☆53 The Fate of the Twins ②
A massive army of over five thousand soldiers advanced in perfect formation. It shook the ground beneath them.
Every single one of them was on foot.
Since the Autonomous Territory was relatively close, they had chosen to spare their horses, considering the return trip.
Had they been riding, they could have crossed the forest ahead in just thirty minutes.
The grasslands swayed in the wind, forming waves. And small wildflowers bloomed here and there.
Leading the front was Passieu, the “Phantom of the Night.”
His jet-black armor exuded an eerie pressure. It tightened the resolve of the soldiers behind him. The deep black plating seemed to absorb the light itself. Its heavy presence was unwavering even amidst the shimmering heat.
—Suddenly, a massive shadow passed overhead.
“…What was that?”
Looking up, he saw what seemed to be two giant birds circling the sky.
The knights followed his gaze, their faces filled with astonishment.
“Stay on guard!!!”
The moment the warning shout rang out, one of the enormous birds plummeted at terrifying speed.
With the lower body of a lion and razor-sharp talons glinting under the sunlight, it dove like seabirds snatching its prey—straight at the soldiers.
“Uwaaaaah!!!”
Armor ripped apart like paper, and several soldiers were sent flying into the air.
Panic engulfed the battlefield in an instant.
“Stay calm!! Mage unit, prepare to counterattack!! Everyone else, sprint to the forest at full speed!!!”
Passieu’s commanding voice thundered.
And then—a fiery inferno rained down from above.
“Gyaaahhh!!!”
The stench of burning flesh filled the air. Screams were echoing across the battlefield.
Soldiers desperately scrambled, trying to escape the blazing vortex.
“What the hell are those birds!?”
Someone shouted.
As if in response, the creatures’ full forms became more visible.
The other flying beast was a bird with fiery red wings. It was engulfed in flames, radiating a divine presence like the sun itself.
The knights’ expressions froze in shock and fear.
“Mage unit, keep firing!!”
At Passieu’s order, the mages unleashed lightning bolts and ice spears one after another.
But despite its massive size, the birds were shockingly agile. They were dodging the attacks with ease.
And for the red beast, even when struck, its wounds instantly regenerated. It was as if nothing had happened.
While the soldiers grew increasingly desperate, the bird swooped down once more. While the fiery beast unleashed a second wave of fire.
“So that’s the rumored magical beast… It’s even more troublesome than expected.”
Standing at a distance, Yuhak observed the battlefield calmly. Before he turned to Alexis with a faint smirk.
“Looks like the idea of an unconditional surrender was nothing more than a joke.”

Dodging the flying magical beasts’ assault, some knights crawled their way into the forest.
But what awaited them there… was a towering dwarf, built like a living boulder.
“There’s someone here!”
One knight called out. But another, trying to shake off his fear, shouted aggressively.
“Doesn’t matter! Kill them!!!”
Several knights drew their swords and charged at the dwarf.
—Boom! Boom!! BOOM!!!
A series of dull, heavy impacts echoed.
In the next instant, the attacking knights were sent flying backward. It was as if they had slipped on banana peels.
“Sorry, but I can’t let you through.”
The dwarf stood his ground, his stance unshaken as he spoke.
The knights lay sprawled on the ground, armor shattered, bl00d bubbling from their mouths.
The brutal scene weighed heavily in the air.
But more knights rushed in from behind.
Encouraged by their increasing numbers, one knight regained his composure and sneered.
“Hah! What can one guy do against all of us?”
At those words, the dwarf grinned slowly.
“One guy?”
The moment Baldorak smirked—shadows burst from the trees.
“UOOOOOHHHHH!!!”
With a thunderous war cry, soldiers of the defense forces launched an ambush from both sides.
Their bodies were cloaked in the power of enchanted stones, masking their presence.
Completely caught off guard, the knights were cut down one by one before they could even react.
Their movements were precise, swift, and ruthless.
Panic consumed the battlefield.
The knights were thrown into chaos. They could only flail blindly, their attacks uncoordinated.
But these were seasoned warriors.
Before long, the surviving knights steadied themselves. They regrouped and regained order.
Seeing this, the defense force soldiers began dispersing into the forest. They faded into the trees.
For a moment, an eerie silence fell.
Baldorak slowly stepped backward.
Sensing a trap, the knights cautiously advanced, weapons at the ready.
At some point, their numbers had swelled beyond two hundred.
“Hmm… looks like it’s time.”
Muttering to himself, Baldorak raised his right hand.
“He’s about to do something! Stay alert!!”
A knight shouted. Every soldier tensed, gripping their weapons tightly.
And then—
—ZUZUN!! ZUZUZUZUN!!!
A thunderous roar rumbled from deep within the forest.
“…What the hell is that!?”
A growl that was so deep it resonated in their very bones. It echoed through the air as the beasts finally emerged.
—Behemoth. And a Hellhound.
The magical beasts’ colossal bodies radiating sheer menace. They charged at the knights without hesitation.
“Gwaaaaaahhh!!!”
In an instant, the knightly ranks were swallowed by utter chaos.
Each time the Behemoth’s massive form barreled through, several soldiers were hurled through the air. They crashed violently into the ground.
Its fangs and claws shredded knights apart as effortlessly as tearing through soft clay.
Meanwhile, the Hellhound ripped through armor with razor-sharp claws. Its fire-wreathed roars turned the battlefield into a blazing inferno.
Terror paralyzed the knights—hands trembling as they clutched their weapons.
Despite all their rigorous training, they were just ordinary humans—with no special powers—facing a force far beyond their comprehension.
“Aaaaahhh!!!”
Agonized screams erupted from all directions.
Many knights stood frozen, staring in horror—unable to move.
The battlefield had transformed into hell itself.
