Reincarnated As An Ogre, I’m Going To Enjoy Life In This Other World! - Chapter 71
I made it to the cathedral and opened the door. Given that it was the middle of the night, the interior was pitch black, and I couldn’t make out anything.
“I came all the way to the cathedral, but what should I do now… it’s so dark I can’t see anything…”
Slowly, using my memory of when I came here before to guide me, the lights in the hall suddenly turned on.
“Huh? What’s going on? Why did the lights suddenly turn on…?”
As the whole hall became visible, I looked around and saw a figure standing at the altar in the back.
“Is that… Aris?”
I could only see her back, but the golden armor and braided blonde hair made me think it was Aris, so I started approaching.
“Aris, what are you doing?”
When I called out to her, Aris turned around.
“Ah, it’s you, Kingil… Sorry, I had to take care of something urgent.”
“Is that so? Well, I suppose it’s fine…”
“More importantly, could you follow me?”
“Huh? Ah, sure…”
Saying that, Aris suddenly started walking, and I hurried to follow her. Then, without warning, Aris spun around and swung her sword horizontally.
“Wha—!”
I narrowly avoided it by pulling my body back at the last second.
“What are you doing!? Aris!”
I yelled at Aris, but she didn’t move, staying frozen in the position after swinging her sword.
“Aris?”
As I wondered what was going on, the door opened, and two people entered. One was Luna, and the other was a man I didn’t recognize.
“Such a shame, it would have been great if I could’ve killed you just now.”
The man grinned as he walked closer, while Luna silently followed him from behind.
“Who the hell are you?”
I felt an ominous presence and immediately entered a combat-ready stance.
“My name is Roin. I am the vice-captain of the knights here in the Holy City.”
The man who introduced himself as Roin bowed politely.
“Is it because of you that Aris is acting so strange?”
“Yes, she’s my puppet now, and so is this Saintess here.”
Roin says this while looking at Luna behind him.
“A puppet, huh?”
“Yes, it’s my Gift, ‘Puppet Master.’ Those who are attached with my magical threads become my puppets. The range of the threads is limited, but once attached, I can control them at will!”
Roin glances at me suspiciously.
“You’re Kingil, right? I heard from the Saintess that you’ve been helping the two of them. Since you seem to be a hindrance to Lord Gebhardt’s plan, I’ll have to make you disappear.”
Roine gestures with his fingers like a conductor, and Aris, who had been standing still, starts moving and swings her sword at me.
“Aris! Snap out of it!”
“It’s pointless. She’s completely under my control.”
“If that’s the case, I’ll just attack you directly!”
Ignoring Aris, I charged toward Roin, but Luna stepped in between us, spreading her arms as if to protect him.
“Luna!”
As I hesitated to attack, Aris came from behind and tried to stab me with her sword.
“Hmph!”
I grabbed the tip of her sword and, with all my strength, shattered it.
“What?”
Even Roin was surprised by this, and let out a confused voice.
“You have quite a sturdy body, huh? Not even a scratch from grabbing the sword—are all unique ogres like this?”
“With this, Aris can’t fight. And with my speed, I can slip past Luna and attack you—just give up.”
Roin lets out a soft chuckle, his throat making a sound.
“You’re not getting it… Kingil. Both of them are my puppets, and I can make them do things like this.”
When Roin moves his fingers, Aris assumes a stance and points the broken sword at her own neck.
“Wha—! Wait!
“Now then, what will you do? If you try to attack me even a little, she will die.”
Roin grins, confident of his victory, and takes out a knife, throwing it at me.
“Stab your own eye with this! It may not go through your skin, but surely it will pierce your eye.”
“Damn it!”
“What’s wrong? Can’t do it? Then she will die!”
I pick up the knife and point it toward my own eye.
(I have no choice but to do this…!)
When I gathered strength into the knife and aimed to stab,
“Eh?”
I saw Luna’s hand move behind Roin, and maybe noticing my gaze, Roin turned around.
“What!? Why are you—!”
“Take this!”
Luna released an arrow of light from her hand, sending Roin flying.
“Ugh! Damn it!”
Roin moves his fingers, and Aris rushes toward Luna, trying to strike her with her sword.
“Ah!”
I quickly dashed forward, grabbed Luna, and took distance from the two of them.
“Thank you, you saved me.”
“Yeah, but wasn’t Luna being controlled…?”
“That’s right! Why can you move? You were supposed to be my puppet!”
Roin points at Luna and asks, and Luna glares at him.
“Yes, I was certainly controlled, but when you used your ability on me, I cast a spell to protect my mind, and while under control, I was still chipping away at your control!”
“What did you say?!”
“Even when I was controlled, my consciousness was still intact…”
Luna closes her eyes as tears start to stream down her face.
“To Aris… how could you do such a thing to Aris-chan!? I will never forgive you, Roin!!!”
Luna wipes away her tears, her usual calm replaced by an anger so intense it’s unimaginable, and screams at Roin.
“You won’t forgive me? I admit I was surprised by the deactivation of my powers, but we still have Aristera. If you do anything, she’ll die, nothing’s changed!”
“Indeed… Luna, what will we do?”
“Kingil! Let me touch Aris-chan. I got the hang of the deactivation earlier, and if I can touch her directly, I can deactivate his power!”
“What?”
When Luna says this, Roin looks surprised, but quickly regains his composure.
“Truly, the power of a Saintess is troublesome… I wasn’t planning on using it here, but it seems I’ll have to eliminate you thoroughly.”
As Roin says this, suddenly the sound of rushing footsteps from outside the cathedral fills the air.
“What’s that?”
Luna and I glance toward the sound of the footsteps, and the doors to the cathedral fly open as a large number of people flood into the hall.
“Why… are there so many people?”
As Luna looks puzzled, Roin lets out a loud laugh.
“Hahaha! I told you, right? Once I attach it, I can control them at will. I wonder if you can handle all the people in the Holy City?”
“When did you manage to control all these people? Wait, could it be!!”
Luna’s eyes widen as if she realized something.
“The morning service…”
“Correct! It wasn’t easy, attaching the strings to each person attending the service!”
Luna’s face contorts with frustration at Roin’s words.
“But, it was worth the effort. Almost everyone in the Holy City is now my puppets.”
The hall is filled with a large crowd, all of them staring at Kingil and Luna.
“Now, go! Kill the ogre and the Saintess!”
At Roin’s command, the people surrounding Kingil and Luna charge toward them all at once.
