Reborn as a Scummy Alpha, I Became Every Heroine's Obsession (GL) - Chapter 24
On the surface, the monthly ability competition at the Alpha Division of Military Academy 330 seemed like a regular training event.
But in reality, it was a discreet matchmaking gathering arranged by the upper class—an unofficial social event meant to facilitate political marriages between alphas and omegas.
To prevent alphas from being affected by omega pheromones, every omega was required to receive an inhibitor injection in advance.
They also had to wear pheromone-suppressing patches over the glands on the back of their necks.
This kind of regulation left many omegas feeling deeply unfairly treated. After all, it was the alphas who lost control like wild animals when triggered by pheromones. And once that happened, omegas had no way to resist.
If an alpha lost control and forcibly marked an omega, that omega would lose their freedom forever.
Yet even under those circumstances, it was always the omegas who were strictly controlled.
And if an omega did get hurt, public opinion often turned against them.
Victim-blaming was rampant.
Many believed the omega had failed to suppress their scent properly, that it was their fault for “tempting” the alpha—whether intentionally or not.
So even though most omegas had no interest in participating in these so-called matchups, Military Academy 330 made it mandatory. Refusal wasn’t an option.
Meanwhile, the number of omegas in Central City continued to decline.
To stabilize the growing unrest among alphas, the Federal Government began secretly transporting omegas from the outer districts into the city.
On paper, these omegas were given Central City identities.
But those familiar with the system knew exactly which omegas were from the outer zones.
And the alphas who knew? They didn’t respect those omegas at all.
There were even some omegas from the outskirts who intentionally exposed their pheromones at the events—just to catch the attention of a powerful alpha and marry into wealth.
In Central City, alphas valued education. They needed elite degrees and prestigious backgrounds to maintain their family status and uphold their lineage’s pride.
But for omegas, the best outcome was marrying a high-ranking, well-connected alpha.
That’s why most omegas in Central City didn’t prioritize education. Those sent to Military Academy 330 were often there to learn how to become perfect wives for the upper class.
Some omegas kept their enrollment status at the academy but had already moved on to work in their respective fields.
For example, Feng Jiying had already started managing her family’s businesses and assets.
Liu Huaiqing had begun studying law during middle school. By the time she entered university, she had already passed the bar exam and was working as a lawyer.
Wen Rui, though still officially listed as a student at 330, was already working in the academy’s medical department.
The school kept these omega names on the books mostly to inflate its reported omega population.
The award ceremony was being held on a large open-air sports field on campus.
Standing on the award platform, Gu Qiqi scanned the crowd and her eyes landed on Feng Jiying, seated in the VIP section below.
[System]: So, Feng Jiying was scheduled to be at the academy today anyway. She didn’t come just to drop you off. Then why did she pretend to leave after you walked in?
A question that deep? There was no way Gu Qiqi would understand it.
The large sports field was filled with rows of chairs, clearly divided by color—black on one side, white on the other—with a wide empty space in between.
Alphas sat in the black chairs, and omegas sat in the white ones.
That wide strip of space between them looked like an unbridgeable divide, separating the two groups as if they belonged to different worlds.
Song Lin’s face was lit up with excitement. As a beta, this was the most attention he had ever received in his entire life.
The school’s director, principal, and vice principals were all present to personally hand out awards and certificates.
Gu Qiqi stood at the very front of the stage. Her award would be presented by none other than Feng Jiying herself.
Just then, the loudspeakers began enthusiastically praising Feng Jiying.
“In today’s Interstellar Federation era, 80 percent of the economy is powered by the Feng Corporation. The current head of the company is Feng Jiying, the only daughter of the Feng family. We are honored to have her enrolled at Military Academy 330. Representing the omega division, she will now present an award to our youngest and most outstanding alpha, Gu Qiqi, for her fearless bravery in rescuing an endangered omega student from a high-risk zone.”
Down below, the alphas stared at Feng Jiying with greedy, possessive eyes, silently sizing her up, their gazes filled with desire and hunger.
It made her extremely uncomfortable.
Gu Qiqi had never looked at her like that.
As Gu Qiqi looked at the girl now standing in front of her, she raised an eyebrow and leaned in slightly. “President Feng, not busy today? You had time to drop me off this morning, and now you even came all the way back just to hand me an award?”
The metal rims of Feng Jiying’s glasses caught the light, hiding her eyes, but for once, her usually calm face showed a crack in her composure.
“Not your business,” she replied, cold but clearly flustered.
The campus was enormous. The sports field sat like a circular arena at the center, surrounded by trees, with the main buildings forming an outer ring.
Today’s weather was exceptionally clear, the sky bright and still.
Before holding an event like this, the school always made sure to check the physical condition of every student. Whether alpha or omega, anyone entering a sensitive phase would receive a double dose of pheromone suppressants.
Even so, there was already a strange scent lingering faintly in the center of the field.
Once the awards ceremony ended, the alpha ability competition would begin.
