Reborn as a Scummy Alpha, I Became Every Heroine's Obsession (GL) - Chapter 12
Feng Jiying’s explanation was overly serious.
As if Gu Qiqi would actually misunderstand her.
Right now, Gu Qiqi wore an expression like a cartoon monkey—completely speechless, with a bead of sweat forming on her forehead.
But watching Feng Jiying act so serious and proper for no reason made Gu Qiqi suddenly want to mess with her.
She rested her chin in one hand and pretended to think deeply. After a long pause, she finally said, “So, what you’re saying, President Feng… are you trying to hide something?”
Feng Jiying: “?”
Gu Qiqi went on without waiting for a reply. “There’s a saying—if you explain too much, you’re probably hiding something, and if you’re hiding it, it might as well be true. You’re still in your sensitivity period. And as an Omega with more than 90 percent genetic compatibility with me, it’s only natural that you’d be affected by my pheromones. But you’ve always hated being influenced by things like that.”
She narrowed her eyes slightly. “So even if you are affected, you’d never admit it. Which means…”
Feng Jiying’s flawless face tightened. Her brows furrowed, and her fingers dug into the leather car seat with a quiet intensity.
Gu Qiqi leaned in with mock seriousness. “So in a sense, doesn’t that mean you’ve already fallen in love with me? But to convince yourself otherwise, you keep saying the opposite. It’s like psychological self-defense—to stop that feeling, already rooted deep inside you, from growing out of control.”
Even Gu Qiqi cringed at the words coming out of her mouth. They were unbelievably cheesy.
But it was worth it—Feng Jiying looked absolutely mortified.
Her lips parted slightly, like she was about to say something, but no words came out. Her normally pale face now showed a faint and confused mix of color—like she didn’t know whether to blush or turn green.
Gu Qiqi grinned and went in for the final blow.
She reached out, gently pressed a finger to Feng Jiying’s lips, and gave her a smug little wink.
“I know what you want to say, President Feng,” she said smoothly. “But sometimes, hearts understand each other without words.”
The car’s onboard AI, Hanhan, chimed in with a flat, robotic voice.
“President, I can’t take this anymore. I feel like throwing up.”
Feng Jiying managed to keep her expression somewhat composed, but her whole presence gave off an air of barely-contained frustration.
It was obvious she was losing control.
Years of strict discipline were the only thing keeping her from snapping.
When she finally spoke, her tone was cold and laced with gritted teeth. “Are all people from the outer districts this full of themselves?”
Gu Qiqi waved her hand lazily and raised an eyebrow. “Oh, so you do know that’s called being full of yourself? Then why did you assume I thought you were trying to impress me the moment I got in the car? I never said that. You people from the central city really are the narcissistic ones.”
She smirked and added, “I was just giving you a taste of your own medicine. I thought you didn’t even realize how annoying you were being.”
Feng Jiying was rarely at a loss for words. Her status meant that few ever argued with her, and even fewer dared to challenge her head-on.
But now, she narrowed her long, almond-shaped eyes and studied Gu Qiqi with quiet intensity.
“You don’t seem like someone who grew up in the outer districts,” she said.
People from the outer districts were easy to spot. Their eyes were always shifty and unsure. They lived in the shadows of the city, cut off from light and hope. When they looked at those from the central city, it was with awe, as if seeing gods. They felt unworthy—always trying to hide their rough, dirty lives.
Gu Qiqi asked calmly, “Then what do you think someone from the outer districts is really supposed to be like, President Feng?”
Feng Jiying’s fingers twitched slightly, but she didn’t answer.
Gu Qiqi didn’t look at her. Instead, she turned to the window, eyes fixed on the passing scenery as she spoke in a quiet, emotionless tone.
“Is it because I’m not like the others from the outer districts? Because I don’t worship the central city? Because I don’t go out of my way to flatter you? Because I don’t treat you like some divine figure? Because I don’t grovel at your feet like I’m some worthless insect?”
“To the people from the outer districts, the central city is the center of power and politics. Their lives are so bitter, so hopeless, that they start fantasizing about someone or something coming to save them. But their vision is so limited, their minds so deprived, they can’t even imagine what salvation would look like.”
Gu Qiqi suddenly turned her head, her eyes calm but unwavering as she looked straight at Feng Jiying.
“So tell me. Are all of you in the central city this pathetic? The outer district people put you up on a pedestal, and you start thinking you’re above everyone else. You look down on others like they’re beneath you. And the moment someone ignores you, you scramble for attention like your existence depends on it.”
