☆33 Lilith’s Invitation
By the time early summer arrived in Celestia, the area had grown considerably livelier.
Houses had been built across the vast land, farmlands had expanded, and even livestock like cows and chickens were being raised. Several blacksmith workshops sent plumes of smoke into the sky. And even a gathering hall had been constructed. These were all people sent by the Duke of Eldora as part of the ongoing exchange between their lands.
Now, there was no longer a need to travel all the way to Eldora just to obtain goods—many necessities could be found here. Additionally, merchants from Eldora came regularly to trade.
The Shadow Raiders had graduated from farming and were now serving as a security and hunting unit. They patrolled the vast territory. Thanks to their efforts, fresh meat was always available.
As for the magical beasts, they were left to roam freely.
Kagutsuchi had grown to about two meters in size and occasionally accompanied the Shadow Raiders on hunts.
Vald, on the other hand, was even larger—already surpassing three meters. When it ran at full speed, the ground trembled beneath it .
Aiza would sometimes visit. She loved riding on Vald’s back as it ran around. Watching them, I always felt nervous, wondering if she’d get thrown off.
Then there was Rubis.
When it spread its wings, they stretched about three meters wide. Covered in flaming mana, it soared gracefully through the sky.
The elves had taken one look at him and immediately concluded: “This is definitely a Phoenix.”
That aside, I’d also noticed something interesting—perhaps because these creatures had been raised with my mana, they followed my commands without question.
Even without speaking, if I willed them to return, they would. If I told them to patrol the area, they would divide up and do so.
If I ever ordered them to attack someone… well, that would be a disaster.
Sometimes, Elysia dragged me along on her Demon God Hunts. But every time, the intel turned out to be fake. My debt wasn’t decreasing at all.
She came to my house every single day and casually ate the food I cooked…….… I wonder if that at least counted toward repaying some of my loan?
Other than that, my daily life was completely lazy.
As the leader of the Shadow Raiders, I received operational funds from Elysia. Since she left the salary distribution to me, I made sure to set aside a generous personal allowance for myself.
I wasn’t doing much… but hey, I was still the boss.
Was this what they called a slow life?
Or maybe… FIRE? (Financial Independence, Retire Early?)
Either way, this was the best.
As I was enjoying my carefree sixteenth summer, I suddenly noticed a faint red glow—something I had nearly forgotten about.
It was the phone-like device Lilith had given me.
“Hey, it’s been a while. How are things?”
“Long time no see. Well, I’m managing somehow.”
“That’s good to hear. So, I’m in Zephyria right now, and I’ve taken on a rather interesting request. How about you and that elf girl come along?”
Zephyria Empire.
A great nation located northwest of Valhalion.
Its vast territory was known for its rich natural resources and diverse cultures. It had flourished as a major hub of trade since ancient times.
The imperial capital, Zephyrion, was famous for its magnificent palaces and bustling markets. It attracted countless travelers and merchants.
Hmm… what should I do?
Well, I’m not busy or anything. Might as well go.
“Got it. I’ll check with Elysia and get back to you.”
Hanging up, I headed straight to Elysia’s mansion.
Standing before the gate, I pressed the doorbell button.
After a brief wait, a butler-like voice responded.
“Yes, may I ask what business you have?”
“Oh, it’s Souta. I need to talk to Elysia.”
The butler’s displeasure was clear in his cold tone—probably because I had casually called her by name.
“Lady Elysia is currently occupied. If you leave a message, we can—”
Before he could even finish, a familiar voice cut in over the intercom.
“Step aside. Souta? What is it?”
“Lilith just contacted me. She’s inviting us to join her on a mission.”
“I’M GOING!!! I’ll get ready right away—just let Lilith know!”
After confirming my agreement, I thought for a moment and then headed to Kai’s log cabin.
Kai’s home was deep in the forest. It was surrounded by a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
Passing through the trees, I finally reached the cabin—where I found Kai outside, chopping firewood.
“Kai, I’m heading to Zephyria. Would you come along?”
Kai’s face lit up with excitement as he responded.
“Boss, if it’s your request, I’ll follow you anywhere. If my strength can be of use, nothing would make me happier.”
“Oh, thanks. Once you’re done adjusting the Shadow Raiders’ daily operations, come to my place.”
With that, I turned and headed back home.
*What about the three magical beasts?*
It was definitely impossible for Gald to take care of all three on his own this time.
As I was preparing for the journey, Elysia arrived. She had a backpack on her shoulders.
“Elysia, about Kagutsuchi and the others—I don’t think Gald alone can handle them this time.”
“Don’t worry. This time, I’ve arranged for Noah and Yuna to help out as well. I’ve already told them to work together.”
…Seriously?
She worked fast.
If those two were joining in, then things would probably be fine.
A little while later, Kai arrived. His eyes were shining with excitement. He had his own backpack strapped on.
With everything set, the three of us climbed into the carriage that Elysia had prepared.
This was shaping up to be our first real adventure in a long time.
The Zephyria Empire, huh.
Living a slow life for too long had started to get boring, I had to admit.
Now, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement at the thought of stepping into uncharted territory.
