Chapter 10
When the sound of a belt buckle being undone was heard, Junseong finally realized that there were two women in the room. He quickly covered the man’s hand to stop him. Looking at Chaeyi and the other two people, Junseong gestured toward the partition near the desk in the training room.
“I’ll check the lower body over there separately.”
“Oh… okay.”
After confirming Chaeyi’s nod, Junseong grabbed Hanseo’s wrist and pulled him along. Hanseo let himself be dragged with a calm expression, as if he had no complaints.
The partition looked to be about 180 cm tall. It barely covered Junseong completely, but Hanseo’s eyes peeked out from the top. Still, that didn’t really matter, as all Junseong needed to check was whether there were any bite marks on Hanseo’s body. Whether his eyes or ears were exposed didn’t make a difference.
Hanseo looked past the partition at the three people. As he estimated the distance between the desk and the sofa, he spoke to Junseong in a low voice.
“You’re not a student at this school, are you?”
“Uh, no.”
“How old are you?”
“Twenty-seven.”
“We’re the same age.”
“You answered properly, so why don’t you move your hands a little too?”
At Junseong’s cold voice, Hanseo obediently moved his hands. He started unfastening his waist belt and unzipping the front of his pants.
Even as Hanseo was taking off his pants, Junseong carefully examined his upper body. Just like his neat clothes, his body was clean, without a single bite mark.
“Why did you come here?”
As Hanseo lowered his pants, he asked another question. Watching the fabric slide down, Junseong answered.
“I’m looking for my younger sibling.”
“Who’s your sibling?”
“You see that person over there who looks like me?”
Junseong gestured toward Chaeyi, who was beyond the partition and out of sight.
Anyone could tell that Junseong and Chaeyi were siblings. Not only did they look alike, but they also had the same kind of aura. Because of this, when they were together, people never asked if they were dating. Instead, they always assumed they were siblings.
So, he thought it would be obvious who his sibling was at a glance.
While Hanseo looked toward the three people outside the partition, Junseong focused on examining his legs.
His exposed legs were just as well-developed as his upper body. The firm muscles made it seem like he would be good at any sport. Junseong even felt a bit envious. No matter how much he exercised, he never gained muscle, nor did he put on much weight. Because of that, he never found much interest in building his body. Of course, sitting in front of a computer for long hours due to both work and hobbies played a big role in that.
As he continued scanning Hanseo’s legs, Junseong’s expression suddenly twisted when his eyes landed on his drawers.
“Crazy…”
Seeing the thickness and length of the thing hidden inside the drawers, Junseong shuddered. If that wasn’t a murder weapon, then what was?
“But… honestly, I’m jealous.”
What guy wouldn’t be jealous of something that size?
Junseong considered himself to be of average Korean size, but he couldn’t help feeling envious.
Maybe he had been staring too openly.
Hanseo narrowed his eyes and grinned.
“Want me to take this off too?”
“No.”
If he left Hanseo alone, he really might take off his drawers as well. Quickly looking away, Junseong picked up Hanseo’s pants from the floor.
“I’ve checked everything. Put your pants back on now.”
Hanseo took them without resistance and got dressed while saying,
“I don’t see anyone who looks like you over there.”
“What are you talking about? There’s someone who looks exactly like me.”
Junseong stood on tiptoe and pointed at Chaeyi.
“The one with the short hair. That’s my younger sibling.”
“Ah… so that’s them.”
Tightening his belt, Hanseo’s gaze turned cold as he stared at Chaeyi.
Since Junseong was also looking at Chaeyi, he didn’t notice Hanseo’s expression.
“What a shame.”
It was a mumble so quiet that even Junseong, who was standing right next to him, could barely hear it.
“Huh? What did you say?”
“Nothing. I didn’t say anything.”
Hanseo smiled and put on his turtleneck and jacket. As Junseong saw that he was fully dressed, he turned to step out of the partition first, but Hanseo suddenly grabbed his arm from behind.
“There’s something I’ve been wanting to ask.”
“What?”
Junseong responded, but at that moment, he felt Hanseo’s gaze change. The smile that had been on his face the whole time was completely gone. The sharp, cold look in his eyes felt like an invisible dagger pressing against his throat.
