Chapter 24
Unlike how it looked on the outside, the inside of the motel was actually pretty decent.
The sign made you wonder why they had designed it that way, but the lobby was clean and elegant. The marble floor, the counter that matched the overall color scheme—everything showed that they had put some effort into it.
As expected, no one was at the counter.
Hanseo took his hand off Junseong’s waist, looked around the quiet lobby, and then hopped over the counter. He grabbed a black key card from inside and came back out.
“Why only one?”
When Junseong asked, Hanseo answered as if it were obvious.
“We have to sleep together. If I’m with you, you’ll be safe even if zombies come.”
At the words “sleep together,” Junseong frowned deeply and also climbed over the counter. Among the scattered black key cards, he picked up the one labeled “ROYAL” for Room 701.
Diligently, Junseong checked the small board displaying the room rates, carefully verified the price, and left the money on the counter.
Room 701, which Junseong chose, was the motel’s royal suite. The name sounded fancy, but since it was still a motel, the interior was nowhere near a high-end hotel suite. Still, it was a decent two-room setup, with a large bed in the main bedroom and a smaller bed in the other room.
Satisfied with the room size and the interior, Junseong immediately started taking off his clothes. He threw off his bloodstained coat first, then removed his shirt and pants as well.
“I’ll shower first…”
Just as he picked up a towel and was about to head into the bathroom, he noticed Hanseo staring at him. Hanseo was leaning against the wall, arms crossed, openly scanning Junseong’s body.
“Did you feel like this when you were checking my body?”
“What feeling?”
Hanseo grinned playfully.
“The feeling of wanting to jump on you.”
Instead of answering, Junseong fiercely threw the towel in his hand at Hanseo’s face. Hanseo caught it effortlessly before it even touched him, but by the time he looked back at Junseong, he had already disappeared into the bathroom.
Hanseo set down his backpack and started taking off his clothes as well, calling out toward the bathroom.
“You can’t use your right hand. I’ll help you wash.”
“No need. I can shower by myself.”
By now, Hanseo had stripped down to his underwear and opened the bathroom door. Since it was a love hotel, the door was just a single frosted glass panel with no lock, making it easy to enter.
Inside, Junseong was already in the transparent shower booth, turning on the water.
Without hesitation, Hanseo stepped into the shower booth as well. Junseong immediately felt the space grow smaller and pushed against Hanseo’s firm chest.
“I told you, I can wash alone.”
“When you injure your dominant hand, there are a lot of things you struggle with. Washing yourself is one of them.”
Holding the showerhead, Hanseo adjusted the water temperature and actually started washing Junseong.
Water flowed down his neck and shoulders, tracing the lines of his body. Hanseo’s skin was also pale, but his had a slightly sickly look, whereas Junseong’s was smooth, with a soft sheen that made it look warm to the touch.
Because his skin was thin, the moment the warm water hit, the color of his body deepened.
As Hanseo watched the water gently flow down Junseong’s curves, his eyes landed on his small, pink n1pples. They looked like little fruits placed on his white skin.
Just as Hanseo’s gaze was about to move lower, Junseong narrowed his eyes and snatched the showerhead away.
“Don’t stare at my weak, muscle-less body like that.”
Junseong thought Hanseo might be mocking him. Otherwise, there was no reason for someone who had been smiling mischievously just moments ago to now be watching him with such a blank expression.
As Junseong skillfully washed himself with his left hand, Hanseo gently touched his bruised arm. There were four distinct diagonal bruise marks, as if something had tightly wrapped around his arm.
Hanseo frowned slightly and took the showerhead from Junseong again.
“This won’t do. Raise your arms.”
“What?”
Since he knew that Junseong’s arms weren’t in good condition, Hanseo wasn’t going to back down this time.
Forcing Junseong to comply, he helped him shower and even washed his hair before sending him out first. Then, Hanseo began his own shower—this time with ice-cold water.
As the freezing water ran over his face, his expression became colder and more unreadable than anything Junseong had seen before.
“Are you hurt?”
