Gu Yu Qi trembled, her whole body shivering with cold.
Sensing something strange about the person under him, Yun Ke acted decisively and immediately tapped her sleeping acupressure point.
He could see her resistance, and the deep fear in her eyes stabbed painfully at his heart.
The person in his arms quieted down instantly. Her skin still carried a trace of coldness and her hair was slightly dishevelled from her struggling just now.
Yun Ke gently brushed aside her hair, revealing her now calm face.
As if holding the most precious dew, he gently placed his large hand on her belly. A soft warmth flowed from his palm into her body. Slowly, the warmth spread from her belly to her whole body until he felt that her hands and feet were no longer icy cold, and the furrow between her brows gradually relaxed. Yun Ke then withdrew his hand.
He pulled up the blanket to cover Gu Yu Qi, then lay down beside her.
He quietly watched her sleeping face, so familiar yet somehow a little unfamiliar. Every time he saw her, she presented a different aspect of herself, forming a completely new and vibrant Gu Yu Qi.
He held her hand, feeling the warmth of her palm and unwilling to let go. He realised that when you truly liked someone, even just looking at them and doing nothing could bring immense satisfaction and joy.
Yun Ke’s heart was filled with this kind of contentment and pleasure. He felt that even if he spent his whole life just watching her like this, he would never tire of it.
Quietly, Yun Ke released the sleeping acupressure point he had activated. She was clearly exhausted and the warmth Yun Ke had transmitted to her had alleviated her physical pain. Gu Yu Qi did not even show signs of waking up.
Bai Fu was guarding outside the door. At first, she heard what seemed like arguing from inside the room, but now everything had calmed down.
What happened to the young lady and His Highness Prince An inside?
Bai Fu could not help feeling anxious. She wanted to ask but did not dare to. She was torn for a long time and as the room grew quieter, her unease only increased. Could something bad have happened between Miss and Prince An?
“Miss, may this servant come in?” she called out, about to push open the door.
Before she could push the door open, she saw the door silently open by itself, revealing a man in plain clothes standing inside. The chilling glare in his eyes told Bai Fu that he was very angry and even the air around him seemed to turn colder from his appearance.
Bai Fu’s heart sank but before she could explain, she was handed a pile of things, including leftover food boxes and Miss’ clothes.
“Take these and wash them, then find a reliable physician to come over!” Yun Ke said sternly, his face dark.
“Yes.” Bai Fu lowered her head under Yun Ke’s gaze. She did not understand why Prince An had suddenly become so frightening. The pressure emanating from him made her feel like kneeling down the whole time.
Seeing Bai Fu leave, Yun Ke closed the door again.
It was all because of this incompetent maid! If she had not shouted outside, Gu Yu Qi would still be asleep.
Her shout woke Gu Yu Qi up, and he could not openly watch over her anymore! She was truly a troublesome servant! So annoying.
Gu Yu Qi was indeed awakened by Bai Fu’s voice.
Although she had only slept for a while, Gu Yu Qi felt like she had slept for a long time. Her whole body was warm, as if she were enveloped in a warm spring. She had not felt so relaxed and comfortable in a long time. Yet when she opened her eyes and saw Yun Ke lying beside her, looking at her, Gu Yu Qi’s body immediately stiffened and grew cold.
Yun Ke watched as her eyes slowly opened, changing from calm and gentle to alert and icy. In the blink of an eye, his heart plummeted from the clouds once again.
Yun Ke had maintained a composed facade and said to Gu Yu Qi, “I went to dismiss the maid, so don’t move.” Then he got up calmly, venting his frustration by bundling everything together and tossing it into Bai Fu’s hands.
Gu Yu Qi’s pain was not something to be taken lightly. He thought it best to call for a physician, which was why Yun Ke told Bai Fu to fetch one.
Intimidated by Yun Ke, Bai Fu did not dare to delay and hurriedly brought the old physician.
With Gu Yu Qi’s permission, they entered the room. Bai Fu looked left and right but unexpectedly, there was no trace of Prince An.
The physician took Gu Yu Qi’s pulse, diagnosing her with blood deficiency due to excessive fatigue, advising rest and warmth. He then wrote a prescription before taking his leave.
Once Bai Fu and the physician exited, Yun Ke reappeared, having been hiding on the roof’s eaves. He gracefully descended and stood before Gu Yu Qi once more.
