Reasonable Loss - 42
Seongheon mimicked Eunsoo’s tone and laughed. Eunsoo forced a smile. If they had met under normal circumstances, she would have been thrilled to see him. The current situation, where that wasn’t possible, was frustrating.
“You must be overwhelmed these days, right? Because Dokwon is sick.”
Seongheon asked.
“Ah… well… just…”
Eunsoo hesitated in her reply. She had been asked by Myunghee and Kiho to keep Dokwon’s injuries and current condition completely secret. Especially his memory issues. It was clear that revealing them would only create chaos at the company.
But since Seongheon was Dokwon’s relative, maybe it was okay to tell him. If so, he would guide her on how to endure and navigate through the situation, as he always did.
But the fact that he still didn’t know meant that Myunghee and the family hadn’t said anything to him.
So Eunsoo decided to keep quiet about Dokwon’s condition as well.
“The surgery went well, and he’s recovering.”
“Well, he’s an Alpha. He should get better soon. Still, it’s surprising. Dokwon seems to be human after all.”
“…Yes?”
Eunsoo tilted her head at the strangely odd remark. Seongheon chuckled and shrugged.
“No, he’s a dominant Alpha. I thought he wouldn’t get injured even if he collided with a car.”
“Ah…”
Eunsoo expressed vague admiration. Yes, Seongheon was a Beta. Betas, who don’t know what Alphas and Omegas are, often regarded them as an entirely different species. Omegas were less affected, but the prejudice against Alphas was strong.
With good looks, intelligence, and a healthy body, they were objects of both admiration and envy.
“Anyway, I’m glad you’re okay. You didn’t get seriously injured.”
“Thanks to Dokwon.”
“…Thanks to?”
“Yes. During the accident, Dokwon held me, so I’m fine, but Dokwon got seriously hurt.”
“…Dokwon?”
Seongheon’s eyes widened. He blinked repeatedly. His expression was completely out of character for his sophisticated image. He seemed to be greatly shocked.
After a few seconds of silent amazement, he ended with a soft laugh.
“Wow… I heard rumors while I was in the U.S., but it seems Dokwon really likes you.”
“Yes. It seems so.”
Eunsoo nodded, smiling faintly. Even though she had been chased away by Dokwon just an hour ago, she couldn’t help but smile. What could she do if she truly liked him?
The two years she spent building a life with him were precious to her, and she had no intention of resenting or hating him for things he didn’t even say.
Eunsoo tapped her knee with her fingertips, and her phone, which she had thrown into a box, clanged loudly against the mug. Eunsoo picked up the phone with a puzzled expression. Who could it be at this hour…
The caller was someone she hadn’t expected at all.
“Is this Eunsoo Yoo’s phone?”
“Did you get home safely?”
“Sorry about today.”
“I’ve never experienced pain in my life, so I’m not immune to headaches.”
“Let’s have a meal together this weekend.”
It was Dokwon.