That was the first thing Kang Junseong had asked him right after they escaped the training facility. Junseong had been strangely wary of him back then, and Hanseo had teased him just to see his angry face. But he hadn’t expected Junseong to be more worried about him than himself.
‘Says the guy covered in bruises.’
The rope marks on Junseong’s arms were bothering him.
The first time Hanseo saw Kang Junseong—
Junseong was skillfully luring zombies away, making sure to engage with them as little as possible. He had even built a flamethrower to fight them off, something that had genuinely impressed Hanseo.
Junseong’s destination was the school building where Hanseo had been. Even from outside, the windows were covered in bl00d, and the hallways and classrooms echoed with monstrous groans. It was obvious that the building was swarming with zombies, yet Junseong was walking straight into it.
No matter how good he was at improvising or how easily he split zombie heads with his machete, entering that building was a death sentence. If he was rushing toward his own death, then Hanseo saw no reason to care.
But Kang Junseong was desperate. Even though he knew it was more dangerous inside, he kept pushing forward for something. At the same time, he was skilled at defending himself, making it entertaining to watch him fight.
Do Hanseo liked people who risked their lives to survive and fight their enemies.
Kang Junseong was exactly like that.
Just by looking at his desperate face and actions, it was obvious.
Jumping into danger was his way of surviving.
Thinking about that made Hanseo curious. He wondered what Junseong was trying to do by going so deep into a building full of zombies.
By the time Hanseo realized it, he had already manually set off an alarm that was supposed to ring at 2:00, timing it perfectly with Junseong sneaking onto the second floor. He even used a classroom microphone, which attracted so many zombies that leaving the area became nearly impossible.
As he moved forward, the zombies parted like the miracle of Moses.
It wasn’t a bad feeling. A path opened by corpses.
He left his now-useless phone on the classroom podium and followed Kang Junseong up to the third floor.
Knock, knock. He knocked on the assistant professor’s office door, and for the first time, he heard Junseong’s voice.
“How did you get here?”
His voice was calm and composed but full of clear suspicion.
Hanseo liked it. Losing control of emotions in the middle of enemy territory or failing to be wary of strangers was a serious problem.
When he finally entered the office and saw Kang Junseong up close, he understood why he kept staring at him.
That stupid girl who didn’t know her place and tried to pressure him.
That annoying coward who whined so much it hurt his ears.
That useless junior who wanted others to make all the decisions and never put in any effort.
Not even worth remembering her name.
But Kang Junseong was different. Hanseo thought Junseong was just being cautious because of the risk of infection. But even without a single bite mark, the wariness in Junseong’s eyes never disappeared.
Why was he looking at him like that?
As time passed, Hanseo became more and more curious about why Junseong was so wary of him. Compared to that, the many strong emotions others had shown him felt insignificant.
It was like being targeted by a sniper’s red laser sight. He couldn’t ignore it.
When he finally realized that Kang Junseong had a special foresight ability, he understood his suspicion.
Hanseo wasn’t someone in Junseong’s foresight.
Because of Hanseo’s actions, the future had started to change, and even Junseong didn’t know what would happen next.
The proof was that the annoying coward he had handed a wrench to had made a small dent in the screen door. That little dent soon turned into countless cracks. The zombies that escaped through the tunnel because of that forced Kang Junseong to deal with an unexpected situation.
Since it was something he hadn’t foreseen, maybe this time he would die.
The thought of Junseong getting torn apart by zombies and dying in a pool of bl00d made a pleasant tightness in Hanseo’s lower stomach.
Nothing was more thrilling than seeing someone struggle desperately to survive, only to die in the end.
He decided to stay with Kang Junseong so he could witness him running for his life before finally dying. He wanted to see how far he could go.
If he got to watch Kang Junseong surrounded by zombies, screaming in agony, he knew he would experience the ultimate pleasure. He could even finish multiple times just from seeing Junseong’s bl00d-covered face filled with despair.
That’s what he thought would happen.
But then, without any fear, Junseong threw himself in front of him to protect him.
Not only did he shield him with his own body, but he even ran straight into the zombies, knowing he would die.
By the time Hanseo came to his senses, he had already trapped Junseong in his arms, protecting him.
