Reborn! Entangled with the Obsessive Best Actress - Chapter 46
“No,” Song Qingxing replied, her face flushed crimson, making her look as tempting as a ripe peach.
“I just… I feel like I haven’t been myself lately. I’m worried you might be getting tired of me.”
Gathering her courage, Song Qingxing finally decided to stop playing coy. This ambiguity was making both of them miserable, so she resolved to lay her feelings bare.
“Don’t worry,” Xie Jingcheng assured her, kissing the tip of her nose. “My affection for you isn’t something I’ll tire of so easily. After all, I stuck by you even when you had such a terrible temper. Now that you’re so obedient, how could I possibly stop liking you?”
With that, Xie Jingcheng resumed her bath.
The two remained mostly silent, save for the soothing music playing from the hotel’s sound system. As the bathtub’s vibration function activated, Xie Jingcheng felt her muscles relax completely.
It seems winning a girlfriend isn’t something you can rush, she mused inwardly. You have to wait patiently.
Deciding to slow down, Xie Jingcheng resolved to give the little rabbit time to adjust before launching a full-scale offensive.
After a full night’s rest, Song Qingxing prepared to return to filming. Xie Jingcheng, having noticed her exhaustion these past few days, had refrained from touching her.
How incredibly considerate, Song Qingxing thought, her heart stirring. But just as her pulse quickened, she slapped herself mentally. No! How could I even think that?
If she were to develop feelings for her Gold Sponsor, she’d be the biggest fool in the world.
After breakfast, Xie Jingcheng instructed the driver to take them both to the film set.
Initially, her excuse for being there was simply that her family had invested in the production and she wanted to visit the set. But now that she had taken on a supporting role in the drama, she could enter and exit the film set with far greater legitimacy.
The director had sent over the electronic script the previous night. Xie Jingcheng glanced at it while drying her hair after her shower.
It turned out the guest role had quite a substantial part, playing one of the female lead’s closest friends. There were even some ambiguous scenes between the two characters.
Xie Jingcheng strongly suspected the director had instructed the screenwriter to add these scenes overnight.
However, the scenes didn’t feel forced. If they had been truly awful, she would have refused to perform them.
Rather than adding random scenes, she would have preferred a spotlight moment.
Song Qingxing finished her makeup and was about to leave when she remembered Xie Jingcheng was also getting ready. Today was the day Xie Jingcheng would film her scenes.
She was acting opposite herself.
The thought that Xie Jingcheng had been acting against herself all along made Song Qingxing feel a pang of guilt. She could already imagine the insults Xie Jingcheng’s fans would hurl at her:
Vixen! Succubus!
Seducing our master, making her lose her appetite and neglect her work, clinging to you day and night!
But the fans weren’t entirely wrong—it just wasn’t Song Qingxing clinging to Xie Jingcheng; it was the other way around.
Song Qingxing decided to wait by the door for Xie Jingcheng to emerge.
Moments later, Xie Jingcheng walked out in a pristine school uniform. Most people in their twenties look somewhat out of place in such attire, but Xie Jingcheng carried it off flawlessly.
Despite being several years older than Song Qingxing, Xie Jingcheng looked genuinely youthful and captivating in the uniform.
“Staring again?”
A gentle tap on her nose startled Song Qingxing, who took a few steps back, protesting, “I wasn’t!”
“I know I’m beautiful.”
“If you want to look, just look. No need to sneak glances. I won’t get angry.”
Xie Jingcheng had always been generous with those she cared for. Even if Song Qingxing stared at her face like a maniac, trying to find hidden patterns, she wouldn’t say a word.
Xie Jingcheng didn’t mind at all, smiling as she said, “Of course, I’ll do whatever you want.”
But inwardly, she couldn’t help but think, So she’s into uniform play? I guess I’ll have to cater to her tastes.
Just as she was pondering this, the production assistant called out, urging them to hurry. Once the cameras were ready, there was no time to waste; every minute the crew was running cost money.
Song Qingxing and Xie Jingcheng rushed to the film set. The scene went smoothly enough.
For Xie Jingcheng, acting in a web drama was as easy as eating or drinking. She had to hold back, otherwise the inexperienced actors wouldn’t be able to keep up.
But summer was a rainy season. The morning shoot had gone well, but the afternoon shoot was disrupted by a sudden downpour, just like the day they filmed the commercial.
The crew scrambled to move the equipment indoors.
Song Qingxing was caught completely off guard by the rain and got soaked to the bone. Her summer school uniform, being thin and breathable, became even more transparent when wet, revealing glimpses of her fair skin. The entire crew couldn’t help but steal glances.
Xie Jingcheng glared at them.
Her gaze seemed to say, “She’s my wife. What are you all staring at?”
Everyone quickly lowered their heads, fidgeting with their noses, too guilty to look again.
Xie Jingcheng pulled Song Qingxing into the dressing room. Her assistant hadn’t brought many clothes—too much luggage would have been impossible to carry—so her bag contained only one or two spare shirts.
Xie Jingcheng now produced her own silk shirt. Song Qingxing glanced at it and immediately recognized its exorbitant price.
If I wore this and accidentally snagged a thread, I could never afford to replace it!
She hesitated, feeling awkward.
“No, thank you. I’ll just wear the T-shirt Yu Zhi gave me. Wearing your clothes would be too much trouble.”
Xie Jingcheng glanced down at her shirt, then narrowed her eyes, studying Song Qingxing with growing suspicion.
“Song Qingxing, you’re lying.”
“You just don’t want to wear my clothes.”
“I’m not…”
Before she could finish the last word, Xie Jingcheng pressed closer, bracing one hand against the dressing room wall. The pose resembled a 壁咚 (wall slam), but the proximity made it even more intimate.
“You’re lying. Do you think I can’t tell? I’ve been acting since I was a child.”
“You think you can deceive me?”
“Song Qingxing, win a Best Actress award first before you talk.”
Though arrogant, the statement was undeniably true. When people lie, they betray their nervousness through subtle cues like darting eyes or flushed ears and noses.
While these signs aren’t foolproof, Xie Jingcheng’s keen observation skills allowed her to discern whether someone was acting or being genuine.
She had a natural talent for this.
Well… I’ve been seen through.
Song Qingxing sighed inwardly and reluctantly accepted the offered clothes.
“I just feel bad always troubling you like this,” she murmured.
“It’s no trouble at all,” Xie Jingcheng replied, her expression earnest as she unbuttoned Song Qingxing’s uniform. Her fingertips traced a deliberate path downward, completely undoing the buttons.
Setting the uniform aside, Xie Jingcheng patiently helped Song Qingxing into the new clothes. Yet, her ears had already begun to flush crimson.
How strange.
I’ve already seen and touched her.
Why is my heart still racing like this?
