☆6 Encounter with Elysia
Alright, so I successfully became an adventurer—but now what?
For now, I received a stack of request forms from the receptionist that I was eligible to take.
As I picked up the list and headed to an open table, I noticed the atmosphere around me getting noisy.
Groups of adventurers were whispering amongst themselves while stealing glances at me from a distance.
It seemed word had already spread that I was suddenly ranked A. It was causing a mix of shock and confusion.
I couldn’t blame them.
According to what I heard during the registration briefing, adventurers numbered in the tens of thousands worldwide. Yet, less than 1% were A-rank. Normally, getting to A-rank required extraordinary skill and experience. But I had been placed there right from the start.
By the way, there were apparently only about ten S-rank adventurers in the entire world.
…Ugh, these stares are annoying.
The meal I ordered arrived. So, I started eating while browsing through the request forms. But the attention I was getting only became more noticeable.
I couldn’t even eat in peace.
People kept glancing at me, whispering among themselves.
They probably wanted to recruit me but weren’t confident they were on my level.
Then, someone approached me without making a sound—a person who exuded the presence of a seasoned warrior.
“Hey, you.”
Wow, straight-up hostile from the get-go, huh?
I looked up to see a tall, muscular man standing before me.
His short-cropped blonde hair and sharp gaze were striking. His ears were slightly pointed.
An elf.
I always imagined elves as slender and delicate. But I guess there were some bulky ones too.
He was dressed in a leather jacket with a thick belt and sturdy boots.
“Lady Elysia over there wishes to speak with you. Come with me.”
Who the hell is this guy?
And why is he acting so high and mighty?
I turned to look in the direction he indicated and saw a slender elf woman. She had amber-colored hair that shimmered elegantly.
She was wearing light adventurer’s gear. But even with her practical outfit, she carried an air of refinement.
She had an unmistakable aura of nobility and authority.
“If she wants to talk, tell her to come here herself.”
“You bastard! Do you even realize who you’re speaking to?”
Nope, not a clue.
We went back and forth like that for a while. It was until the elf woman herself walked over to my table with her attendant in tow. She was seemingly growing impatient.
The surrounding men gawked at her beauty. They were practically drooling.
“Gald, enough. You’re disturbing the other guests. Keep quiet.”
Her voice was cold and sharp.
“M-My apologies. I simply lost my temper when a lowly human dared to talk back.”
The muscular elf, now identified as Gald, immediately knelt and bowed deeply.
“You there, what is your name?”
She asked me with a soft smile, her amber eyes narrowing slightly.
Her refined features and graceful movements exuded the elegance and charm unique to elves.
Her fair, flawless skin and long lashes accentuated her eyes. While her amber hair glowed under the indoor lighting.
“Lady Elysia! You must not bother remembering the name of a lowly human!”
A petite female elf standing beside Elysia protested in a flustered manner.
……..…What’s with these guys?
“Lowly” this, “lowly” that.
Are humans considered beneath elves in this world?
There was no such discrimination in the dark elf village.
“I’m Souta.”
Well, since she actually came all the way over here, I figured I might as well tell her my name.
“Souta, did anything in that request list interest you?”
“Not really. I skimmed through some, but nothing caught my eye.”
“You insolent wretch! How dare you speak to Lady Elysia in such a manner?! If you don’t know your place, I will teach you right now!”
Gald turned red with rage. He nearly lunged at me.
His eyes burned with fury, and his clenched fists trembled.
“Gald. Be silent.”
“M-My deepest apologies…”
Gald lowered his head.
Though his face still showed lingering frustration, it seemed he couldn’t go against Elysia’s orders.
He bowed deeply. He unclenched his fists and exhaled slowly.
“Now then, Souta. Would you be interested in assisting me with a job? I will offer you a sum greater than all the requests on that list combined.”
Oh?
“What kind of job?”
I was a little intrigued, so I decided to ask.
“I’m a summoner, and I aim to form contracts with powerful spirits from all over the world. However, the reality is that contracting with higher spirits is difficult with just our own power. Even though I’m an A-rank, it’s still not enough. Recently, I obtained some valuable information. So I’d like to ask you to come with us and lend us your strength.”
Hmm…
“And how much exactly is the reward?”
“If the mission is successful, I’ll pay you 10 gold coins. Of course, we’ll also cover your lodging and meal expenses along the way.”
Wait, 10 gold coins?
That’s roughly 10 million yen?! Just like that?!
The other requests I looked at earlier were offering around 10 silver coins, maybe 50 at best… But now, I’m suddenly one step closer to my dream of owning a countryside home.
Still…
“What exactly does ‘cooperating’ involve?”
“Summoning a high-ranking spirit requires a massive amount of mana. Even if we pool all of ours together, it’s not enough. So, we’ll need you to supply your mana during the summoning.”
Huh, I just have to provide mana?
That doesn’t sound too bad.
If she had said I needed to fight the spirit, that would’ve been a different story.
“Alright. You’ve got yourself a hire.”
“Thank you.”
Elysia gave me a radiant smile and extended her hand.
Her hand was warm and carried a certain strength.
Meanwhile, Gald was glaring at me. His face was bright red.
He’s probably thinking something like, “How dare a lowly human touch Lady Elysia?!”
I already know I won’t get along with these two attendants. But for 10 gold coins, I can put up with it.
And just like that, I became Elysia’s hired help.
