- Chapter 31 - CEO Novels Always Abuse the Female Lead
After rehearsing scenes all morning, Song Qingxing’s throat felt parched. She poured herself a glass of mineral water, which finally eased the dryness.
“When are you heading to the set for your new drama?”
Xie Jingcheng had plenty of scripts to choose from, but she wasn’t eager to accept any. Good scripts were rare, and frequent acting drained her energy and spirit.
Lately, Xie Jingcheng had been focused on spending quality time with Song Qingxing, hoping to deepen their bond. Dramas could always be filmed later, but if she missed this window with her wife, she might lose her forever.
Xie Jingcheng understood human nature better than Song Qingxing. Though Song Qingxing had repeatedly vowed to renew their ten-year contract as lovers, what if something went wrong?
What if Song Qingxing suddenly fell for someone else? With her fiery temperament, she would undoubtedly demand to terminate their agreement.
Xie Jingcheng couldn’t bear to imagine such a scenario. She had finally found someone she truly cared for, someone she loved—she couldn’t let anyone else steal her away!
“I’m not sure yet. Probably next week.”
“If we wait until summer vacation, when the students are gone, many school campuses will be empty, making location scouting much easier than it is now,” Song Qingxing explained.
The director, striving for authenticity, had specifically chosen an elite private school for filming. However, filming in such a prestigious institution without substantial financial backing would inevitably disrupt its order.
Waiting until vacation was the best course of action. Besides, with the ceremony still in the planning stages, Song Qingxing was content to wait patiently.
“But I still have a few commercials to shoot in Shanghai. After that, I’ll have my driver drop me off at your apartment building,” Song Qingxing added with a smile.
Hearing this, Xie Jingcheng shook her head.
She stood up, closing the distance between them to an almost unbearable closeness. Song Qingxing, thinking Xie Jingcheng was about to kiss her, rose onto her tiptoes, her breath quickening in anticipation.
“What are you expecting?” Xie Jingcheng asked with a smile, reaching out to smooth Song Qingxing’s hair. “I’m not some kiss-obsessed fiend who wants to kiss you every second of every day.”
After straightening Song Qingxing’s collar, Xie Jingcheng felt a sense of helplessness regarding the negative image Song Qingxing had of her.
“I just wanted to tell you not to have your driver take you home. I’ll pick you up.”
This…
Song Qingxing hesitated, torn. Having her sugar daddy pick her up felt like a complete reversal of roles, making her momentarily unsure who was actually being kept.
“Wouldn’t that be too much trouble for you, Young Miss Xie?” Song Qingxing took a step back, maintaining a cautious distance.
People often say, “The land of gentle pleasures is the hero’s tomb.”
Though she wasn’t a hero, she wasn’t exactly known for her iron will either. If Xie Jingcheng treated her too well, Song Qingxing genuinely feared she might lose herself in the relationship.
What if she fell for Xie Jingcheng, only for the other woman to discard her like a used toy, kicking her aside without a second thought? That would be the ultimate tragedy.
“What’s wrong with that?” Xie Jingcheng asked. “If I want to pick you up, I will.”
Though Xie Jingcheng’s expression remained unchanged, anyone with a keen sense could feel the temperature in the air gradually dropping.
The movie queen is truly terrifying! Song Qingxing thought. She can change her face without even moving a muscle.
“Alright, then. You can pick me up whenever you want,” Song Qingxing said, surrendering at lightning speed. She practically slid to her knees, waving the white flag without a shred of hesitation.
As Song Qingxing had predicted, she was swamped with filming these past few days, even staying at the hotel several times. She felt genuinely apologetic about this.
Today, however, she was determined to carve out half a day for herself. After sending out the necessary notifications, Song Qingxing leaned back in her chair, exhausted.
Good heavens!
A diligent little canary like me must be one in a million!
Not only was she struggling to meet her daily workload, but she also had to worry constantly. After all, the resources she’d be asking for in the future wouldn’t be small ones. She just hoped Xie Jingcheng wouldn’t see her as an insatiable woman.
Song Qingxing was filming commercials, which were typically shot in studios. Occasionally, however, they filmed on location.
On-location shoots were far less tedious than studio work, mainly because renting the locations was expensive. Advertising companies always aimed to wrap up filming within a day or two.
“Sister Song, here’s some fresh shaved ice. Just take a few bites and leave the rest to me,” Yu Zhi said, approaching with a small plastic bowl of shaved ice. The weather was scorching hot, and even the portable fans blowing cold air outdoors offered little relief.
Wearing a heavy coat for the shoot made the heat even more unbearable.
“Thank you,” Song Qingxing replied.
Song Qingxing reached out to take the shaved ice, feeling like she’d been rescued. Her assistant, however, trembled slightly.
Yu Zhi was once again stunned.
Though she’d witnessed many changes in recent days, Song Qingxing’s transformation from arrogant and dismissive to remarkably polite and well-mannered was truly astonishing.
“What are you staring at?” Song Qingxing asked, noticing her assistant’s dazed expression.
“Nothing, Sister Song. I just… you’ve changed so much.”
Just a few days ago, Song Qingxing had taken her to that bar she’d always wanted to visit but never could. Now, she was being so kind and gentle, and she hadn’t even argued with the Director. It was truly the strangest thing.
“People change,” Song Qingxing said. “I’ve realized arguing gets me nowhere and only ruins my reputation. What’s the point?”
She wouldn’t preach about “taking the high road,” though. If anyone dared provoke her, she’d still slap them without hesitation. But when working outside, it was best to keep her temper in check.
“That’s true,” Yu Zhi agreed, fully embracing her role as a flatterer. After all, assistants like her were expected to agree with their superiors and simply play along.
As the two chatted amiably, the once-clear sky had quietly darkened.
The torrential downpour gave no one time to react, crashing directly onto the ground and releasing the earthy, pungent smell of wet soil.
The Director immediately ordered the crew to move the most valuable camera equipment under the shelter. Advertising cameras alone cost at least tens of millions of yuan.
Many advertising companies even rented them.
If one were damaged, ordinary people couldn’t afford to pay for it.
Yu Zhi quickly found an umbrella, opened it, and shielded Song Qingxing as they hurried to the shelter. The fierce wind raged, and many stagehands chased after props blown away by the gale.
Sure enough, anyone working outdoors had to rely on the whims of the weather.
Song Qingxing suddenly understood why they sacrificed a large, braised pig’s head to the heavens before filming.
But just then, a figure emerged from the rain-soaked mist. Flanked by two bodyguards in suits, the woman herself wore only a blue shirt.
The black umbrella was large, and one bodyguard’s shoulder was already soaked, yet Xie Jingcheng maintained her elegant composure.
The other bodyguard held the umbrella forward, blocking the fine rain drifting from the front.
Song Qingxing: ……
What a grand entrance! So domineering, just like a CEO in a drama.
Does Xie Jingcheng really have some CEO tendencies? I need to be careful. CEOs always love tormenting the female lead.