“Why do you keep looking at me like that?”
The strange pressure made Junseong fall silent for a moment before he asked back,
“How… exactly am I looking at you?”
“…….”
Hanseo didn’t respond immediately like Junseong expected. Instead, he just stared at him silently.
Then, that fake smile returned to his lips.
“Let’s go.”
Hanseo let go of Junseong’s arm, gently ran his hand over Junseong’s hair once, and then stepped out from behind the partition.
“The check-up is over.”
Hanseo spread his arms slightly as he confidently spoke, then glanced at Junseong, who followed him out. When their eyes met, Junseong agreed with Hanseo’s words, easing the others’ anxiety.
“There’s not even a bite mark, not even a scratch. You can relax.”
“Ha… that’s a relief.”
All three of them visibly relaxed, but the most relieved one was Chaeyi. She was the one who had insisted on checking for bite marks by having him take off his clothes, but she was also the one who had suggested letting Hanseo inside in the first place. If Hanseo had turned out to be infected, she would have felt a crushing sense of guilt.
Junseong watched as Hanseo took the canned coffee Jiwoo handed him and fell into thought.
‘Did I make it too obvious?’
He had tried his best to suppress his emotions, but it seemed like he had still given something away.
The truth was, Junseong found Hanseo highly suspicious.
His clothes were too clean, his body was completely unscathed, yet he reeked of bl00d.
After seeing him undress, Junseong was certain.
The scent of bl00d clinging to Do Hanseo wasn’t from his clothes—it was coming from his body.
Junseong recalled one of the many survivors he had encountered in his dreams—someone who, like Hanseo, carried the strong scent of fresh bl00d on their very being.
It wasn’t the thick, clotted bl00d of zombies but fresh, flowing human bl00d.
That person had been a brutal murderer who hunted living people in this hell.
“…So that’s the situation.”
“You figured that out pretty well.”
Hanseo leaned his chin on the back of his hand and looked at Junseong, who was sitting next to him. He voiced a simple question to Junseong, who had just explained the current situation to him.
“How do you know so much? Whether it’s about reports or rescue operations.”
Not only Hanseo but also the three people sitting across from them on the sofa had similar expressions of curiosity. Chaeyi, in particular, looked at Junseong with a piercing gaze, as she had already intended to interrogate him before Hanseo even arrived.
Junseong hesitated for a moment.
Should he just tell the truth?
That he had already seen everything in his dreams—that he knew how things would unfold from here and even what they needed to find to ultimately stop this zombie outbreak?
But he stopped himself.
‘You already know what happens if you reveal it.’
It wasn’t as if he had never been honest in his dreams.
He had told Chaeyi and her friends the truth, and he had trusted other people he met later enough to confide in them.
No one believed him. They all looked at him as if he were crazy. Some even tried to isolate him, treating him like a lunatic.
Then, as the things he had predicted started coming true, some people began to look at him with fear, while others regarded him with blind reverence. That was still fine.
But the real problem came after that.
Junseong had seen the absolute worst of human nature—things so horrifying that even now, just thinking about them made his face go pale with fear and dread.
Whether he told one person or several, the outcome was always the same.
So he couldn’t say it.
“I know someone in the military. I heard about it from them right before the internet went down.”
The others seemed to accept this explanation. They didn’t know much about Junseong, and they had just met for the first time. Plus, he was the older brother of their friend, so they were more inclined to believe him than doubt him.
Pretending not to notice Chaeyi’s suspicious gaze, Junseong pulled out his phone.
Even though the phone had lost its signal and internet access, he could still use it to check maps. He knew GPS-based apps wouldn’t work properly, so he had made sure to install an offline map of Korea in advance.
Junseong opened the map and pointed to a spot that looked like a navigation route. The place he pointed to was where they were now—‘Inhan University.’
“This is our current location.”
He moved his finger across the map, tracing a path. After quite a bit of movement, he finally pointed to another spot.
“And this is the evacuation shelter and rescue site that my contact told me about.”
Junseong’s finger stopped on ‘Inhan Hospital.’
