Just as Gu Yu Qi had her spear pointed at Liu Yue, it happened that Gu Si Yang had gotten the news that they had returned and so Gu Si Yang had hurried to Wan Xin Zhai.
As he turned the corner, he saw Gu Yu Qi and Liang Huai Yu standing under the light of the moon and stars, one near him and the other further away. On the ground lay a circle of servants and women. Not only were each and every one of them wailing, those who were uninjured had stepped back far away. All of them were trembling and none dared to step closer.
Gu Yu Qi, who was usually very gentle to him, currently had her eyebrows raised in anger as she stood with a silver spear in her hand. The tip of the spear was pointed directly at a frightened and limp woman on the ground. Gu Si Yang looked intently and was frightened out of his wits. With those eyebrows, that woman was his biological mother, Liu Yue.
“Go and call Father.” Gu Si Yang hurriedly sent his servant to the study to call Gu Huai Zhong. Then he rushed over quickly and without much thought, he hugged Gu Yu Qi’s arm, “Eldest Sister, she’s Concubine Liu.” He said to Gu Yu Qi anxiously, “Eldest Sister, no matter what happens, we’re a family. Let’s wait and leave it up to Father!”
“You’re still calling her Eldest Sister?!” On the ground, Liu Yue had already gone mad and she roared at Gu Si Yang, “She and her mother have been kicked out of the Marquis residence by the Marquis! Si Yang, hurry and report to the officials! This lunatic wants to kill people!”
Gu Si Yang was obviously stunned by Liu Yue’s words. He looked at Gu Yu Qi in disbelief, his eyes full of heartache and anxiety, “Eldest Sister, is this true? Did Father really kick you out of the house?”
Gu Yu Qi looked back at Gu Si Yang with a faint smile, “Si Yang, I will leave here with Mother tonight. You must study hard from now on. See more, listen more, think by yourself about everything and don’t just believe in everything that is superficial. Not only do you need to see things with your own eyes, you must observe carefully.”
“Eldest Sister, what time is it? You’re still talking about things like this?!” Gu Si Yang spoke urgently, “I’ll go beg Father for forgiveness and to not kick you out of the house! What on earth happened, didn’t you say that the most important thing is for us to be together?”
“Si Yang, there are many things that cannot be explained by a few words,” Gu Yu Qi’s heart warmed slightly. Her perseverance over the years had paid off well. She could see that Gu Si Yang was really anxious and really did not want her to leave, which is why he said that.
“In the future, you must be a noble gentleman, be refined and stand tall. What this birth mother of yours says and does may not necessarily come out of her goodwill to you. Living in this world, there is a lot of helplessness but you must protect your heart. Do not be materialistic or self-piteous. Don’t be easily provoked and give everything a second thought. You just need to remember what Eldest Sister told you today,” Gu Yu Qi said to Gu Si Yang, “Also, it’s useless for you to beg Gu Huai Zhong. In the beginning, the one he wronged was my mother. Now, my mother has already divorced him. I am no longer the daughter of the Gu family. However, I can still be your sister, as long as you are willing.” Then she turned to look at Liu Yue and said to her word by word, “You listen and understand! It’s not that Gu Huai Zhong doesn’t want my mother, it’s that my mother doesn’t want Gu Huai Zhong! He used to bear the title of my father so I didn’t talk about him in front of others. However, let me tell you now, if you really want good for your children, then don’t blindly obey Gu Huai Zhong. He even betrayed the Liang family who gave him a great favour, what would it be to him to betray a little slave-born concubine? If you don’t believe me, then let’s wait and see!”
After Gu Yu Qi finished saying everything, she pushed Gu Si Yang away from her.
Gu Si Yang stared blankly at Gu Yu Qi as she put away her spear. Then without looking back, she walked towards Wan Xin Zhai. His mind was in chaos.
Gu Yu Qi’s words just now had left him completely at a loss. He felt that he had studied etiquette, benevolence, and righteousness for so many years and he firmly believed in the virtues and ethics of humanity. In an instant, it had been all overturned by Gu Yu Qi’s rebellious words.