“Rest more,” Yun Ke said to Gu Yu Qi who was attempting to get up. He walked to a chair and sat down.
How could I sleep with you here? Gu Yu Qi cursed to herself.
Seeing Gu Yu Qi still trying to get up and out of bed, Yun Ke’s irritation grew.
Could this woman not listen to him obediently just once?
She did not even consider herself. She looked as pale as a ghost and anyone unaware of the situation might think he had mistreated her.
“Don’t test this prince’s patience,” Yun Ke said in a low voice, “Lie back down obediently.”
Gu Yu Qi felt a bit bewildered and glanced up slightly at Yun Ke.
Even Gu Yu Qi could sense the low pressure emanating from him.
“Is there something troubling Your Highness?” Gu Yu Qi asked.
Yes! The trouble is you not listening! I told you to rest but you just have to get up. Yun Ke held back his frustration and merely shot Gu Yu Qi a sideways glance.
Feeling a gaze filled with a tinge of resentment sweep over her, Gu Yu Qi stood upright before Yun Ke, unsure of what she had done to offend this guy again.
Strangely enough, the severe pain in her stomach had subsided considerably. Gu Yu Qi could not help but look at Yun Ke with suspicion. What had he done to her after rendering her unconscious? Gu Yu Qi did not feel anything strange. Instead, she felt warm all over.
“Do you insist on standing in front of this prince?” Yun Ke lamented, his tone sounding almost hostile.
“Then this civilian girl shall take leave,” Gu Yu Qi replied, curtseying. If he did not want to see her, then she would leave.
The oblivious Gu Yu Qi completely did not understand that Prince An’s resentment came from her obedience. She thought he was unhappy because she was standing there.
In her previous life, she had become accustomed to always being wrong in his eyes no matter what she did. Now, even just standing seemed to irritate him.
“Where are you going?” Yun Ke’s heart tightened as he sensed something wrong with Gu Yu Qi. She had already turned to leave. Yun Ke quickly reached out and grabbed Gu Yu Qi.
Why did this woman always have to cause trouble? What he meant was obviously that she should rest, sleep more, and keep warm, instead of standing there. Yet why did she think that he was chasing her out?
Yun Ke sighed inwardly.
“Isn’t Your Highness telling this civilian girl to leave?” Gu Yu Qi subtly withdrew her arm from his grip, stepping back, “This civilian girl will go now.”
Damn it, he obviously did not mean it like this.
Before Gu Yu Qi could reach the door latch, a figure flashed before her and blocked her way.
Gu Yu Qi halted just in time to avoid crashing into him.
Gu Yu Qi looked up in surprise, meeting Yun Ke’s deep and somewhat helpless eyes.
“Did this prince tell you to leave?” Yun Ke suppressed his anger and said in a deep voice to Gu Yu Qi, “Why don’t you listen well when this prince tells you to rest?”
What was going on? Gu Yu Qi felt a bit bewildered. Why could she hear a bit of resentment and concern in Yun Ke’s words? Her ears must be playing tricks on her.
Gu Yu Qi quickly lowered her gaze and head, then took a step back, “It’s just that with Your Highness here, this civilian girl can’t rest. It would be better if this civilian girl finds another place.”
This was too surreal. Gu Yu Qi felt that she must be so tired that she was imagining things.
Yun Ke gritted his teeth as he looked at Gu Yu Qi’s distant demeanour. Could she really not rest? Who was the one sleeping soundly beside him just now? It was all that damn maid’s fault!
“This prince will leave then. You rest first, and this prince will come back to see you tonight!” Yun Ke restrained himself again and again from the urge to knock her out again and carry her to bed. Doing this kind of thing once was enough. Considering how wary Gu Yu Qi was of him, doing it a second time would not work and would only make her more guarded against him.
For the sake of the future, Prince An held back.
“But where will Your Highness go?” Gu Yu Qi sighed with relief but still asked politely.
“Are you concerned about this prince?” The gloomy atmosphere in his heart dissipated because of Gu Yu Qi’s words. Yun Ke’s eyes brightened slightly, and he asked with a hint of joy.
“Since this civilian girl is Your Highness’ ally, then this civilian girl should naturally be concerned about Your Highness’s safety,” Gu Yu Qi said slowly.
