The next day on the road, Sheng Nuan noticed something seemed off with Luo Lin. He sat silently in the passenger seat, looking out the window with sad eyes.
She was a bit confused. “Do you have something on your mind?”
Luo Lin slowly turned to look at her. “Do you still care?”
Sheng Nuan was puzzled. “What?”
What are you talking about?
Luo Lin let out a self-mocking laugh and turned away, ignoring her.
So much for saying she fell in love with him at first sight—women really are fickle!
That afternoon, the two of them stopped for a break to eat something… Before long, several military jeeps roared up and parked not far from where they were resting.
Upon seeing the wolf head emblem on the vehicles, Luo Lin’s expression tightened slightly.
Sheng Nuan understood perfectly in her heart but showed no sign of it on her face. She casually remarked, “So that’s the legendary Silver Wolf Army… they’re really impressive.”
Luo Lin responded with a low hum.
Though still seated, Luo Lin discreetly kept an eye on them. At that moment, a man stepped out of one of the vehicles, a middle-aged man with a square, authoritative face, wearing a uniform distinct from the others.
He was an officer, and Luo Lin happened to recognize him.
The officer was named Ying Qingfeng, who had once been a loyal follower of Luo Lin’s father… but whether he was still a loyal follower now remained uncertain.
Luo Lin suddenly spoke. “Sister, I haven’t told you much about my background, have I?”
Sheng Nuan looked at him. “Huh?”
Luo Lin gazed at her and began to speak calmly, “I come from the Alliance Base…”
He then proceeded to tell Sheng Nuan about his identity and how both he and his father had been betrayed.
After hearing Luo Lin’s story, Sheng Nuan hesitated for a moment before cautiously asking, “Why are you telling me this now?”
Luo Lin glanced at the row of military vehicles across from him. “Because I’m going to find that man now… I’m not sure if he’s still as loyal as he once was.”
He paused before continuing, “If all goes as expected, I’ll enter the Silver Wolf Army base with him. The Silver Wolf Army is currently under the command of Vice Commander Zhou Zekai. While my father was the Marshal in name, he has already passed away, and Zhou Zekai has been in charge for several years. I don’t know what my circumstances will be like when I go there this time…”
Luo Lin didn’t know if Zhou Zekai would be pleased or worried that he was still alive, nor could he tell how many of his father’s once loyal soldiers were left.
Looking at Sheng Nuan, Luo Lin spoke gently, “I’m telling Sister this to let you know that the dangers ahead are unknown. There’s no need for you to keep risking yourself with me.”
Sheng Nuan was taken aback, but without hesitation, she replied, “No way! Since we know there’s danger, I have even more reason to go. At the very least, I need to ensure you can stay safe there.”
More importantly, her mission required her to deliver Luo Lin to the Silver Wolf Army base… she had to get him inside!
Seeing Sheng Nuan’s unwavering resolve, Luo Lin’s eyes softened with a smile. “Alright, we’ll go together… don’t worry, Sister, I’ll protect you.”
After a moment, Luo Lin stood up and walked directly toward the Silver Wolf Army’s camp. Once he crossed the fifty-meter mark, Sheng Nuan could no longer sense anything and could only watch from a distance.
She saw Luo Lin appear in front of the officer, who initially looked skeptical. In the next moment, the officer suddenly froze, then took a few steps forward to examine him closely before finally pulling Luo Lin into a tight embrace.
Meanwhile, Sheng Nuan received confirmation from customer service that this officer, Ying Qingfeng, was indeed one of the few who remained fiercely loyal to Luo Bei. Luo Lin was lucky to run into him just as he neared the Silver Wolf Army base.
Alas, who let her be a Lucky Koi…
Thanks to this, Sheng Nuan and Luo Lin were able to smoothly enter the Silver Wolf Army base with Ying Qingfeng’s help.
The Silver Wolf Army base truly lives up to its reputation as one of the most powerful bases in the post-apocalyptic world. A fortress encircled the city, with heavy firepower and evolvers standing guard, making it an impregnable fortress.
Once inside, Ying Qingfeng took Luo Lin to meet Vice Commander Zhou Zekai, while Sheng Nuan was politely escorted to a separate room to rest.
As soon as she was alone, customer service cheered: “Congratulations, Host! The mission is complete!”
The original host had requested to become strong and independent. While Sheng Nuan might not be considered exceptionally powerful, she had no problem protecting herself and living independently.
Luo Lin had also recovered and safely reached the Silver Wolf Army base… the rest no longer concerned her.
Glancing at the luxurious fruit platter beside her, a rare sight in the apocalypse, Sheng Nuan skewered a piece of watermelon with a toothpick and ate it while chatting with customer service about the base’s current situation.
Vice Commander Zhou Zekai had been managing the Silver Wolf Army base ever since Luo Bei was stationed at the Alliance Base. When the incident involving Luo Bei occurred, several soldiers demanded accountability from the Alliance Base, but Zhou Zekai had suppressed those calls.
In Zhou Zekai’s words, Luo Nan was Luo Bei’s younger brother, and the relationship between the brothers had always been very good. No one wanted to see something happen to the Marshal.
Later, Zhou Zekai sent a few people to the Alliance Base, and when they returned, the news they brought back was that it was indeed just an accident.
The soldier in question had only been lightly scratched and hadn’t been detected for contamination upon entering the base, which eventually led to the unfortunate incident…
As for Luo Lin, he voluntarily sacrificed his spirit core to save his father, but he succumbed to severe injuries from the procedure.
Sheng Nuan quickly guessed that, regardless of how many people in the Silver Wolf Army base remained loyal to Luo Bei’s heir, Luo Lin, Vice Commander Zhou Zekai was certainly not among them.
She wasn’t too concerned, though. Luo Lin’s enlightenment ability was practically a cheat code. Whether or not he could exact revenge, his safety was definitely not a problem.
As for revenge, if Luo Lin couldn’t achieve it, there was little Sheng Nuan could do to help… She didn’t think she was omnipotent.
With this in mind, Sheng Nuan decided that once Luo Lin met with Zhou Zekai, she would bid him farewell and leave, then start her peaceful life as a happy and carefree doomsday farmer…
At this moment, Luo Lin had no idea that Sheng Nuan had already made up her mind to leave.
In the luxurious and spacious office, he sat with Zhou Zekai, the vice commander of the Silver Wolf Army base, who looked at him with eyes full of relief and satisfaction.
The two had just finished reminiscing about their long-awaited reunion. Zhou Zekai expressed great joy and relief over Luo Lin’s survival, while simultaneously showing strong indignation and condemnation towards Luo Nan’s treachery and viciousness.
However, when Zhou Zekai heard Luo Lin mention wanting to take revenge for his father, he let out a sigh.
“Luo Lin, your father handed over the Silver Wolf Army to me so that I could defend the north and ensure humanity’s last chance for survival…”
A cold glint flashed in Luo Lin’s eyes.
Handed over?
The military seal of the Silver Wolf Army was still in his possession. His father had only temporarily placed the army under Vice Commander Zhou Zekai’s command… yet now, in Zhou Zekai’s words, it had been “handed over” to him.
It might seem like just a difference in words, but the implications were worlds apart.
Temporary custodianship implies that when the rightful owner returns, the power must be returned… But if it’s “handed over,” that suggests Zhou Zekai believes the Silver Wolf Army now belongs to him…
