- Chapter 43 - I Was the One Who Pursued Her First
“Are we continuing today?” Song Qingxing asked, her gaze fixed on the large bathtub before her. Erotic thoughts flooded her mind, making her calves feel weak. She was struggling to cope with the situation.
Between filming and indulging in intimate moments with Xie Jingcheng, she felt overwhelmed.
But…
Refusing her Gold Sponsor so openly felt wrong. Torn by indecision, Song Qingxing voiced her question softly, refraining from any further action.
“No,” Xie Jingcheng replied. “One needs a balance of work and rest.”
She shook her head, then reached for the remote on the table. With a gentle press of a button, panels rose around the bathtub, sealing it off.
“The hotel’s glass is special,” Xie Jingcheng explained, gazing at the distant river view. “Those inside can see out, but those outside can’t see in.”
As the panels fully closed, trapping the steam within the glass enclosure, she added, “This way, the steam stays contained instead of fogging up the entire room.”
The design was undeniably elegant and added a touch of romance to the atmosphere.
It seemed a bit of a waste for Xie Jingcheng to book such a luxurious room just for sleeping.
“I’ve had some essential oils prepared. Applying them to your skin will make it even smoother and softer.”
Seeing Song Qingxing still staring blankly, Xie Jingcheng gently flicked her forehead—a light tap, more startling than painful.
“What are you still standing there for? Go take a bath.”
Song Qingxing fidgeted, glancing around before daring to ask Xie Jingcheng, “Have you bathed yet?”
Xie Jingcheng shook her head.
“But don’t worry, I’m not one for sharing baths. Besides, you probably wouldn’t be comfortable with me right now anyway.”
Though Song Qingxing had agreed to spend the night, it was likely only for the sake of resources. To truly unlock this little rabbit’s heart would require an immeasurable amount of time and effort.
But Xie Jingcheng had patience to spare.
“I’ll just be here to help you with the basics.”
If you want someone to warm up to you and eventually like you, persistence is key.
Xie Jingcheng sat nearby, tapping her fingers on the toiletries, her meaning clear: wash your hair first, then soak in the bath.
Song Qingxing couldn’t refuse. Like a doll at someone’s mercy, she began to unbutton her clothes one by one.
Her porcelain-white legs, tinged with a delicate pink, swayed with each step, stirring Xie Jingcheng’s senses. Xie Jingcheng gripped the chair tightly, telling herself she shouldn’t let her thoughts wander.
She had already tasted the forbidden fruit yesterday, hadn’t she?
Today, she needed to restrain herself. Unbridled desire would only frighten Song Qingxing.
Just as she was thinking this, they suddenly heard a commotion outside the door.
“Why can’t I go in?!”
The person’s voice was sharp and piercing, cutting through the thick wooden door and reaching their ears. Song Qingxing jumped in fright, hastily grabbing her discarded clothes and throwing them on. She had barely fastened two buttons when the door was flung open.
Xie Jingcheng’s displeasure was palpable. After all, she had a room key. Logically, only hotel management should possess a spare key. Yet now, the hotel staff had betrayed their employer, giving the key to someone else to open the door.
And to think she had chosen her own family’s hotel, only to find it even less secure.
A tall, elegant woman entered the room, adorned with pearls and jewels, her eyes radiating a captivating allure.
“Xie Jingcheng, is this what you call a business trip?”
Xie Jingcheng stood up, her long legs striding forward to almost completely shield Song Qingxing behind her. Her posture resembled a protective eagle spreading its wings to guard its young.
“My affairs are none of your concern,” Xie Jingcheng said coldly, clearly determined to play the role of protector this time. As the one who had brought Song Qingxing to this hotel, she felt responsible for the incident.
“It’s heartbreaking,” An Wenqing said, stepping closer. “We grew up together. When did we become such strangers?”
The two women stood face-to-face, their gazes locked like the sharpest needles clashing. An Wenqing felt a pang of sorrow. No matter how relentlessly she pursued Xie Jingcheng, no matter how boldly she declared her love, Xie Jingcheng wouldn’t even glance her way.
Yet she had turned around and hooked up with a female celebrity? What right did she have? What did that woman have that An Wenqing lacked? Her family background and looks were far superior, after all.
“Even the best of friends wouldn’t intrude on my relationships,” Xie Jingcheng said, stepping forward to push An Wenqing away.
Xie Jingcheng’s sharp gaze swept over the hotel staff who had followed them.
“Is this how you do things?” she demanded. “Giving a stranger access to hotel room keys?”
“Very well. Summon your manager and owner immediately. I want to hear what excuses you have.”
Xie Jingcheng was furious.
An Wenqing, however, didn’t continue arguing. A glance from the corner of her eye caught sight of Song Qingxing huddled nearby, clutching her clothes. An idea instantly formed in her mind.
If she thoroughly humiliated this woman, she would undoubtedly leave Xie Jingcheng, just like all the male and female celebrities who had tried to pursue Xie Jingcheng before.
She had dealt with them all in the same way.
Having made her decision, An Wenqing subtly shifted her weight and moved toward Song Qingxing. Before she could raise her hand to shove her, Xie Jingcheng seized her wrist, her brows lowered in a menacing glare.
“An Wenqing, I don’t have time for your melodramatic schemes. My family isn’t one of those pretentious, nouveau riche clans. If Qingxing accepts my proposal, I’ll bring her home.”
Song Qingxing: ?
Just moments ago, she had been thinking, Xie Jingcheng standing up to this vicious woman for me is so cool and so… feminine!
Then she heard those words.
Eight hundred question marks instantly flooded Song Qingxing’s mind.
When did I ever agree to become the Xie Family’s daughter-in-law? I haven’t even had a proper relationship, and now I’m supposed to get married? This is too tragic!
“Agreed to be pursued?”
An Wenqing’s shoulders twitched as she smiled, her lips curving into a venomous, serpentine curve.
“Xie Jingcheng, don’t you think that’s absurd? So you’re just lovers? You’ve bribed her to keep you company.”
Her glass-like eyes fixed on Song Qingxing, a contemptuous smile playing on her lips.
“So much for being a top-tier actress. Turns out you’re just a whore to be used in bed…”
Before she could finish the last word, Xie Jingcheng finally snapped. She shoved An Wenqing out the door, her voice a furious, guttural roar—a primal rage that couldn’t be faked.
“Get out now.”
“An Wenqing, my relationship with her is my choice, my pursuit. Qingxing has nothing to do with this.”
After pushing An Wenqing out, Xie Jingcheng moved to close the door.
But a hand gripped her wrist tightly. Xie Jingcheng glanced down at the hand, its long, diamond-studded nails gleaming.
Remembering their childhood friendship, Xie Jingcheng hesitated for a moment. Then, steeling her resolve, she wrenched her wrist free and slammed the door shut.
The nails scraped across her wrist, drawing a thin line of bl00d. Xie Jingcheng, a pampered heiress, had delicate skin. Crimson droplets welled up instantly, stark against her pale skin.
