- Episode 14 - Judgment and Choice
All of Gilbert’s lies were exposed by Allen, and his guards were defeated by the overwhelming power of Allen’s allies. Now, Gilbert was completely alone.
The people at the venue no longer looked at him as a hero. Their eyes were cold, filled with curiosity, contempt, and disappointment. Those eyes stabbed into Gilbert, who had fallen to the floor.
“H-huh… aah…”
His pride, his status, and the fake honor he had built—everything was falling apart.
The fear of death and the despair of losing everything pushed Gilbert to beg for his life in an ugly way.
“A-Allen…! Please, I’m begging you! Forgive me! It was my fault! I… I was jealous of your talent…!”
He crawled on the floor and tried to reach Allen’s feet. There was no trace of the proud nobleman or brave knight captain he once was. Now, he was only a pitiful loser.
“I’ll give you money! As much as you want! Status, honor, even this position as Captain of the Order of Aldrin! Take it all! Just… just spare my life… please…”
His pathetic begging made some people in the crowd laugh or sigh.
Allen looked down at Gilbert’s miserable state without any emotion.
Then, Allen slowly drew his sword—a black blade reforged by Garud—and pointed it at Gilbert’s throat.
Gilbert froze at the cold touch of the blade. The entire venue held its breath, watching Allen’s next move. The air was full of killing intent.
Lilia almost screamed, but Elena, standing beside her, stopped her gently.
But—Allen’s sword did not strike.
“…Kill him?”
Allen spoke as if he were talking to himself.
“That would be too easy. That’s not enough punishment for your crimes. You made me lose time, suffer pain, and fall into despair… You need to feel all of that too.”
Allen’s eyes turned cold and sharp, like ice.
“What you deserve is not death. What you deserve is something worse… a long and painful life—like living in hell.”
Gilbert’s eyes widened in fear. He didn’t know what punishment could be worse than death.
Allen put away his sword and raised his right hand toward the air.
“All your crimes have been recorded. No matter how clever your lies were, the truth cannot be erased.”
As Allen spoke, the air beside him twisted, and several sheets of parchment and a magical recording device appeared from the imaginary space.
Allen took them and raised them high for everyone—nobles, knights, and the lord—to see.
“This is the real face of Gilbert von Alster, the so-called hero!”
Allen used his void magic to project the contents of the parchment in the air.
Everyone saw the contract for a magic barrier stone that Gilbert had bought from an informant, a false mission report to the guild that framed Allen, and a part of a ledger showing the bribes Gilbert gave to nobles and the lord to gain his current position.
“N-no…”
Gilbert’s face turned pale. He couldn’t say a single word. The evidence was undeniable. He was completely defeated.
The hall was filled with noise.
“What…! So it was all Gilbert’s doing!”
“We were all fooled by him…!”
“Unforgivable! A fraud who used the name of a hero!”
The nobles all started to blame Gilbert and quickly distanced themselves from him.
The lord stood up, his face purple with anger, and declared in a strong voice:
“Gilbert von Alster! I saw your crimes with my own eyes! There is no excuse left for you! From this moment on, I strip you of your title and your position as captain! Guards, seize this criminal!”
Several guards moved to arrest Gilbert. He didn’t even try to resist. He fell to his knees and cried out in despair.
From the top of glory, he fell to the bottom of ruin in a single moment. It was complete destruction.
Allen looked down at him coldly and gave him one last blow—with words.
“Live and pay for your sins, Gilbert. Feel all the time and pain you stole from me. That will be my revenge.”
Allen then turned his back on Gilbert, as if the man was no longer important. Elena, Garud, and Luna followed him as they left the chaotic hall.
At that moment—
“Allen…! Please, wait…!”
Lilia called out with a trembling voice. She was crying and ran toward him.
“Back then… we… really…!”
She tried to continue with an apology.
Next to her stood Dario, who had arrived at some point. He looked tired and full of regret. He also opened his mouth to say something.
But Allen stopped walking and gave them a cold glance.
“…No need to apologize.”
His voice had no emotion.
“What you chose back then—this is the result. No matter what I say, the past will not change.”
Then Allen said the final words.
“You and I now walk different paths. Never appear before me again.”
Those words cut the last connection between Allen and his former friends.
Lilia collapsed to the floor and began to cry loudly. Dario could only bite his lip and look down.
What kind of path they would take for redemption was no longer Allen’s concern.
Allen, cutting all ties with the past, left the hall with his comrades.
Beyond the doors, the lord’s mansion was still in chaos.
Without anyone noticing, Allen and his group used void magic again and vanished.
The first part of Allen’s revenge—Gilbert’s complete social ruin—was now over.
But Allen’s revenge was far from finished.