What should he do? Eldest Sister had said that it was them who did not want Gu Huai Zhong and not Gu Huai Zhong who did not want them. Since ancient times, women have depended on men since birth. Yet, why was it that when his Eldest Sister said this just now, it made him feel like his Eldest Sister’s not-so-tall figure was incomparably stalwart?
Do not be provoked by others and give everything a second thought, do not be materialistic, do not be self-piteous. These were good words of caution and although they were simple to say, they were difficult to do. He turned around dumbly and helped up his mother who was still slumped on the ground. Then he looked dumbly at Wan Xin Zhai. From here, he could see Chun Xing was busy in Wan Xin Zhai. They were packing things overnight. Were they really going to leave the Gu family, leave the Marquis’ residence?
He had always been spoiled and only Gu Yu Qi gave him some hardships from time to time. At first, he was angry but he gradually understood that Gu Yu Qi was not targeting him, rather, she was teaching him that life was not smooth sailing and was capricious. Hence, in his heart, he truly regarded Gu Yu Qi as his biological eldest sister, his mentor, and his friend. It was just that he was reluctant to admit mistakes and refused to express it in front of others.
Just as Gu Si Yang was dazed, the sound of chaotic footsteps could be heard from the end of the corridor.
While Liu Yue was being supported by Gu Si Yang, she was furious and angry from the bottom of her heart. However, due to the strength of the people in that yard, she could only stand to the side and sulk. When she heard footsteps, she turned her head to see Gu Huai Zhong’s figure emerging from the darkness. It was like she saw her saviour and she pushed away her son who was holding her. She staggered and flew to Gu Huai Zhong, suddenly beginning to cry to an earth shattering degree, “Marquis, I can’t live past this day! I was beaten in my own home. I beg the Marquis to find justice for this concubine!”
She fell into Gu Huai Zhong’s like an octopus, crying with snot and tears. When she had been thrown to the ground by Gu Yu Qi before, she was already very embarrassed. Then she had been slapped a few times by Gu Yu Qi and her face became red and swollen. She was dishevelled and the gold hairpins in her bun had come loose, half hanging out of her hair.
Gu Huai Zhong caught his concubine. Taking a closer look under the lamplight, the anger in his heart flared even more.
After returning to the residence, he had hid in the study and because he was depressed, he poured himself a big jar of wine. He knew that Liang Huai Yu would definitely leave with Gu Yu Qi tonight. He really wanted to stop them, but in the capital mayor’s place before, he had already lost so much face. He wanted to stop the mother and daughter from doing anything? Was he not just blocking himself?
The divorce was something he had acted on out of anger. He had already regretted it as he walked out of the capital mayor’s office. He should have knocked Liang-shi and Gu Yu Qi out then took them straight back to the Marquis’ residence and locked them up. He just had to let them cause trouble and go to the capital mayor. Tomorrow, who knew what rumours about the Ding Yuan Marquis’ residence would spread around the capital.
The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he became and the more annoyed he was, the more wine he drank. Unconsciously, he drank a whole jar. When Gu Si Yang’s servant came to look for him, he was already a little drunk. However, when he heard what the boy said, he still leapt three feet high and rushed over with a group of servants.
They really were terribly bold! It was not enough to cause trouble at the capital mayor’s office, but they had to continue causing trouble at home! This time, if Gu Huai Zhong did not deal with the mother and daughter in a tough way, outsiders would really think that Gu Huai Zhong was a softie!
As soon as he walked into Wan Xin Zhai, he was crashed into by his own concubine. When he took a closer look, his anger grew stronger. As the saying went, you must consider the dog’s owner when beating the dog. Even if Liu Yue was nothing else, she was still someone who served him. If Liang Huai Yu was still the madam of the Gu family, then he would not be able to say anything if she beat the concubine. However, Liang Huai Yu had divorced him so how could she still hit someone? Did she really think there was no one in this Ding Yuan Marquis residence?
“Stop howling!” Gu Huai Zhong was suppressing his anger and had been caught by Liu-shi who was wailing and crying. He grew restless and could not help yelling at Liu Yue, “I’ll go get justice for you!”
At first, Liu Yue was taken aback by Gu Huai Zhong’s roar and she fell silent immediately. Then when she heard Gu Huai Zhong’s following words, her heart blossomed with joy instantly. She immediately pretended to be delicate and stepped aside, letting Gu Huai Zhong bring the guards and servants over.