“No need! This prince has this prince’s own place to go.” Yun Ke’s heart plummeted from the clouds again! He spoke angrily. He thought this woman had finally shown some conscience, but it turned out… alliance! Damn alliance!
Yun Ke gritted his teeth in frustration.
“Then this civilian girl respectfully sends off Your Highness,” Gu Yu Qi said, curtseying politely.
Full of resentment, Yun Ke opened the door, jumped onto the roof opposite, and disappeared from Gu Yu Qi’s sight with a few leaps.
Phew, he was finally gone! Gu Yu Qi sighed in relief, patting her chest. Then she lazily climbed into her bed. She was really tired and needed a good sleep to replenish her energy. But why did her stomach not hurt anymore? How strange.
Gu Yu Qi did not think about it much. Instead, she drifted into a deep sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
After wandering around for a while, Yun Ke realised that there was really nowhere he could go!
Not feeling reassured, he sneaked back quietly. Seeing Gu Yu Qi’s peaceful sleeping face, he wanted to reach out and touch her cheek but feared he would wake her up. So, he could only slip out of Gu Yu Qi’s room again.
Wang Yan was cleaning his sword in his room when he keenly sensed someone outside the window. He called out in a low voice, “Who?” Due to his special status, he had his own small courtyard in the residence and people did not usually come by.
“It’s me,” Yun Ke responded coldly.
“Your Highness?” Wang Yan quickly put away his sword and opened the window. Wait, no, he opened the door. Having followed Yun Ke for so many years, how could he not recognize his master’s voice?
“This servant greets Your Highness,” Wang Yan said, kneeling on one knee with his hands clasped in a salute.
“Mm,” Yun Ke grunted, his face dark with frustration, and gestured impatiently at Wang Yan with a flick of his finger, “Get up.”
“Yes,” Wang Yan stood up and then closed the door and windows, not forgetting to look back as he did. This was a habit he had cultivated over many years.
Yun Ke paced around Wang Yan’s room twice. “Not bad conditions you have here,” his tone slightly sour as he remarked.
“It’s pretty good, Young Miss treats this servant very well,” Wang Yan could only reply truthfully, sensing something off in Yun Ke’s tone but unsure how he had angered his master.
“Very well?” Yun Ke became even more unhappy.
She treated everyone well, except him! It would have been better if he had returned to the previous life! At least back then, she treated everyone poorly but was good only to him.
“Yes,” Wang Yan said. “Everything here is the best the residence has to offer.”
“Mm,” Yun Ke hummed noncommittally. The furnishings and provisions in this room were indeed superior and not something that even a young master from an official’s family in Kuizhou could enjoy.
“It seems she really likes you!” Yun Ke remarked jealously.
“No, no, not at all!” No matter how slow Wang Yan was, he realised now that his master was jealous.
But this prince’s jealousy seemed quite absurd! Gu Yu Qi’s kindness to him was obviously for the prince’s sake, wasn’t it?
“Your Highness, Miss treats this servant well only because this servant is one of Your Highness’ people,” Wang Yan said, quickly kneeling on one knee. My god, his master was unexpectedly jealous of him for no reason. Wang Yan was at a loss. He hurriedly sought to clarify.
Right! Yun Ke’s heart felt a bit better upon hearing this.
He had been driven out by Gu Yu Qi while Wang Yan was enjoying such a nice room. It was really too much to bear.
Yun Ke sat down with a flourish, “Your master is here, and you’re not even offering a cup of tea?” he said, rolling his eyes at Wang Yan.
Wang Yan quickly excused himself to boil water. For heaven’s sake, his master was never one for such particularities, so what was going on today? Forget it, considering the master’s unusual behaviour today, even feeling jealous over him, it was better to tread carefully.
When Wang Yan returned with the hot water, he found his master sprawled out on his bed, fast asleep.
Standing at the doorway with the hot water, Wang Yan was both amused and dumbfounded. He quietly left the room and gently closed the door. Then, he sat down on the doorstep with great exasperation.
His master had come just to take his bed! Who knew how long his master would sleep for? Did he have to sleep in the trees on a branch again like he did as a secret guard?
His master was so annoying! Why did he have to come to Kuizhou at all if he had nothing to do?
