- Chapter 42 - The Film Empress is Very Romantic
“I heard you were really busy earlier and haven’t had time to eat yet. Perfect timing.”
Xie Jingcheng had prepared this specially. She’d noticed Song Qingxing’s poor appetite these past few days, likely due to the heat suppressing her desire to eat.
So she’d ordered takeout from another restaurant known for its delicious food.
She’d also switched hotels to a more luxurious one, ensuring a more comfortable stay.
The new hotel was owned by Xie Jingcheng’s family. Even if something happened there, the Xie Family could easily delete any compromising footage.
“You went all that way just to bring me food?” Song Qingxing felt a surge of warmth.
In her previous life, she’d mostly cooked at home to save money, but not everyone is a skilled chef.
Song Qingxing had a knack for kitchen disasters. She could burn chicken to a crisp while frying it, and her porridge always came out either undercooked or watery, the water ratio always off.
“Of course not just for that.”
Though she knew this would make Song Qingxing even more grateful, Xie Jingcheng chose honesty over flattery.
“The bed at the hotel yesterday wasn’t very good… It kept creaking, and I was afraid it would fall apart, so I switched hotels.”
Xie Jingcheng knew this would sound embarrassing, so she didn’t say it in front of her assistant. Instead, she lowered her head, pressing almost her entire body against Song Qingxing’s arm.
The position was undeniably intimate.
Especially with her lips brushing against Song Qingxing’s earlobe, her breath tickling down her neck and slipping beneath her collar, sending shivers down her spine.
At the same time, a tingling, itchy sensation spread through her chest.
Oh my god, how can this woman be so flirtatious?
Song Qingxing felt awkward, but she didn’t dare offend her Gold Sponsor. She took a few steps forward with Xie Jingcheng before the latter finally pulled away.
“Let’s eat at the set.”
“Eating in the car would make it smell.”
Celebrities often have to eat, drink, and even sleep in their cars to save time. But Xie Jingcheng, with her obsessive cleanliness, would never tolerate such conditions.
“Mm.”
Song Qingxing settled into her seat.
The Director, drawn by the aroma, hurried over. He was desperate to get on Xie Jingcheng’s good side, knowing that securing her investment would not only guarantee funding but also secure the female lead for his next project.
Xie Jingcheng was an actress of exceptional skill. Despite her family’s immense wealth, every award she had won was earned through merit, not purchased. Her privileged background simply afforded her the opportunity for fair competition.
Director Fly rubbed his hands together, as if invisible wings had sprouted from his back, buzzing around the two women.
How could Xie Jingcheng not see through the director’s intentions?
Truth be told, she had no plans to take on any new projects. She was already struggling to manage her existing commitments with her director friends, and meeting a new director would only complicate matters further.
Xie Jingcheng had always been a prized asset for directors.
This was due to her star power, massive following, abundant resources, and willingness to follow the director’s vision. Unlike some A-list actors who insisted on rewriting scripts and forcing their own ideas into the story, she respected the writers and directors’ expertise.
These actors often acted as if they knew better than the writers and authors themselves.
“Director, would you like some too?” Song Qingxing asked, already unwrapping her chopsticks. The packaging was exquisitely designed, with a plum blossom carved along the edges—so delicate it seemed hand-carved rather than machine-made, as if each stroke had been meticulously etched by someone holding the chopstick in their palm.
“If you want some, we can share. I’m not really…”
As soon as Song Qingxing finished speaking, she opened the insulated box, revealing an array of exquisite pastries.
The first thing that caught her eye was several beautifully arranged red shrimp. The box still radiated warmth, indicating she had rushed back immediately after receiving the food.
Most of the pastries were meticulously crafted and low in calories, made with ingredients like pumpkin and cucumber. They were lightly drizzled with sauce, perfectly suited for a low-calorie, fat-loss diet.
“I know you’re trying to maintain your figure, so I prepared these especially for you,” Song Qingxing said.
Xie Jingcheng’s gaze shifted, her deathly stare fixing on the Director.
“Does the Director also need to lose weight like the actresses?”
The Director was instantly speechless, stumbling backward several steps and clearing his throat awkwardly.
“Of course not! What I meant was, Jingcheng, since you’ve been visiting the set these past few days, why not take on a cameo role?”
“Your family is also investing in this production…”
The Director ultimately didn’t voice his true intentions, but getting Xie Jingcheng into the drama would certainly make it easier to approach her later.
After a moment’s thought, Xie Jingcheng considered that she had nothing pressing to do. A cameo role wouldn’t be too much trouble.
“Alright, just find me any role will do. I don’t need a lot of screen time.”
Some actors, eager for fame, often try to add more scenes to dramas, unaware that a good soup shouldn’t be overseasoned—too many ingredients ruin the flavor.
Xie Jingcheng gave a perfunctory agreement.
The director left in high spirits.
Song Qingxing had initially assumed the so-called “fat-loss meal” wouldn’t be particularly delicious. After all, few foods that aid weight loss actually taste good.
But to her surprise, the desserts, though mildly flavored, were light, silky smooth, and incredibly fresh.
Song Qingxing finished them all.
She rarely had such a hearty appetite, so she was quite astonished when she realized she’d eaten everything.
Xie Jingcheng pulled a handkerchief from her pocket, gently flicked it open with her index finger, and wiped the corner of Song Qingxing’s mouth with a tender, doting tone.
“I knew you’d like it.”
“That restaurant is the most famous in the city.”
“Filming is exhausting. You should eat more.”
After wiping away the smudge, Xie Jingcheng tossed the handkerchief into a nearby trash can, and the two slowly made their way back.
Song Qingxing noticed the driver wasn’t heading to yesterday’s hotel. She vaguely recalled that she had switched hotels. As she looked up, she saw towering skyscrapers.
The company had never provided her with such a luxurious suite before.
Of course, if she were the old Song Qingxing, she would have been furious, her hair standing on end, and she would have immediately called the company to demand an explanation.
But yesterday, she didn’t.
Staying in a more expensive hotel meant she’d have to cover the extra costs herself. Better not, she thought. I’ll be here for several months anyway. What else could I save that money for?
Besides, this hotel was already a vast improvement over her cramped rental apartment.
“Follow me,” Xie Jingcheng said, stepping out of the car and leading Song Qingxing to the elevator. Having made prior arrangements, they moved through the hotel without any delays.
The elevator ascended smoothly, and with a ding, they arrived at the top floor.
Unlike the narrow corridors of typical hotels designed to maximize room count, this hotel’s hallway was spacious and grand, lined with lush greenery.
The soft glow of crystal chandeliers cast an intimate ambiance.
There appeared to be only one suite on the entire floor. Xie Jingcheng swiped her keycard, and the heavy wooden door swung open. As they entered, the entire cityscape at night spread before them.
A bathtub stood not far away.
This design… is incredibly romantic, Song Qingxing thought.
