacking one.”
Luo Lin glanced at her, noticing the playful gleam and mischievous smile in her eyes. After a brief hesitation, he stood up and approached one of the plant-like figures that resembled a giant corn stalk.
When he was about ten meters away from the plant, Luo Lin raised his hand and sent a wind blade toward it from a distance… At the same time, he saw the corn-like plant launch something in return.
Luo Lin, curious, didn’t resist and allowed the object to hit him squarely… But in the next instant, with a splat, he realized it was a sticky, yellowish blob.
“What… is this…”
As soon as he spoke, he realized his speech had become incredibly slow. In fact, his entire body felt like it was moving in slow motion, as if someone had pressed the slow-motion button on him.
He tried to lift his hand, but his movements became sluggish and stiff.
Across from him, Sheng Nuan was dumbfounded.
She had meant for Luo Lin to test out the corn thrower, but she never expected him not to dodge at all…
A short while later, after regaining his mobility, Luo Lin sat by the campfire, his expression blank. Sheng Nuan, struggling to hold back her laughter, diligently wiped his face with exaggerated care.
Seeing the look of grievance in Luo Lin’s eyes, she couldn’t help but defend herself with an innocent tone, “Why didn’t you dodge?”
Luo Lin responded gloomily, “I thought Sister wouldn’t hurt me…”
Sheng Nuan coughed awkwardly. “Well, you’re not hurt, right? And… it was kind of fun, haha.”
Finally, she couldn’t hold back anymore and burst out laughing… The way Luo Lin had moved stiffly back to the fire reminded her so much of the zombies from ‘Plants vs. Zombies’.
As she laughed, Luo Lin’s expression became even more filled with silent grievance. She quickly stifled her laughter and pull her hand back. “Okay, all clean now. You know… that yellow stuff actually smells kind of nice.”
She leaned closer to sniff Luo Lin’s hair. “Sweet and fragrant.”
As Sheng Nuan leaned in, Luo Lin’s body stiffened slightly… The tips of his ears turned a faint red, but he didn’t move away. Instead, he lowered his head and obediently remained still, letting her take a whiff.
When Sheng Nuan mentioned the scent, the corners of Luo Lin’s lips lifted slightly.
But then Sheng Nuan patted her hands together and said, “Alright, driving all day was tiring. I’m off to bed.”
Luo Lin’s expression froze, and he watched as Sheng Nuan turned and climbed into her tent without looking back.
He felt it probably wasn’t just his imagination… Sheng Nuan seemed to care less about him than before.
Why was that?
Was it because he had been too cold toward her before? Or had she really taken a liking to Qin Yu?
He remembered hearing people in the convoy mention that Sheng Nuan had seemed interested in Qin Yu before… The day Qin Yu left, she did indeed look somewhat lost and melancholic.
Luo Lin furrowed his brows slightly…
Sheng Nuan, immersed in the joy of her mission nearing completion, had driven so fast during the day that now, lying down, she finally felt the ache in her bones. Hugging her blanket, she quickly fell asleep.
With customer service around, she slept very peacefully.
She wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but in her drowsy state, she felt someone lie down beside her… Customer service didn’t alert her, so she guessed it was Luo Lin. Sheng Nuan was so sleepy that she didn’t care about anything, so she subconsciously shifted over to make space for him.
Beside her, Luo Lin froze for a moment.
So… was she avoiding him?
Luo Lin pursed his lips and lay down quietly. The person next to him, who used to insist on helping him change and sleep beside him, was now fast asleep, not even bothering to acknowledge him.
After a pause, Luo Lin slowly edged closer to Sheng Nuan.
The faint firelight outside the tent cast a dim glow inside, and Luo Lin quietly gazed at Sheng Nuan’s scarred face, his eyes reflecting a hint of distress.
When he was in dire straits, his father’s loyal subordinates had protected him, and later, he met her who kept him safe throughout their journey… But when she had fallen into hardship, he wondered if anyone had been there to help her.
With scars like these, she must not have had the healing spring at that time. How much pain she must have endured…
Thinking of this, Luo Lin felt a pang of regret in his heart.
He shouldn’t have been so guarded and distant with her before. Perhaps that was why she felt hurt and began to distance herself from him.
Thinking of this, Luo Lin slowly inched closer and whispered, “Sister, I’m so cold…”
Sheng Nuan murmured a response and turned over.
Luo Lin’s breath caught, a bit nervous, and a little shy… Although he had no experience, but if she wanted to, he was willing.
Seeing Sheng Nuan, eyes still closed, reach out toward him, Luo Lin pursed his lips and was about to lean in. But in the next instant… whoosh—two thick blankets were thrown over his head, covering him completely and snugly.
Luo Lin froze in place
After a long moment, he slowly pulled down the blanket, revealing a face with a completely blank expression…
She had really changed…