Hidden in the darkness, a sneer crossed her swollen face.
Just because she could not do anything about the mother and daughter pair did not mean that the Marquis could not as well! Who was Gu Huai Zhong in the Ding Yuan Marquis’ residence?! He was a person who had made great achievements on the battlefield. As soon as he went out, it was guaranteed that he would deal with the mother and daughter until they were docile and obedient.
By that time, she would just say something to fan the flames, it was possible that the mother and daughter would be cut off as long as the Marquis was still angry!
“Father!” Gu Si Yang saw the killing intent on Gu Huai Zhong’s face and his heart trembled slightly. After all, Gu Huai Zhong was someone who had been on the battlefield. The anger that radiated from him along with the killing intent was terrifying. Some of the timid maids and women had long been so frightened that they had shrunk to the sidelines, making way for Gu Huai Zhong. Gu Si Yang went over to greet him. As soon as he neared, he smelled a strong alcohol scent and felt uneasy.
“Go away!” Seeing his son standing in front of him, Gu Huai Zhong spoke displeasedly, “Go back with your mother. This is none of your business.”
“Father, even if they are in the wrong, I beg Father to be generous and merciful and forgive them.” Gu Si Yang hurriedly bowed and saluted, “Si Yang will compensate on their behalf for Father.”
“You’ll compensate on their behalf?” Gu Huai Zhong was stunned by his own son. He raised his hand and slapped Gu Si Yang aside, “Go and sit down in your study! Without this Marquis’ orders, you’re not allowed to come out!” After he finished speaking, he said to the servants next to him, “Take the Young Master away! Don’t be an eyesore here!”
Have all of them been flipped inside out? Gu Yu Qi was already a rebel and an immature damn girl. Now his son came to beg for mercy on her behalf! Were they just treating his, Gu Huai Zhong’s, words like a fart?
Gu Si Yang was caught by Gu Huai Zhong’s sudden slap and he saw stars before his eyes. After staggering to one side and stumbling for a few steps, he just righted himself when two servants came over and took him away involuntarily. Liu Yue saw that her innocent son had been beaten and she also felt anxious. She wanted to follow but felt that she should stay and watch the show. So she took two steps forward then stopped and turned to follow Gu Huai Zhong.

Chun Xing and the others moved quickly. They just packed up some valuable jewellery and did not even pack clothing, so they were done in a very short time.
When Liang huai Yu was about to leave with everyone, she stepped out of the door to meet a murderous Gu Huai Zhong.
“Put down your things! Be obedient and surrender.” Gu Huai Zhong looked at the maids and guards in the yard, then his gaze finally fell on Liang Huai Yu’s face.
The moonlight interweaved with the lamplight in the yard. A halo of light and shadow fell on her and that beautiful face was even more enchanting. It was only when something was lost that he would realise the value of having it. Gu Huai Zhong only felt a faint pain in his heart. His brain numbed by alcohol only had one crazy thought, keep her! She could not just leave like this!
Liang Huai Yu handed over the bundle in her hand to Chun Xing, then gave her a look. She motioned her to take Gu Yu Qi and leave from the back. She would stay to hinder Gu Huai Zhong. She secretly took Gu Yu Qi’s hand and wrote a few words quickly on her palm. Gu Yu Qi was stunned at first, then she wrote back a few words.
Only then did Liang Huai Yu smile slowly. Holding the long spear in her hand, she swung it in a display then slammed the tail end of the spear into the ground.
“Seems like there’ll be a battle between us today?” Liang Huai Yu smiled faintly. In the moonlight, her smile became more beautiful and enchanting. Her dress swayed gently in the night wind and her hair also fluttered behind her head. Her movements were charming without losing poise and grace. In the courtyard, she stood tall and straight like a flower in water.
Gu Huai Zhong felt that he was already crazy… He never thought that his wife would be so beautiful… She really was like a goddess.
He had not looked at her properly for a long time so he looked carefully.
