☆19 Building a House in Celestia ②
The craftsmen that Fia had arranged were, as expected, top-tier professionals.
My house was a simple, single-story stone structure reinforced with cement. It had only the basics: a bedroom, a guest room, a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom, and a bath.
A large house would just be a pain to clean.
Beside the house, there was also a spacious storage shed.
Since I planned to let Kagutsuchi roam freely, I didn’t bother building a doghouse.
But for some reason, right next to my house, Elysia was in the middle of constructing a mansion that looked like a grand castle.
When was that thing even going to be finished?
From the looks of it, it was going to take a long time—completely different from my house.
It was at least ten times the size of my place. It was as if it was emphasizing the sheer difference in our status.
It was supposed to be just a vacation home, so it wasn’t like she’d be living there regularly. How was she planning to maintain it?
And seriously, why build it so close when there’s so much land available?
Now my house looks like a doghouse in comparison……….
Kagutsuchi, on the other hand, seemed to be able to absorb not only my mana, but also some natural mana flowing from the lush surroundings. That meant it wouldn’t go hungry even when I wasn’t around.
So, it had been about three months since I left the dark elf settlement.
I had managed to secure my own home much sooner than expected.
That said, even though I got the land on a loan, I had spent all my money on materials for the house and other necessities. Now, I was down to just one gold coin and a few silvers.
Yeah… I’d have to take on another job soon.
As I sat on my couch, playing with Kagutsuchi and contemplating my next move, Elysia suddenly barged into my house without even knocking.
She had zero hesitation.
It was like she already considered this place her own.
“Souta, I have to return to my country for a little while. So, take it easy until our next adventure. I won’t restrict your activities too much. But remember, for now, you’re still under an exclusive contract with me.”
Ah, right… that contract.
Come to think of it, she never told me how much I had to pay to be free from it.
“Got it. I’ll be ready to leave whenever you get back. But I still need to make a living, so I should be able to take on small errands, right?”
Elysia thought for a moment before replying.
“That should be fine, as long as they’re not too dangerous. I’ll be training while I’m back in my country. I’ll be working to fully unleash Agni’s potential. Next time we meet, I’ll be strong enough to surprise you.”
And so, the next day, Elysia left with her two attendants. They headed back to her homeland.
For the first time in a while, I felt truly free.
Liberated.
Now, what to do?
Maybe I’d go into town to buy some groceries. And then, I’d stop by the guild while I was at it to check for any good job postings.
With that plan in mind, I took Kagutsuchi for a walk toward Eldora.

The city was as lively as ever.
Merchants were shouting energetically, trying to attract customers from all directions.
Strolling along the stone-paved streets, I first made my way to the guild.
“Hey, isn’t that…?”
“Wait, that’s Souta Amagi, right?”
I could hear people whispering about me.
It reminded me of the day I first registered at the guild.
I’d only been here a few times—how the hell did everyone already know my face?
Did they put up some kind of wanted poster of me or something?
Ignoring them, I walked up to the receptionist and asked for the job request list.
While sorting through the papers, she casually struck up a conversation.
“You’ve been making quite a name for yourself, Amagi-san.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“You and Lilith Starseeker co-authored a complete map of the ‘Great Southern Chasm’, didn’t you?”
Oh yeah, she did mention making a map.
It was already finished?
S-rank adventurers really worked fast.
And to think she actually included my name in the credits—she was surprisingly considerate.
“Nah, I barely did anything. Honestly, it’s kind of embarrassing to be acknowledged for that…”
But it was what it was.
I need to improve myself even more.
“Fufu, don’t be so modest. Here, Amagi-san, take this. If you find a request you’d like to take on, please come back to the counter.”
The receptionist smiled warmly and handed me a stack of papers.
I took them and moved to an empty table to look through them.
Flipping through the pages, I skimmed the listings.
“Escort to the Northern Findia Empire” – 70 silver coins.
The pay was decent, but the distance was too far.
Hmm………. Since I had no idea when Elysia would return, I had to pass on this one.
If she came back and I wasn’t around, she’d probably get mad.
…Wait, I just realized I forgot to ask when she’d be back.
“Goblin extermination in Falna Village” – 15 silver coins.
Isn’t this a job for Goblin Slayer?
Also, Goblins exist in this world too?
They probably stink—pass.
“Deliver a package to an old man living in a nearby hidden area” – 10 silver coins.
Not a bad job, but………. I have no sense of direction.
I’d probably get lost and never make it back.
Putting this one on hold.
I kept flipping through similar requests, none of them really standing out—until I saw this one:
“Cat adoption. A-rank or higher adventurers only” – 1 gold coin.
“My daughter has been taking care of this kitten. But due to unavoidable circumstances, we can no longer keep it. We are looking for someone who can take responsibility and raise it with care.”
Huh? This sounds pretty good.
Might even be a good playmate for Kagutsuchi.
Might as well hear the details.
So this is one of the perks of being A-rank, huh?
Guess it means a high level of trust in society.
Without hesitation, I returned to the receptionist and told her I’d take on the cat adoption request.
