As soon as the plane landed, Xie Jingcheng’s family driver arrived to pick them up, his demeanor respectful, even towards Song Qingxing, treating her as if she were the family’s second young mistress.
Song Qingxing had planned to go to the company first.
But then she remembered Xie Jingcheng’s earlier question: Which apartment are you moving to?
Now she could finally give an answer.
“I want to move somewhere closer to the company,” she said. “That way, when I wake up… I might even be able to sleep in a little.”
Because celebrities’ schedules were so demanding, they spent their days rushing between variety show recordings, film shoots, and promotional events.
Many stars chose to catch up on sleep during their car rides.
Song Qingxing was no exception.
During her peak years, the company had flooded her with endless film and television projects, leaving her increasingly exhausted.
“Alright then. Just let me know when you’re done with work, and I’ll have the driver pick you up,” Xie Jingcheng offered. She had no pressing commitments that day; there was a family gathering, but she preferred to stay home, tidy up her apartment, and relax with a few good books rather than endure the noisy crowd.
“Around eight o’clock tonight, I think.”
The two parted ways outside the airport. Song Qingxing got into the company car, its door held open by Xie Jingcheng, who stood outside.
The sunlight was perfect, the weather clear and bright. Song Qingxing still wore her glasses, but compared to the unfamiliarity or even aversion she’d felt in her previous life, a flutter of warmth stirred within her. Xie Jingcheng was truly beautiful, and so gentle with people.
Perhaps it’s not right to trouble her so much.
Every request demanded reciprocation. Song Qingxing twisted her fingers together, more conflicted than she’d ever been in this lifetime. She took a deep breath and opened her eyes.
Song Qingxing, haven’t you already made up your mind?
So-called love and romance were insignificant compared to money. Could love stop her parents from being harassed by debt collectors or cure their illnesses?
Impossible.
Despite feeling awkward, Song Qingxing waved her hand.
“Xie Jingcheng, come here.”
“Hmm?”
“I need to go back to my apartment later. I haven’t been there in a while, and I’m worried about how the cleaning service I hired is doing…”
Before Xie Jingcheng could finish speaking, Song Qingxing grabbed her by the collar, pulling her forward until she tumbled completely into the black van.
Her nose brushed against something soft, warm, and fragrant—an utterly mortifying sensation. Xie Jingcheng’s glasses tilted askew as her cheek pressed against something warm and plush.
A faint milky scent lingered in the air.
Song Qingxing’s hair, straightened for her role, brushed against Xie Jingcheng’s nose, making her want to sneeze.
Fortunately, I’m not sensitive to smells or allergic to pollen, or I’d have made a complete fool of myself.
Xie Jingcheng braced her fingers against the soft leather car seat, preparing to push herself up, when a pair of warm, gentle hands cupped her face.
Thank goodness I didn’t wear a collared shirt today.
Otherwise, she’d definitely be tugging on my tie.
“Song Qingxing… what exactly do you want?”
Before she could finish speaking, soft lips pressed against hers, warm and sweet like a perfectly ripe cantaloupe.
Xie Jingcheng froze for only a moment, then returned the kiss without resistance, deepening it again and again until Song Qingxing could barely keep up.
Good heavens! I only wanted to repay her once.
After all the trouble I’ve caused Xie Jingcheng, a small gift or reward seemed appropriate. But she’s acting like she’s possessed, repeatedly stealing my breath.
Only when her lips were slightly swollen did Xie Jingcheng finally pull away.
The driver had stepped out for a smoke. The drive from the airport to the company would take at least half an hour, and he needed to stay alert. That’s why Song Qingxing had dared to pull her into the car so brazenly.
Xie Jingcheng took out a handkerchief.
Their lipstick had smudged, like the stains left after eating ice cream on a summer day. The handkerchief wiped away faint pink lipstick stains from her lips.
“Next time you want to kiss me, just ask. Doing this in public isn’t appropriate.”
Song Qingxing was speechless.
Song Qingxing had just patted Xie Jingcheng’s back to make her stop, but Xie Jingcheng had completely ignored it.
Now she was acting like a virtuous gentleman.
“It’s not my fault you got carried away with kissing earlier. I even patted you, but you didn’t react at all.”
Song Qingxing wasn’t one to coddle Xie Jingcheng and immediately retorted.
She noticed a change in Xie Jingcheng’s expression, as if she were slightly embarrassed, and immediately shut her mouth. She closed it so quickly that she nearly bit her tongue.
Oh no, oh no!
How could I say such a thing to my sugar daddy?
This is truly unforgivable.
“It was my fault,” Xie Jingcheng unexpectedly admitted.
“I’m sorry.”
“I’ll restrain such impulses in the future.”
After speaking, Xie Jingcheng used a handkerchief to wipe the lipstick from Song Qingxing’s mouth before leaving.
By then, the driver, who had finished his cigarette outside and stood in the breeze for a while, had returned.
The two parted ways.
Song Qingxing got into the car and remained silent the entire ride. Earlier, on the private jet, she had stayed awake out of curiosity. Now, with the gentle rocking and swaying of the nanny van, she soon drifted off to sleep.
But just then, the driver broke the silence.
“Sister Song, are you and Xie Jingcheng really together?”
As expected, even a driver who had spent years immersed in the entertainment industry couldn’t resist asking out of curiosity.
“Pretty much,” Song Qingxing replied. “We’re in a sort of romantic relationship.”
She saw no need to hide the truth, confident that the news would be common knowledge within the industry within two months. Neither she nor Xie Jingcheng were capable of maintaining a low profile.
The public and fans would likely assume it was just publicity for their new film, but that wasn’t the case. They were genuinely together, though their relationship was unconventional, not a typical romance.
The driver paused, momentarily stunned.
“Ah!” he exclaimed in surprise.
“Focus on driving,” Song Qingxing said, exasperated by his reaction. What’s so strange about being someone’s mistress? Isn’t that common in this industry? You’d think he’d be used to it by now.
After all, he wasn’t her personal driver; he was the company’s driver, responsible for transporting all the artists.
“I just never imagined, Sister Song… that you would take this path…” the driver said after a moment’s hesitation.
The Song Qingxing he knew was someone who would swallow her pride and endure anything, never accepting such a twisted relationship.
Yet, this path offered a shortcut to success, potentially saving her over a decade of struggle.
“I didn’t want to either, but I’ve come to realize that rather than dating those sleazy men, it’s better to give myself to Xie Jingcheng,” Song Qingxing said.
“She’s clean, treats me well, and most importantly, can provide the resources I need.”
No…
The most important thing was that Xie Jingcheng was her guarantee for the rest of her life. Even after being reborn, the entertainment industry’s trends shifted too rapidly. Song Qingxing couldn’t be certain she could stay ahead.
So, she needed this long-term “meal ticket.”
Originally, this was just a mutually exploitative relationship. But why had her heart just raced so wildly, beating so erratically, as if she were falling in love?
Song Qingxing pressed her hand against her chest.
Damn it, she cursed inwardly.
Don’t think about it!
Do you want to become love-struck?
Even zombies wouldn’t eat that.
