☆5 Taking the Guild Exam
On the way to Eldora, the capital of Celestia. A vast grassland and a beautiful lake spread out before me. They created a landscape rich in nature.
The clear air and pleasant breeze gave me a sense that my adventure was just beginning.
Traveling on foot was a bit tiring. But it allowed me to fully enjoy the scenery. Along the way, vibrant flowers bloomed in full glory. And the chirping of birds echoed pleasantly in my ears.
From time to time, I took breaks in the shade. I picked and ate the fruits gifted by nature and roasted small animals whole to satisfy my hunger as I continued forward.
Upon entering the city of Eldora, I was greeted by cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and a bustling atmosphere. The Adventurer’s Guild was located slightly outside the city center. When I arrived, its impressive structure caught my eye.
I informed the receptionist that I wanted to register. She gave me a slightly skeptical look—apparently, she thought I was too young.
To register, I had to take a skill test. Normally, adventurers start at rank D, the lowest of the five ranks: S, A, B, C, and D.
When asked for my name, I introduced myself as “Souta”.
I had been given a strange name in the dark elf village. But it didn’t sit right with me. So, I had it changed to the name from my previous life.
The receptionist then asked for my surname. But dark elves didn’t have the custom of using family names.
After a brief moment of thought, I decided to use the same surname as in my previous life: “Amagi”.
Led by the receptionist, I headed to the testing area. It was a small, circular arena. The ceiling was high, and the space felt open. But there were no spectator seats. It gave it a somewhat barren impression.
I was told to wait while they called for the examiner.
After a while, a middle-aged man who appeared to be the examiner arrived.
After a brief self-introduction, he immediately asked,
“What is your mana’s attribute?”
I had no idea. In fact, I wanted to know that myself.
So I answered honestly,
“I don’t know.”
The examiner looked slightly surprised but said,
“Then let’s try an identification test.”
He left for a moment and returned holding a metallic-looking object.
It was called Elemental Gold.
Apparently, if I directed my mana into it, my attribute would be revealed.
Following his explanation, I channeled my mana into the metal.
…
………………??
Nothing happened.
It didn’t get hot or cold, nor did it glow. Its brightness didn’t increase either.
Seriously!?
Frustrated, I grabbed the metal—and it went all soft.
It had transformed into a squishy, jelly-like substance.
“Huh?? What is this?”
I asked the examiner.
Looking flustered, he responded,
“Uh… I have no idea. I’ve never seen anything like this before, but it’s definitely something unusual.”
He took the metal in his hands and carefully examined it. He was furrowing his brows with a serious expression.
“I think your mana is an extremely rare case. I’ve been an examiner for about twenty years, but I’ve never seen or heard of a transformation like this before. It’s possible that you possess an attribute that hasn’t even been discovered yet.”
Oh, really?
So, I have to figure it out myself?
“That being said, your mana’s power is on an absurd level. Just based on that, I’d say you have the potential of an A-rank… no, even an S-rank. You might be so unique that we don’t even have anyone qualified to train you.”
The examiner spoke with a mix of astonishment and respect.
His gaze carried a hint of awe toward the sheer potential of my mana.
“However… it’s completely unrefined. It feels like you’re struggling to control it. Your mana is like a raging storm. You need to understand it and find a way to control it yourself.”
His tone conveyed genuine concern for my future.
“That said, with this much power, you probably won’t find yourself in too much danger. So I’ll place you in A-rank for now. Normally, you’d have to demonstrate your strength. But in your case, there’s a risk I might get injured. So I’ll waive that requirement.
Oh, and just to be clear, no matter how strong you are, you can’t become S-rank right away. You have to build up achievements as an A-rank first. It’s not that I’m underestimating you, so don’t misunderstand, okay?”
“I see, got it. By the way, what are the benefits of being A-rank?”
“There are requests that only A-rank and above can take. Naturally, they’re more dangerous. But the rewards match the risk—you could earn several gold coins per job. For B-rank and below, the maximum you can get is about one gold coin.”
One gold coin is worth about a hundred silver coins. So in terms of my previous life in Japan, that’s roughly a million yen?
If I can earn multiple gold coins per job, I could easily sustain myself by taking on just two or three requests a year.
And with that, I officially became an A-rank adventurer.
There are also many places that only A-rank or higher can access.
Normally, adventurers have to work their way up step by step. But I got lucky and had those restrictions lifted all at once.
I want to strike it rich as soon as possible, then take it easy—living a carefree life without having to worry about anyone else.
I don’t need a luxurious mansion, nor do I plan on indulging in extravagance.
Just cooking the food I like, drinking during the day, taking naps, and enjoying a laid-back lifestyle.
I mean, I was already drinking back in the dark elf village when I was around thirteen.
And if I ever run out of money, I’ll just take on another request and earn just enough to get by.
For now, that’s my goal—a life of absolute freedom.
