Reincarnated as Twins: And Then, I Was the Only One Abandoned - ☆20 Adopting a Cat
☆20 Adopting a Cat
The client for this request lived just outside the city area of Eldora.
Following the map, I arrived at an impressive mansion.
Surrounded by sturdy stone walls and a beautiful garden, the estate had a well-maintained flower bed and a fountain visible as I passed through the gate.
In the back of the garden stood a large tree with a wooden bench placed beneath it.
Knocking on the aged wooden door, I was greeted by a butler. He courteously ushered me inside. I tied Kagutsuchi up in the stable.
The spacious hall was illuminated by a luxurious chandelier-like fixture. And old paintings and tapestries decorated the walls.
“Ah, welcome. I’m glad you came.”
Upon being led into an extravagant guest room, a man who appeared to be in his forties stood up to greet me.
His name was Viscount Vil Van Rosen.
Dressed in an elegant, high-quality loungewear outfit, he had an air of refinement.
I briefly introduced myself, and we shook hands.
“An A-rank adventurer at such a young age—impressive. According to the guild’s letter of introduction, you even co-authored a map with the famous Lilith Starseeker.”
“Yes, well, I only assisted in a small way.”
The “Lilith Effect” was real.
If I downplayed it too much, the conversation might get annoying. So I just brushed it off casually.
“Let’s get to the point. Where do you live?”
“About a ten-minute carriage ride from Eldora’s city area, near a lake. I think it would be a great environment for a cat to play in.”
Might as well emphasize the positives.
“Oh, that sounds like a lovely place. Then I can be at ease. My daughter will probably want to visit from time to time as well.”
The viscount then called for the butler and instructed him to bring his daughter and the cat.
In the center of the room, a beautifully arranged vase of flowers sat atop a large table.
A short while later, a girl entered. She was about seven years old. She was holding a slightly larger-than-usual kitten in her arms.
She had long blonde hair tied with a ribbon and wore a soft, frilly dress.
Her striking blue eyes and rosy cheeks gave her a healthy, vibrant appearance.
Her graceful movements spoke of a refined upbringing.
She introduced herself as Aiza.
“And this little one is called Vald.”
The kitten in her arms stared at me with wary black eyes. It made no attempt to hide its suspicion.
Its entire body was covered in short golden fur. And upon closer inspection, it had tiny horns on its head.
Its tail was long and fluffy at the tip.
“A traveling merchant who visited our home last month brought this kitten with him.”
The viscount began to explain.
“He introduced it as a rare breed, and Aiza fell in love with it at first sight. We decided to buy it on the spot. But before long, we noticed something unusual—it wouldn’t eat.”
He paused for a moment.
“At first, we thought it would start eating eventually since it was running around energetically. But no matter what food we prepared, it wouldn’t even glance at it. Then, after a while, the people in this household began experiencing unexplained fatigue and weakness.”
Huh, I think I see where this is going…
“Sensing something was off, we had an expert examine it. It turns out this kitten is actually a magical beast. It doesn’t eat regular food because it sustains itself by absorbing our mana.”
Yep, called it.
“Aiza loves this kitten dearly, so we wanted to find a way to keep it. But it turns out it’s a species called a Behemoth.
In just a few years, it will grow into an enormous, dangerous magical beast. If it’s already draining this much mana as a kitten, there’s no way we can keep it once it reaches full size.
That’s why we consulted the guild. The guild strongly advised us to have it put down while it’s still a kitten, but… there was no way we could do that.”
A Behemoth??
Like the huge lion-like monster from Final Fantasy?

Would Elysia be mad if I took this thing in?
Then again, she accepted Kagutsuchi, a Hellhound, without much fuss. So maybe it’d be fine.
“Understood. I’ll take full responsibility for raising it.”
Getting a gold coin and adopting such an adorable kitten? There was no way I was turning this down.
“Oh, that’s a relief! Thank you!”
The viscount beamed and eagerly extended his hand for a handshake.
Aiza reluctantly handed the kitten over to me. But the little thing stubbornly resisted with its big paws. It was clearly not happy about it.
Was it just shy?
“Does the Adventurer-san’s house have a big yard? Vald loves running around outside and climbing trees.”
“It’s insanely big, so don’t worry. There’s even a forest nearby. You can come visit anytime to check on it.”
Hearing that, Aiza’s eyes sparkled. And she nodded enthusiastically with a happy “Okay!”
As I carried Vald outside the mansion, Aiza followed along.
The moment she spotted Kagutsuchi, who was tied up at the stable, she sprinted straight toward it.
She really seemed to love animals.
“Wow! What a rare doggy! Its red eyes are so cute!”
She asked excitedly while stroking Kagutsuchi’s head.
“Does it live with you too?”
“Yeah, it does. It’ll probably become friends with Vald in no time.”
A Hellhound and a Behemoth……… Quite the dangerous combo.
Actually, not just “a bit”—this was going to be seriously dangerous.
But, well, I’d figure something out.
After receiving my reward of one gold coin from the viscount, I quickly sketched a rough map to my house and handed it to Aiza.
“Alright then, see you later, Aiza. Feel free to visit anytime.”
After saying our goodbyes and leaving the estate, I suddenly remembered—I still hadn’t bought any groceries.
So, I turned my steps toward the marketplace.
