Reincarnated As An Ogre, I’m Going To Enjoy Life In This Other World! - Chapter 62
That night, I waited in front of the statue. I had hesitated at first, but I didn’t think the girl had any bad intentions, so I decided to go.
It seemed like there were no bars or taverns open at night in the Holy City. On my way here, I didn’t pass a single person, and the only lights I saw were the occasional ones from homes. It was almost pitch black.
I waited in front of the statue for about ten minutes, but no one came. I started thinking it was just a prank and was about to leave when I heard footsteps. Looking toward the sound, a figure cloaked in a robe with the hood pulled up appeared.
“I’m sorry… it seems I kept you waiting.”
The person looked at me briefly with just their eyes and apologized in a small voice. I recognized their voice as the person who had given me the paper at the cathedral.
“No, more importantly, is there something you need?”
When I asked, she put her index finger in front of her mouth and gestured for me to be quiet.
“I can’t talk here. I’m sorry, but can you follow me in silence?”
I could hear the seriousness in her tone, so I nodded and responded.
“Thank you, this way.”
I followed her, and after walking for a while, we arrived at a small convent.
“This is it.”
She walked into the convent, and I followed behind her. The interior was like a miniature version of the cathedral’s great hall.
She moved to the back of the hall and circled behind the altar. Then, crouching down, she touched the floor, and I heard a faint click as a hidden door opened.
Beyond the door, there were stairs that led into complete darkness, with nothing visible ahead. She muttered something under her breath, and a small glowing orb appeared in her palm. She must have used some kind of magic.
“Watch your head.”
I crouched down to avoid hitting my head and descended the stairs. Ahead was a long path, and at the end of it was a door, through which she entered.
“Please come in.”
Encouraged by her, I entered the room. It was a slightly larger space, furnished with chairs, a desk, a bed, and various other items.
Once inside, she finally removed her hood. A single braid, woven into one strand, emerged from under the hood. Letting out a sigh, she turned to face me.
“I’m sorry for the suddenness. Let me introduce myself first. I’m Aristera, the captain of the knights here in the Holy City of Phyllis.”
“The knight captain?!”
I was taken aback by her self-introduction.
“Ah, I’m Kingil. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Kingil, huh? Nice to meet you.”
Aristera extended her hand, and I shook it. Just then, another door opened, and a girl entered the room.
“Oh! Aris-chan! I’m happy! That person actually came!”
The girl was wearing a white robe, and her long silver hair swayed as she briskly walked over to Aristera.
“Huh? She is…?”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Luna, the Saintess of the Holy City Phyllis. Pleased to meet you.”
“I knew it! Wh-why!?”
I was completely confused by the appearance of these two, who seemed to hold important positions in the Holy City.
“Aris-chan, haven’t you explained it yet?”
“There’s no way I could explain in a place like that. I’ll explain now.”
Aristera cleared her throat with a small cough and then began speaking.
“Kingil, I apologize again for calling you in such a manner, and I’m grateful that you still came.”
“I also want to thank you. Thank you.”
“No…”
Being thanked by the Saintess made me shrink back in nervousness.
“I need you to keep what I’m about to say here confidential, alright?”
“Yes, I understand.”
“Now, let me explain.”
“Sit down,” she urged, and I took a seat on the sofa while the two of them sat on the opposite side. Then, Aristera’s face grew serious, and she began speaking.
