- Episode 10 - Luna, the Forbidden Seeker
Garud, Elena, and Allen.
The three of them continued their bizarre journey farther into the Forbidden Forest. The difficulties they had faced together had created a natural division of roles and a fundamental trust in each other’s abilities, even though their initial apprehension and mistrust had not entirely disappeared. Garud’s years of experience and dwarf-like strength allowed him to recognize the hazardous terrain and traps that lurked in the forest.
“This route appears hazardous. He remarked, “There’s a strange magical trace.”
“This mushroom is poisonous, but this one is edible. Take caution.
Beyond his fighting skills, he was a valuable resource because of his understanding of how to survive in such a hostile environment.
Elena was in charge of long-range reconnaissance using her wind magic.
At three o’clock, large magical beasts were spotted up ahead! Two of them.
“The weather may change because the wind has changed.” Her accurate information was essential for avoiding dangers and unanticipated encounters.
Allen, meanwhile, assumed responsibility for destroying any dangers with his superior fighting skills.
Spatial awareness from his Void Magic allowed him to locate enemies with precision, teleport for surprise attacks, use spatial
shields to protect his companions, and use spatial destruction techniques or a sword that was summoned from an imaginary space to eliminate enemies.
Elena and Garud were still unable to understand his fighting style, but they were unable to dispute its efficacy and efficiency.
Even though they didn’t talk much, they enjoyed simple things like sitting by a campfire, where Garud shared preserved food and
Elena used wind magic to heal Allen’s minor wounds, which he accepted without comment. As a result of these private conversations, they started to regard one another as more than just “temporary allies.”
A few days later, the three of them ventured into a section of the forest where the magical energy flow felt completely different.
In contrast to the stale air they had previously experienced, this place was almost sacred, full of a pure, serene, and potent life force. But they could still see the same thick forest in front of them.
“…This is odd. I can’t see anything, but I can feel the power of magic. Additionally, the wind is being
redirected in an unnatural way.
Elena scanned the area with the wind. Allen used his spatial awareness to say, “It’s an illusion, or perhaps some kind of barrier.”
He could see a thin distortion in the space around them, like a membrane, in his “sight.” It was obviously
a man-made barrier, a sophisticated one intended to keep out intruders, rather than a natural occurrence.
“Hmph, Beastkin frequently employ this tactic. Garud muttered, “They don’t like outsiders,” referring to his previous interactions with the Beastkin.
It appears that unless we resolve this, we won’t be able to proceed. However, how? Elena stated. It was difficult to break through such a vast and complex barrier.
Allen studied the barrier in silence, examining its composition. He eventually located a single spot
where the distortion was unstable and thinner.
“This is it. From here, we might be able to get involved.”
He lifted his hand in the direction of the distortion and concentrated.
He used Void Magic to create a tiny crack in the middle of the spatial distortion, as if he were sticking a needle into it.
A faint sound, like glass breaking, was heard.
Then, as if a curtain were opening, the hidden landscape on the other side emerged, and the forest scene in front of them started to shimmer like a mirage.
There was a green valley in front of them. Simple, lovely homes made of stone and wood lined the area, fruit-laden trees towered, and a clear stream glistened in the sunlight. It resembled a secluded, tranquil village from a fairy tale.
However, the village exuded a strong sense of vigilance and obvious murderous intent despite its peaceful appearance.
They had sensed the barrier’s breach instantly.
Allen, Elena, and Garud were looking at the village in shock when a sharp presence materialized and a gust of wind blew.
Then a girl appeared in front of them out of nowhere. She had a sharp gaze on her well-defined face, with silver hair that reached her shoulders, large triangular ears, and a fluffy white tail that swayed behind her. A sword was fastened to her waist. She was a Beastkin fox.
“Who are you?”
Luna, the girl, glared at them with sharp eyes and spoke in a low, inquisitive voice that was full of a deep sense of obligation to defend the village and a dislike for outsiders.
“What has caused you to break the taboo? In our village, what do you want? Respond right away, or you risk losing your lives.”
She was obviously a fierce fighter based on her stance and the acerbic quality of her aura. Elena and Garud went into defensive positions at once.
There was tension in the air.
Allen calmly evaluated the situation while confronting Luna’s animosity. They would be making enemies
of the entire village if a fight started here. They wanted to stay away from that.
With both hands raised slightly to indicate he meant no harm, Allen stepped forward and spoke.
“We’re not looking to fight. All we are looking for is information about how to get through this forest. If you don’t
mind, we’d also like a little rest.”
“Do you think I’ll believe you?” Luna dismissed his words right away.
“Outsiders like you…!”
Luna turned her attention to Allen, her acute Beastkin senses detecting the darkness within and the
strange presence of Void Magic surrounding him.
“You possess a malevolent force. Someone like you cannot be allowed in our village.
“A malevolent force, you say? Allen’s voice became a little deeper as he said, “Perhaps it’s quicker to
show you with that power.” Dark, smoky energy rose from his right hand as he slowly raised it, indicating
that more talk was not needed.
Luna also reached for her sword’s hilt, standing poised to draw it.
The standoff was tense.
Then a voice came out, calm but commanding.
“Hold on, Luna.”
Slowly, the voice’s owner came forward. An old Beastkin fox with deep, sage eyes and long white
whiskers. He appeared to be the village elder and was much more present than Luna.
The elder examined Allen, Elena, and Garud one by one, as though evaluating each of them.
“Well… You’re either in pain, on the run, or searching for something.
He looked at Allen and said, “It seems like each of you has complicated circumstances.” As though looking into the depths of Allen’s strength, his eyes narrowed.
“The young one in particular. That power is not at all typical. It almost seems to be from the distant past.
“No,” the elder said, seemingly sensing something but not finishing his sentence.
“Well, it is irrelevant. I don’t like conflict. I’ll believe what you say for the time being and treat you like guests.”
The elder’s unexpected words caused Luna to gasp.
“Elder? However—”
“However,” she was interrupted by the elder, who went on.
“I’ll designate someone to keep an eye on you. You’ll be the one watching them, Luna. Keep your gaze
fixed on them at all times. Report them right away if they act in any way that seems suspicious.
Luna grudgingly responded, “Understood,” her displeasure evident, but she was forced to follow the elder’s instructions.
As a result, Garud, Allen, and Elena were permitted to remain in the Beastkin’s secret village, although they were watched.
They would spend some time resting in this quiet village, and maybe they would meet new people and learn more about their individual destinies, and a new bond would develop between them as Luna watched over them.
