Red Dot - 74
Hanseo’s eyes, which had been staring at the building, slid over Junseong as if on ice. In that moment, his gaze had subtly transformed, returning to its usual cool yet sharp demeanor.
However, that strange look he had just seen wasn’t easily erased from Junseong’s memory.
“Is that what you were talking about, right here?”
Chang-min asked, turning to Junseong, who had fallen silent. Only now did he realize that they weren’t the only ones present in this place, nodding his head in acknowledgment.
“Yes. It’s supposed to be inside that research facility behind the blood bank.”
Junseong’s tone was somewhat bitter.
The boss of the long-term trading organization, a variable entity, must have taken the director’s head for a reason, likely to obtain a solution. This meant that the solution Junseong had encountered in his dreams might not be found here.
Jian, who shared Junseong’s thoughts, asked,
“You said it’s highly likely that person took it. Then, was it really necessary for us to come here?”
“Just because it’s highly likely doesn’t mean it’s 100% certain. We need to confirm what happened to the solution, and most importantly… we need to check other things too.”
Junseong, who said this, looked at Gyeong-oh.
“Sir, did you bring all the tools?”
“Uh, well, I did, but…”
Gyeong-oh stumbled over his words with a tense expression.
“I’m not sure if I, I can do it. The last time I repaired something was three years ago… and it was a similar device.”
Gyeong-oh seemed more nervous than when facing zombies. Given the weighty task assigned to him, he seemed burdened.
“It’s okay. Even if you can’t unlock the device, you can help with other parts.”
“Yeah, that’s right. You don’t need to worry about anything except the facial recognition device. That’s my area of expertise.”
Gyeong-oh, showing confidence, chuckled lightly. It seemed like his tension had eased a bit as he walked ahead, urging them to hurry.
“Let’s go quickly. It’s supposed to rain later.”
Gyeong-oh headed towards the building behind the blood bank. Taking brisk steps, Junseong stopped him with words.
“Sir, it’s not that way.”
“Huh? You said the solution is in that building, right?”
“That’s true, but all the entrances you see are fake.”
Junseong pointed to the blood bank with his index finger.
“We have to go through here to find the right path.”
Without the guidance of the blood bank director, they would have been lost for quite a while, even at the last session. It was a relief that Junseong had remembered the correct path from walking inside the blood bank in his dream.
“I remember the way. There were quite a few zombies at the entrance, so stay alert, everyone.”
During the last dream, they had lost two comrades suddenly due to the sudden emergence of numerous zombies. To avoid a similar situation, Junseong, who had synchronized their movements, moved forward with a stern face.
Junseong stood at the forefront of the line. Behind him were Chang-min, Gyeong-oh, Jian, and Hanseo followed last. Considering the narrow corridors and stairs inside the blood bank, a straight-line formation seemed most appropriate for a small group.
But the reason for insisting on this formation was mainly because of Hanseo.
Zombies didn’t attack Hanseo. No, they couldn’t attack him.
As a result, there was a risk that someone other than the person sitting at the rearmost position would notice the strange behavior of the zombies toward Hanseo. Although Hanseo gave Junseong a look of considerable displeasure at not being directly behind him, he didn’t voice any complaints, knowing the reason behind this formation.
Forming the line and adjusting their weapons, the group cautiously entered the blood bank.
As they opened the glass door and entered, the dim interior greeted them, much like what they had seen from outside. The electricity here had also been cut off, but judging by the scattered light from machines or active emergency lights, it seemed that emergency power was in use. However, it didn’t seem to be used for the lights illuminating the surroundings.
The group following behind Junseong looked puzzled at the winding underground tunnels.
It was strange enough that there was a basement in the blood center, but unlike the first floor, the basement had many corridors resembling a maze. The white corridors were filled with intersections arranged in straight lines and right angles, seemingly designed solely to confuse the way, and there were no doors connecting rooms like on the first floor.
Junseong confidently walked through such paths as if looking down at them as if they were on the palm of his hand. Occasionally checking the clock at the intersections, it seemed like he was considering the timing for when zombies might emerge from the perpendicular paths. However, as expected, no zombies came out. Instead, there were only corpses lying around with their heads pierced at some intersection.
After passing through maze-like paths, Junseong stopped in front of a sturdy silver metal door. Next to it was something like a camera lens emitting a faint green light. Right next to it was a keypad for entering numbers.
Junseong turned around and looked at Gyeong-oh with his flashlight shining on it.
“Sir, it’s time to act.”
“Yeah!”
Nodding vigorously, Gyeong-oh put down the backpack he was carrying. From inside, he took out some tools.
With a determined expression, Hwang Gyeong-ohh approached the facial recognition device, holding some tools in both hands.