Normally, the omega students would return to their classrooms and watch the event through live broadcasts on big screens. They rarely stayed in the field with the alphas, especially during close physical contests.
But just then, something unexpected happened.
An omega suddenly stood up, clutching her chest. Her face flushed deep red, and her body began trembling. A moment later, she collapsed to the ground, shaking uncontrollably.
Her pheromones began to spread quickly through the crowd.
The higher an alpha’s or omega’s rank, the less they were affected by pheromones.
But the weaker the alpha, the easier it was to lose control—to be overtaken by primal instincts.
Instincts to bite. To dominate. To mark the omega giving off that scent.
And for lower-ranked omegas, entering their heat meant instinctively longing to be marked—hoping someone would stop the burning pain inside them.
Wen Rui and Liu Huaiqing were also among the special guests. They sat quietly in the VIP section, watching everything unfolds.
Wen Rui snapped open her delicate folding fan, quickly covering her mouth and nose so no one could see the slight smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
Her pheromone level was high enough that she usually wasn’t affected by alphas—but Gu Qiqi’s pheromones were an exception.
Chaos had already begun to spread across the sports field.
Many alphas were on edge, ready to act.
The presence of alpha pheromones had forced several omegas into heat.
In just a few seconds, the scent of alpha and omega pheromones began flooding the air.
It would only take moments for the entire field to descend into complete disorder.
[System]: Host, if you don’t step in now, this is going to turn into a full-blown public heat riot. If you don’t stop it, you’ll be affected too.
Gu Qiqi had the highest mental strength of any alpha present. Her pheromone level was unmatched. If she released her power fully, she could suppress the alphas on the verge of losing control and also calm the omegas who were being forced into heat.
Wen Cheng stepped up beside her. “You know you’re the only one who can stop this.”
Gu Qiqi frowned. “What’s going on here?”
Feng Jiying also turned, watching the growing chaos. “Someone did this on purpose.”
Wen Cheng glanced at the pheromone-suppressing collar on Gu Qiqi’s neck and was about to speak when Wen Rui interrupted with a laugh.
Still hiding her mouth with her elegant fan, she narrowed her foxlike eyes in amusement. “Qiqi, don’t you know? If you want to release high-level pheromones, you’ll need to take off that collar around your neck. But right now, you and President Feng are in a forced pairing period. Once you remove the collar and release your scent, the effects on her will be a hundred times stronger than usual. Can you really control yourself—or her? Think carefully.”
Wen Cheng shot Wen Rui a sharp glare for adding fuel to the fire.
Gu Qiqi looked at Feng Jiying, standing in front of her.
Feng Jiying said nothing. Her face remained calm, unreadable, with not even a hint of fear.
Liu Huaiqing stood next to Wen Rui, watching every tiny expression on Gu Qiqi’s face.
She wanted to see what choice Gu Qiqi would make.
If she wanted to save everyone, she’d have to risk pushing Feng Jiying into a breakdown.
For an omega, to fall into heat like that—surrounded by alphas—was humiliating beyond words. Losing control, begging for relief, reduced to nothing but a toy driven by instinct. To be stripped of all pride in public like that was worse than death.
Liu Huaiqing wanted to know—did Gu Qiqi really care about Feng Jiying?
Wen Rui suddenly turned to Liu Huaiqing with a sweet smile. “You wouldn’t want Qiqi to end up marking someone else, would you? Her scent has your mating signature all over it. She may not notice it, but I can smell it loud and clear.”
Her voice was sugary, but the words were anything but friendly.
Liu Huaiqing, dressed in a pale blue qipao with a jade bracelet on her wrist, smiled softly and brushed a strand of hair from her cheek. “Miss Wen, what you don’t want doesn’t mean someone else won’t treasure it. Isn’t that, right?”
Tension sparked silently between them.
Feng Jiying, overhearing their conversation, frowned slightly and rubbed her thumb and forefinger together in irritation.
“There’s no time, Gu Qiqi,” Wen Cheng urged. Song Lin, Gu Qingyun, Yun San, and Nan Qi all stood by nervously.
But Gu Qiqi reached out and gently took hold of Feng Jiying’s wrist. Her voice was steady, her gaze unwavering.
“If saving them means hurting you, then you have the right to decide whether we act or not.”
Feng Jiying froze.
Everyone else went quiet.
Gu Qiqi’s eyes were open, honest, and sincere. “I don’t want to be some hero, and I’m not doing this for recognition. If someone planned this chaos, then we’re all just pawns in their game. If we’re pawns, then we’re all victims. I don’t have the right to make this choice for you.”
Feng Jiying’s lips parted slightly. She hadn’t expected Gu Qiqi to say that to not ask for anything in return.
Without a word, she raised her hand and intertwined her fingers tightly with Gu Qiqi’s.
“Do it. I trust you, Gu Qiqi.”
Even if her body lost control under the influence of pheromones, she believed without question that Gu Qiqi would never hurt her.
