Rebirth: I Am the Wealthy Family (GL) - Chapter 17
Chen Qianyǔ held up the medical kit, then pointed at Gu Míngzhū’s right little finger and said: “Your hand is injured, do you want me to put some medicine on it for you? It will heal faster this way!” As Chen Qianyǔ spoke, her eyes were fixed on Gu Míngzhū, trying not to miss any expression on her face. However, to her disappointment, Gu Míngzhū merely gave a casual smile and shrugged: “Qianyǔ, I don’t think I need your medicine. No, thank you, but I still appreciate it. All set, is there anything else?”
Gu Míngzhū quickly hid the medicine bottle in her hand, preventing Chen Qianyǔ from seeing it. Her movement was very secretive, successfully evading Chen Qianyǔ’s gaze.
“No, no, nothing else!”
Chen Qianyǔ disappointedly held the medical kit, preparing to leave.
“Your hand…”
Gu Míngzhū suddenly noticed that Chen Qianyǔ’s hand was red, clearly scalded.
“What happened? I remember your hand was fine when we were at Yīdù.”
Gu Míngzhū stepped forward and took Chen Qianyǔ’s hand to examine it. It was the first time Chen Qianyǔ was held by Gu Míngzhū. Her hand was very cold, yet holding it made her feel so secure, just like how her sister used to hold her hand. Gu Míngzhū lowered her head, carefully checked her hand, and gently blew on it.
“Ruănruăn, don’t cry. Sister will blow on it, and it won’t hurt anymore!”
She remembered that when she was little, once at the orphanage during mealtime, she accidentally got scalded by another child’s porridge while scrambling for food, and she burst into tears.
Life at the orphanage was not as good as society advertised. In their era, many children struggled to get enough to eat. So, whenever a meal started, everyone rushed to grab food. For example, with porridge, if you were first, you could get a thicker portion; later on, it became thinner and thinner, until eventually, it was just water.
That time, she was scalded while rushing for porridge. Actually, the porridge wasn’t very hot; she was just upset about not getting the porridge and breaking her bowl. Bowls at the orphanage were rationed. If one broke, asking for another would surely lead to a scolding from the administrative auntie, and perhaps even a beating. At that time, they feared the administrative aunties the most. Offending them meant trouble. So, she was afraid, and her hand hurt, so she cried loudly. At that time, Chen Qianyǔ blew on her hand just as Gu Míngzhū was doing now.
“Sister…”
She inadvertently called out.
Gu Míngzhū suddenly looked up: “Sister…?”
Chen Qianyǔ finally realized her slip-up. Her identity could not be known by anyone.
“No, I was just thinking of my sister. When she was alive, her hand got scalded, and I also blew on it like this. It’s just a scene-evoked memory. Director Gu, since your hand is fine, I’ll take my leave now.” Chen Qianyǔ realized she couldn’t stay here any longer.
Gu Míngzhū continued to lean against the door, smiling, “Qianyǔ, you seem to be very concerned about your sister, but the dead cannot be brought back to life. No matter how sad you are, your sister probably wouldn’t be happy about it.”
“Really? Would she be unhappy?”
Chen Qianyǔ turned back to ask Gu Míngzhū.
Gu Míngzhū shrugged again: “I don’t know, I’m not your sister. I’m sorry, I don’t have any siblings. I’m an only child. I truly regret that I can’t empathize with the bond between you and your sister.”
Chen Qianyǔ said no more, just turned and left. Yes, how many people in this world could understand the sisterly bond they had, relying on each other for twenty-five years? And how many could understand the depth of feeling where they would even sacrifice their lives for each other?
Returning to the room, Chen Qianyǔ opened the medical kit by herself and unexpectedly found a black envelope inside.
“Hmm, what is this…”
Chen Qianyǔ curiously opened it. These days, she had been living in her sister’s apartment, almost turning over everything in her room, hoping to find a clue to who murdered her sister.
She opened the black envelope. Inside was a disc. She opened her laptop and put the disc in.
At first, there was nothing, just a blank screen. Just as Chen Qianyǔ was about to close it, an image appeared on the computer screen. The picture was very blurry, but she still recognized one person. That person was Mr. Qín—the one who threw away Ā Hé’s business card when she attended the opening event at Xiāng Hú Lake, the one from Míngzhū Group. He seemed to be talking to a man. The sound was very noisy. Then the screen was filled with static. After that, there was nothing. At the very end, a person’s silhouette appeared; she had never seen this person before.
“Why would my sister hide this envelope in the medical kit?”
Suddenly, a thought occurred to her.
“Ruănruăn, remember, my medical kit is hidden right here. You’re the only one in the world who knows where I keep my medical kit, no one else knows.”
She remembered once when she came back and moved in with her sister, Chen Qianyǔ personally took out the medical kit and told her, and then hid it. Her medical kit was actually built into the bed; someone who didn’t know wouldn’t discover it.
“Could this be a hint from my sister? Mr. Qín? That man…?”
Her impression of Mr. Qín was very poor. Could he be the killer of her sister? She thought about it and decided it was unlikely. Because when she attended the opening event last time, Mr. Qín even tried to get to know her and showed no surprise upon seeing her. What did that mean?
Her mind was a jumble. She thought about it and put the items back where they were, planning to thoroughly investigate Mr. Qín tomorrow.
The next day soon arrived. Ā Hé came to pick her up early. Today was the commencement ceremony for Renjian Sizheyue Tian (April Day in the Human World), and all the main creative personnel would be present, Chen Qianyǔ included. Today, she wore a snow-white chiffon dress, embracing a fresh and artistic style.
Upon arriving at the scene, Ān Xī was already there, as was Bái Guǎnghán. Ān Xī was going over the script with Bái Guǎnghán, while Sū Báiyè was watching the two of them with an amused expression.
“It really is the bond of husband and wife. Even I, Xú Zhìmó, am getting jealous.” Sū Báiyè laughed.
Ān Xī then looked up and faced Sū Báiyè: “Look, your Lù Xiǎomàn is here too.”
Zhāng Xī appeared with her assistant. She also smiled politely at everyone, including Chen Qianyǔ, and even greeted her. The entire crew seemed harmonious. This was not surprising. There were reporters everywhere at the commencement ceremony today. If they were photographed looking discordant, the media would probably make a big deal out of it. No one wanted to be in the news for this reason.
“Everyone is here so early. It looks like I’m the latest.” Cóng Kūn appeared, holding a little girl.
The little girl had big eyes and a round face. She widened her eyes when she saw people, staring at them.
“Daddy, because you overslept, I’m the last one to arrive. Táo Táo is unhappy!”
