☆21 Elysia’s Souvenir
It had been nearly a month since I took in Vald.
Absorbing my mana, it had grown rapidly and was already the size of an adult Maine Coon. He seemed to have become good playmates with Kagutsuchi. They would run around and wrestle together.

By the way, Kagutsuchi had already grown to about the size of a Doberman. So I could no longer treat it like a puppy.

The fire mana that Kagutsuchi had begun to unconsciously scatter around was starting to feel dangerous. To keep the premises safe, I decided to place magical tools infused with water mana throughout the area.
They were designed to automatically spray water when they detected fire.
Of course, I installed them inside the house as well.
This should give me some peace of mind.
Meanwhile, whenever Vald spotted an insect or small animal, it would bark at it and release something like an energy wave or shockwave from its mouth.
I couldn’t afford to let my neighbor Elysia’s mansion get damaged. So I set up a barrier reinforced with special mana between our homes.
Because of all this, while I didn’t have to worry about food costs, incidental expenses had easily burned through a gold coin.
The cost of setting up magic tools and reinforcing the barrier was more than I had expected.
To make ends meet, I would occasionally stop by the guild, take on simple requests, and earn some daily wages.
The guild had all sorts of jobs—sometimes hunting magical beasts, other times gathering medicinal herbs.
Aiza would visit at least once a week. She played happily not only with Vald but also with Kagutsuchi.
Her attendants, on the other hand, were pale-faced. They were constantly terrified that these magical beasts might attack them at any moment.
As I was welcoming Aiza again today, the door suddenly burst open with a *BANG!*—without so much as a knock.
I jumped in surprise and turned around to see Elysia entering. She was carrying a basket.
“Souta, I have returned… Oh my, who might these people be?”
Her gaze immediately fell on Aiza. Aiza had been playing with Vald on the sofa, along with the attendants standing by her side.
“Oh, welcome back. Um, I recently started raising a baby Behemoth, and these are the previous owner and her attendants. They come by to visit from time to time.”
“Behe…!!”
For a brief moment, Elysia’s face twisted in shock. But she quickly regained her usual composure, let out a sigh, and said,
“I thought I had grown immune to being surprised by whatever you do. But, I must admit this caught me off guard. And that young lady can play with a Behemoth without fear? She might grow up to be quite remarkable.”
After a brief exchange of introductions between Aiza and Elysia, Elysia placed the basket on the table and pulled out an absurdly large egg.
“This is a souvenir. It was discovered deep in the mountains of my homeland. Even our nation’s most esteemed scholars had never seen such a large egg before. They studied it from every possible angle, but its true nature remains unknown.
However, they found that the egg’s ability to absorb mana has been growing stronger by the day… It was deemed dangerous, so the decision was made to dispose of it before it hatched.”
With a bright smile, Elysia continued,
“But it would be far too cruel to get rid of something that hasn’t even been born yet, don’t you think? So, I decided to take it and give it to you as a present, Souta.”
HEY!!
Isn’t it *dangerous*??
What do you take me for??
My home isn’t a magical beast sanctuary!
Aiza curiously ran her hands over the egg. She was inspecting it with great interest.
Elysia watched her with a gentle smile. But she then suddenly turned to me with a sharp, piercing gaze and asked,
“By the way, I noticed something before coming here……… What is that wall between our houses? I don’t recall giving any instructions to build such a thing.”
“Oh, that? Well, Vald started shooting out some kind of energy wave from its mouth, and I didn’t want it accidentally damaging your house………… Repairs would probably be ridiculously expensive.”
Elysia looked slightly taken aback.
“I see…You really didn’t need to worry about that. For a moment, I thought you were trying to build a psychological barrier between us.”
What the hell is a *psychological* barrier?!
“Anyway, I’ve decided on the location for our next adventure. It will be in a small provincial city in Silenia, the neighboring country to the east of Valhalion.
My attendants should arrive here in a few days. So please make sure you’re ready by then.”
With that, Elysia stood up and left—like a storm passing through. She said she needed to tidy up her house
And on the table, all that remained was the massive, ominously glowing egg.