“Stay.” It took a long time for Gu Huai Zhong to regain his senses. He coughed lightly and spoke in a slightly softer tone, “Stay. As long as Ah Nan goes to admit her wrongdoings to Prince An, I will go and ask the Crown Prince to put in a good word. Maybe Ah Nan won’t be punished and she might even be able to marry into the imperial family.” He had already thought of a way out. It was just that this mother and daughter had exploded like a cannonball and made it so that he was completely unable to express his intentions calmly. So in the current situation, he felt that if he properly explained his original intentions in detail, Liang Huai Yu would forgive him. After all, his original intentions had all been for the sake of the Marquis’ residence. For Gu Yu Qi to be able to marry into the imperial family in the future would be a great honour!
“Hah.” Liang Huai Yu could not help but chuckle when she heard his words, “Marquis really is calculating. To think of such a plan of killing two birds with one stone, preserving the Marquis’ residence while letting my daughter climb up to a high social status. I really admire it.” Her laughter was still as crisp and charming as when she was a young girl. It moved Gu Huai Zhong’s mind.
“So you don’t need to run like a disowned dog overnight. As long as you stay, this Marquis guarantees that I will not pursue everything that happened before. This Marquis will also find a way to get that divorce agreement back and we can still be a family!” Gu Huai Zhong eagerly took a few steps forward. Suddenly, he felt a chill and he subconsciously tilted his neck. Taking a closer look, he saw that the bright spear in Liang Huai Yu’s hand was already pointed at the front of his throat. The tip of the spear was only a finger’s width away from his skin. If it were not for his quick reaction, it was likely that it would have already stabbed him.
Even for Gu Huai Zhong, it was enough to make him break out in cold sweat, “You! Are you planning to murder your husband?” He said angrily.
“Husband?” Liang Huai Yu smiled coldly, “Are you worthy of being my husband? Don’t forget, we’re already divorced. To me, you’re nothing but a treacherous, timid, and stinky man.” She paused after speaking, “To be more accurate, you’re a nobody.”
“You really refuse to stay?” Gu Huai Zhong’s anger, which had subsided a little earlier, flared again from Liang Huai Yu’s few words. He glared angrily and spoke sharply.
“Is there anything here worth missing?” Liang Huai Yu smiled coldly.
“Alright then. Today, this Marquis will bind you up if I have to!” Gu Huai Zhong raised his hand to snatch Liang Huai Yu’s spear to take it away. Liang Huai Yu had long been on guard against him so how could she let him take it? Her spear slashed to the side and the two began to fight immediately.
The servants who followed Gu Huai Zhong looked at each other, not knowing if they should help or just watch. In desperation, they could only step back slightly in preparation. As long as the Marquis gave the order, they would leap up.
Now was the time. Seeing Gu Huai Zhong and Liang Huai Yu fighting, Gu Yu Qi immediately took advantage of everyone’s attention being drawn away by the husband and wife, and she made Chun Xing and the others follow her to slip out through the back door.
“Sister Chun Xing, Uncle Zhao Wu, let’s go grab the horses and carriages.” Gu Yu Qi was worried that Liang Huai Yu would not last long, so she said to Chun Xing quickly, “Have everyone else wait outside the back door.”
“Yes.” Zhao Wu responded immediately. He quickly handed the things he was holding to another guard, then followed Gu Yu Qi and Chun Xing to the stables in the backyard of the Marquis residence.
Chun Xing was worried about Gu Yu Qi’s ankle, however, Gu Yu Qi shook her head and said it was fine. What time was it now to worry about these sorts of things? Her ankle was really swollen and it hurt to run, but at such a critical moment, forget it being just a wound, she would run quickly even if it was a broken bone.
After reaching the stables, without saying a word, Gu Yu Qi used a karate chop to stun the servants who were watching the stables. She made Zhao Wu move them to the yard. Then she chose one of Gu Huai Zhong’s good horses to mount. She made Chun Xing lead all the other horses out and had Zhao Wu set up a carriage to drive. She said to Chun Xing, “Go to the north gate and wait for us. We’ll be there soon.”
“Yes!” Chun Xing was dexterous and was not fussy, so she immediately carried out Gu Yu Qi’s orders and led out a dozen horses. Zhao Wu followed, driving the carriage out of the Marquis’ residence.