The car’s AI, Hanhan, was so stunned by Gu Qiqi’s words that its display flickered with glitches.
Feng Jiying was silent.
Gu Qiqi’s lips curled into a faint smile. “Yes, I’m from the outer districts. But I’ve never been ashamed of where I come from. People from the central city are human, and so are people from the outer districts. I’ve never seen myself as any different.”
“Before gender differentiation, we were the same. After gender differentiation, we’re still the same. I’m not interested in the Feng family’s wealth. I’m not interested in you. I’m not interested in the federal government. I have my own life, and I’ll be the one to decide how I live it.”
Feng Jiying’s gaze drifted back to her without warning, as if drawn by a force she couldn’t resist. Even when she tried to look away, her eyes wouldn’t move.
No one understood Gu Qiqi’s position better than Feng Jiying.
In the central city, having no family background was like being a rootless weed. You floated wherever the powerful directed you, with no control over your path.
But right now, Gu Qiqi’s eyes were frighteningly bright—burning with quiet strength and determination.
She hadn’t released a hint of spiritual pressure, yet somehow Feng Jiying found herself drawn in, subtly affected. It was like her very thoughts were being influenced, even persuaded.
Feng Jiying had always been a strict realist. Logical, methodical, grounded. She never fantasized, and never changed her stance for small, uncertain possibilities. She only believed in absolute outcomes and guaranteed success.
But in this moment, she hesitated.
Gu Qiqi continued, “Whether you believe me or not, that’s your choice. But that’s how I see things. So you really don’t have to be so guarded around me. I’m not interested in pheromones, genetic compatibility, or any of that.”
“If it were up to me, I’d rather you just see me as a partner. Haven’t you ever read those old human novels? The ones where people rent a girlfriend to keep up appearances?”
“It’s the same thing. Just for show.”
Feng Jiying murmured softly, “Hmm…”
She had already turned her head, gazing out the window, her long lashes casting shadows that hid her expression completely.
Gu Qiqi wasn’t sure if Feng Jiying had truly listened to her or not.
…
Although it was called a banquet, in reality, it was nothing more than a gathering of the wealthy elite—those who controlled ninety percent of the nation’s wealth—mingling with political families.
Young Alphas and Omegas were expected to attend these events for genetic pairing, to contribute to the strength and legacy of their respective families.
Gu Qiqi wore a blue-and-white gradient shirt paired with tailored ankle-length trousers. The top two buttons of her shirt were left undone, revealing her slender neck and defined collarbones. Around her neck was a gene-suppression collar, clearly out of place with the rest of her look. A small pendant on the collar swayed gently with her every step.
Her usually wild wolf-cut hairstyle was more disciplined tonight. Soft, wispy bangs were brushed neatly to one side, framing her sharp and handsome features.
She looked like a rebellious young wolf that had been groomed just enough to appear tame—yet still gave off an unmistakable aura of defiance.
Her build was lean and athletic. Clothes fit her well, flattering her frame without hiding the natural lines of muscle underneath. She wasn’t bulky or overly muscular, just strong and balanced.
Most Omegas preferred this kind of Alpha.
So when Gu Qiqi entered the hall, several Omegas immediately turned to look, eyes lighting up with curiosity and admiration.
But the moment they noticed the person holding her arm, their expressions dimmed.
It was Feng Jiying.
No one had the courage to flirt with someone who belonged to Feng Jiying.
Feng Jiying, as calm and poised as ever, wore a floor-length gown that mirrored Gu Qiqi’s outfit in a cool gradient of white and blue. She looked icy and untouchable, like a flower blooming in the snow—beautiful but unreachable.
She and Gu Qiqi looked striking standing together.
But behind the lenses of her gold-rimmed glasses, her eyes were slightly distant, unfocused.
Gu Qiqi had actually called her pathetic.
At that moment, Liu Huaiqing walked over, holding two glasses of champagne. He approached Gu Qiqi directly.
“Thank you for saving my sister the other day,” he said with genuine gratitude. “I can’t imagine what would’ve happened to her if you hadn’t stepped in at the academy.”
Feng Jiying’s eyes slowly moved to the champagne glasses in Liu Huaiqing’s hands.
A central city elite offering a drink to someone from the outer district?
How low.
She wanted to see, would Gu Qiqi accept it?
