☆40 Vampire Extermination ④
The dimly lit mansion was once again enveloped in silence.
Lilith lay sprawled out on the floor in a starfish position, trying to catch her ragged breath.
I had also exhausted all my strength in restraining Kistopia—I was completely drained.
Eventually, Lilith let out a deep breath and spoke.
Moonlight filtered through the window. It softly illuminated her face.
“I underestimated vampires far too much. There’s plenty for me to reflect on for next time.”
“How did the ones before us even manage to take them down…?”
I sighed, sharing her exhaustion.
“Vampires grow stronger with age. Judging by that old-fashioned way of speaking, Kistopia must’ve lived for at least a few hundred years. She was definitely one of the top-tier vampires.”
Lilith let out another sigh before continuing.
“In any case, I owe you a huge debt this time. I will return the favor. If you ever need me, I promise I will prioritize helping you above all else.”
“That’s a huge relief… though, I’d rather not end up in a situation where I actually need to call on you.”
Would a time ever come when I’d have to rely on Lilith’s power?
“Souta!!! Are you alright?!”
Elysia’s voice echoed from the entrance of the mansion.
Her hurried footsteps pounded against the floor as she ran toward us.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just completely wiped out.”
I responded lightheartedly, still lying on the floor.
Elysia rushed over. Her face was full of concern. And she began inspecting my body. She was checking every inch for injuries. Once she confirmed I was unharmed, she let out a deep sigh of relief.
“You weren’t coming back, so I was really worried…….… but I’m glad you’re safe.”
Then, looking me straight in the eyes, she asked seriously,
“Can you explain what happened?”
I shrugged and gave a small chuckle.
“Yeah, sure. But let’s wait until we get back to the others.”
I’d just have to explain it all again over there anyway.
Once Lilith had recovered enough to walk, we made our way back to the village entrance.
There, we found Kai, Orion, Elios, and Lucian sitting on the ground. They were chatting and laughing—completely relaxed. It was a stark contrast to how drained we were.
“Oh, you’re back. Good work.”
Elios greeted us cheerfully.
“Man, I wish I could’ve seen that vampire boss for myself.”
His carefree comment irritated me. But I held back my frustration.
Seriously? Looking at us like this, how could he say something so casual?
For now, I decided to leave the report about the battle to Lilith.

Once Lilith finished recounting what had happened, the group fell into complete silence.
Only the distant sound of insects chirping filled the night.
A cold breeze rustled through the grass as the vast starry sky stretched above us.
“No way… That’s insane… I can’t even imagine Lilith nearly getting killed…”
Elios muttered in disbelief, and the others nodded with tense expressions.
It seemed they had finally grasped just how serious the situation had been.
“For the first time in my life, I truly thought I was going to die. If it weren’t for Souta, we would’ve all been wiped out.”
Lilith let out a deep sigh.
“That’s my boss for ya! That’s exactly the kind of man I put my faith in! Damn, I wish I could’ve seen you in action!”
Only Kai remained his usual carefree self.
His cheerful voice lightened the tense atmosphere just a little.
“Well, anyway, that means the mission’s complete, right? Let’s hurry back to the city, get some good food, and celebrate!”
At his words, a few of us let out small smiles.
“That sounds good. I could use some of your energy. Can I leave the driving to you?”
Lilith asked Kai.
“Of course! I’ll get us there at top speed!”
Kai replied confidently.
As everyone stood up and began walking toward the carriage—
“Wait a moment.”
Lucian’s solemn voice stopped us in our tracks.
Everyone turned to face him.
He took a slow, deep breath, his sharp eyes narrowing.
“It’s not over yet.”
Huh?
What does he mean?
“You mean the burial of the villagers who were turned into thralls? Now that you mention it, we did forget about that. It wouldn’t sit right leaving them as they are.”
Lilith muttered, looking slightly guilty.
“No, that’s not what I meant. There’s no need for that.”
Lucian hesitated for a moment, took another deep breath, and then spoke with resolve.
“There’s still one vampire left.”
“Wait… You mean there’s a survivor? But we took care of all the ones who tried to escape.”
Elios responded confidently.
But Lucian shook his head slowly.
“No… there’s one more…”
He paused for a moment—
Then, in a heavy voice, he said:
“I am the last thrall.”
…!!!???
“You? A thrall? But you don’t seem like you were under Kistopia’s control…”
Lilith asked in shock.
“Yes. When I was turned into a thrall, I was placed under a ‘Charm’ meant to enthrall me…….. but for some reason, it didn’t work on me. That’s why I can still move freely. But as a result, I’ve become the most troublesome remaining vampire.”
Lucian fell silent for a moment, took a deep breath, and then spoke with firm resolve.
“Please… exterminate me.”
The air grew heavy with tension.
A thick silence settled over us. It was pressing down as everyone struggled to process his words.
“T-Take you down? C’mon, man… after all the help you’ve given us, how’re we supposed to do that so easily…?”
Kai voiced what we were all thinking. He turned toward Lilith as if seeking her judgment.
Lilith furrowed her brows slightly, deep in thought.
“Hmm… The biggest problem with vampire thralls is that when their master dies, they lose their rationality. Mana alone isn’t enough to keep them in check. And they eventually devolve into monsters that devour humans. Their physical abilities are also far beyond those of normal people.”
She carefully chose her words, as if organizing the situation in her mind.
“But in your case, you’ve maintained your rationality. And there’s no sign that you’ll attack humans. The real issue is how you’ll sustain your mana supply going forward…”
Her voice was calm, but I could tell she was carefully weighing the possibilities.
A long silence followed, broken only by the sound of the night wind rustling past.
Then, cutting through the heavy atmosphere, I spoke.
“Then just come with me.”
My words sliced through the silence, shaking the air.
“I mean, I already keep a Behemoth and a Hellhound. What’s one more vampire at this point?”
I grinned and turned to Elysia beside me.
“You don’t mind, right?”
She furrowed her brows in momentary confusion but then let out a sigh and shrugged.
“Fine. The people in my household are going to have a lot to say about it. But as always, I’ll shut them up.”
“Good. I’m counting on you.”
I nodded in satisfaction.
Meanwhile, Lucian just stood there, looking completely bewildered. He was unable to keep up with how quickly things had shifted.