Gu Yu Qi looked at the empty stables. Then she simply turned over all the lights on the wall with her long spear. There was oil in the lamps and grass in the stables. With this flip, the stables were on fire in an instant. Gu Yu Qi used the tip of her spear to pick up half a bucket of water, then she poured it on the face of a servant she had knocked out. The servant was muddle headed and then woken up. Looking in front of him, he was frightened and scrambled up from the ground. The stables were already set on fire and the flames soared into the sky. With the night wind, even the place where the hay was stored next to it was set aflame.
“Someone come! Fire!” The servant shouted as if his butt was on fire. Staggering and crawling, he ran out to find someone.
Gu Yu Qi shook the reins. Riding the horse with a silver spear, she sped towards Wan Xin Zhai.
Liang Huai Yu had good martial arts skills, but after all, she was not as strong as Gu Huai Zhong. Gu Huai Zhong had spent half his life in the army and had experienced countless battles, big and small. He naturally had much richer experiences of fighting than Liang Huai Yu. The longer the fight went on, the more Liang Huai Yu would gradually fall behind. However, her advantage was her familiarity with the Liang family’s marksmanship, and her agile and light posture so she still held on barely.
Just as she was getting more and more powerless, she suddenly heard the sound of hooves coming from behind. She and Gu Huai Zhong both stopped their movements and looked in the direction of the sound.
In the night, the moonlight was silvery and the lamplight looked like fireflies. A young teenage girl came galloping on a horse and the hooves of the steed seemed as if they did not touch the ground. She carried a silver spear and the tip was illuminated by the moonlight and lamplight, shining silver. She was as light and beautiful as a fairy walking down from a painting and there was a vigorous heroic spirit between those enchanting eyebrows. Wherever she went, the land shrouded in night seemed to bloom with gorgeous flowers. Like a dream.
That night, Gu Yu Qi’s heroic appearance left an indelible impression on the hearts of everyone present. She was so unreal yet she had truly passed by them on horseback. They barely caught a glimpse but they would never forget.
“Mother, let’s go!” After she rushed into Wan Xin Zhai, she pulled the bridle firmly and the horse came to a sudden halt. She stood up and Gu Yu Qi held the reins with one hand, the other holding the spear. Along with the horse standing tall, she looked valiant and heroic.
“Okay. Let’s go!” Liang Huai Yu smiled at her daughter. Then she flipped over and landed behind her. The mother and daughter did not stop for a moment. She turned the horse’s head and they rushed out.
Gu Huai Zhong was obviously stunned by everything in front of him. It was not until Liang Huai Yu mounted the horse and the two figures disappeared outside the gate of Wan Xin Zhai that he came back to his senses.
“Someone! Stop them!” He roared, jumping to his feet.
The servants looked at each other. They had already ran off, how could they stop them?
“Marquis, they were on horseback, this servant can’t stop them!” The courageous ones hurried forward to answer.
“You good-for-nothings!” Gu Huai Zhong was furious and said angrily. “Prepare the horses, prepare the horses!”
Just as he was clamouring to prepare the horses, someone stumbled over, “Marquis, this is bad, the backyard stable is on fire! The fire is too big and the rooms at the edges are already burnt.”
Gu Huai Zhong was immediately startled. Immediately afterwards, he gritted his teeth and said, “Are you still not going to put out the fire?!” He slapped the person next to him. Then he strode out of Wan Xin Zhai and looked towards the backyard. Sure enough, it was glowing red over there and half the night sky had been lit up. Outside of Wan Xin Zhai, he could even smell the burnt wood wafting in the air.
“Liang Huai Yu! Gu Yu Qi! I will never let you off!” Gu Huai Zhong roared as he stomped his feet in exasperation! Damn girl, just steal a horse then, but she even set fire to the Ding Yuan Marquis’ residence! It seemed like she was determined to never come back! Alright, since you both are ruthless, then I will no longer be righteous!
Gu Huai Zhong ignored Liu Yue who rushed over with a pale face. He ran angrily to the back door. There was a fire in the backyard and as soon as he stepped in, he could feel the waves of heat. Gu Huai Zhong rushed out the back door and let his swollen head calm down slightly. Then he looked at the dark alleys on both sides. This place was closest to the north gate. They must have gone to the north gate.
Gu Huai Zhong rushed all the way to the north gate.
