Reasonable Loss - 17
Eunsoo entered the hospital as usual today. Riding the elevator and pressing the top floor, he checked his phone. There were no special messages. For example, a message saying Dokwon had returned ‘safely’. He wondered if there had been any contact from Myeong-hee, Ki-ho, or Dokwon.
He knew it was a similar expectation. It hadn’t even been twelve hours, so how much could have changed. Still, maybe, just maybe, something had changed even a little, even just as much as a fingernail. Perhaps a brief memory had come to mind. The hope was something he couldn’t let go of.
The door to the hospital room was open. It was unclear whether the doctor had just been there or if a visitor had arrived.
In case it was an important visitor, Eunsoo peeked into the room. He saw Dokwon half-lying on the bed, with a man standing in front of him. He was wearing a neat suit, not as tall as Dokwon but fairly tall, with a familiar hairstyle.
Eunsoo’s lips curled up slightly.
It was Dokwon’s secretary. Since he managed Dokwon’s daily affairs, Eunsoo was familiar with him. And, envy aside, having spent ten years with Dokwon, their bond was still strong, whether before losing his memory or now.
As Eunsoo observed the atmosphere between the two, he was about to step into the hospital room. Dokwon suddenly looked towards the door. It was as if he had heard Eunsoo’s footsteps that were barely audible.
Eunsoo awkwardly smiled and raised his hand. Dokwon didn’t react at all. Eunsoo realized from his cold gaze that he still didn’t remember him at all. Normally, he wouldn’t have looked at him so coldly.
Unable to hide his disappointment, Eunsoo quickly lowered his hand. Dokwon didn’t take his eyes off him. Secretary Jung, noticing Eunsoo, turned his head towards the door and upon seeing Eunsoo, flashed a bright smile.
That smile somehow warmed Eunsoo’s heart. He entered the hospital room. Secretary Jung also cheerfully led Eunsoo into the room.
“Hello, Secretary Jung.”
Eunsoo nodded.
“Hello, Team Leader Yoo.”
Secretary Jung also nodded. He took a step closer to Eunsoo. Lowering his handsome eyebrows, he expressed concern.
“Are you feeling okay? I came right after the accident, but I had a lot of work to handle on behalf of the CEO, so I couldn’t visit the hospital until now. I received the news that you were discharged.”
“Oh, yes. I wasn’t seriously injured… I’m fine.”
“But it was a traffic accident.”
“Well… Sometimes my body aches like an old man.”
Eunsoo imitated an old man by tapping his back without bending his spine. Secretary Jung covered his mouth and chuckled. Eunsoo also chuckled with a twinkle in his eye.
Dokwon stared at them intently. The sunlight streaming in through the window clung to Eunsoo. His round forehead, neatly folded eyelids, and lips with a pretty curve made it hard to look away. His gentle smile seemed so pure.
The more he looked at his face, the more it hurt his head. Dokwon pressed his temples with his thumb and index finger.
“What about the child?”
Secretary Jung asked Eunsoo.
“They said it’s fine in this hospital. I haven’t been to a specialized obstetrics and gynecology department yet, but… Oh, I remembered, I should go today.”
Eunsoo gently stroked his belly over his coat. Since it was early in the pregnancy, he had heard that he needed to be careful. He didn’t hear what he needed to be careful about. Before it was too late, he had to go to the obstetrics and gynecology department today.
“Should I drive you there?”
Secretary Jung subtly offered. Sometimes when Dokwon had work, he would take Eunsoo to him, or he would take Eunsoo to meet him at home. So, it was nothing out of the ordinary. Moreover, it was the obstetrics and gynecology department, not somewhere else, so it felt a bit awkward to send her alone.
However, Eunsoo shook his head hesitantly.
“I can’t… I can’t drive.”
