- Episode 15 - To the City of Mockery
Allen and his group used void magic to disappear from Lord Aldrin’s mansion to hide in the forest outside the city and escape the guards.
His revenge on Gilbert had reached a stopping point—it ended with Gilbert’s public downfall. Allen’s companions felt relief, but they also had new questions in their eyes as they looked at him.
“…Gilbert is finished. He was a terrible villain, but in the end, he looked so pathetic,”
Garud said as he added firewood to the campfire.
“Yes. But this isn’t the end, is it, Allen?”
Luna asked quietly. Elena also stared at Allen, trying to see what he would do next.
Allen looked into the flickering flames and answered.
“No, it’s not over yet… We’re going to the next place.”
“Next? Where?”
Elena asked.
“To the city where I lost everything.”
The three of them gasped. That city was once Allen’s base—and the place where he was betrayed and driven out.
“…Is this more revenge?”
Garud asked in a low voice.
“…It’s not just that.”
Allen answered shortly.
“I need to settle things with my past. For myself… and for that city.”
His eyes did not show the pure hatred he had for Gilbert. Instead, there was a deeper, more complicated light in them. Elena, Garud, and Luna couldn’t fully understand what Allen was thinking, but they chose to follow him without saying anything more.
A few days later, they arrived at that city—the place that held Allen’s most painful memories.
It had been months since they last came. On the surface, the city looked lively again. But the people walking on the streets seemed uneasy, and their gossiping voices had a tone of fear.
The news from Aldrin—the fall of the “hero” Gilbert and the reappearance of Allen Lloyd, who was supposed to be dead—had already reached this place.
Now rumors were spreading: “Maybe Allen wasn’t the traitor?” “Maybe Gilbert was the evil one?” No one knew the truth, but the rumors were growing.
When Allen removed his hood and showed his face, the mood in the city instantly changed.
People reacted in different ways.
“L-Lord Allen! You’re alive! We always believed in you!”
A merchant who used to mock Allen ran up, smiling in a flattering way.
(“How dare you…! What face do you have to show here again?”) The words of the merchant that was thrown at him at the time he was helpless.
Others, who supported Gilbert or felt guilty for betraying Allen, looked at him with anger or fear—or quickly turned away and left.
“Look, it’s Allen Lloyd…”
“He’s really alive…”
“What’s going to happen now…?”
People began to gather, keeping their distance but watching Allen with anxious and curious eyes.
Allen looked at them coldly. He saw clearly how quickly they had changed sides.
With Elena, Garud, and Luna beside him, Allen silently walked to the central plaza of the city.
It was the place where he once received the most mockery and insults—where people threw stones at him.
When word of Allen’s return spread, a huge crowd formed in the plaza. Everyone held their breath, waiting to see what Allen would do.
Allen walked to the center and slowly raised his right hand toward the sky.
The air around him shimmered like heat waves. Void magic began to gather.
Then, a huge illusion appeared in the air above the plaza.
It showed the scene from months ago—right here in this place.
“Traitor!”
“Coward!”
“Get out of here!”
In the illusion, the crowd shouted at Allen, throwing stones and filth. The younger Allen looked wounded and hopeless, trying to say something.
Then, he was shown running through the rain, chased by city guards.
The illusion was so vivid that the voices, the chaos, and Allen’s painful cries echoed through the real plaza as if it was happening again.
People stared in shock and fear, unable to look away.
Some of those who had mocked and attacked Allen back then now saw their ugly past clearly. Their faces turned pale with guilt. Some even collapsed to the ground in shame.
The illusion disappeared. Silence fell over the plaza once more.
All eyes were on Allen again.
Everyone expected the beginning of revenge. Maybe bl00d would be spilled.
But Allen said something completely different from what they expected.
“—Did you see that? This is what you did.”
His voice was quiet, but it echoed through every corner of the plaza. Allen slowly looked at everyone.
“But I didn’t come here for revenge.”
Murmurs of confusion spread through the crowd.
“I don’t hate each of you personally. What I hate is the twisted nature of this city—and this world. People refuse to see the truth. They flatter the powerful. They mock the weak and when things change, they turn their backs like nothing happened.”
He continued:
“Gilbert is gone. But that doesn’t mean your city’s problems are solved. Who will become the next one in power? What will you do about the monsters in the northern forest? Can your weak, unprepared lord protect your lives?”
Allen’s words hit directly at the fears and doubts people already had. Without Gilbert, the city was lost and full of problems.
“Will you just flatter a new ‘Gilbert’ again? Will you let someone else be the sacrifice so you can live in fake peace? Is that really okay with you?”
Looking at the crowd—who were filled with fear, confusion, and a little hope—Allen gave his final words. It was not a demand but a choice.
“I might be able to help change this city. My void magic can instantly fix and strengthen your defences. It can help move supplies smoothly. It can even push back the monsters.”
Some hope appeared in the people’s eyes. But Allen quickly erased that hope.
“But that depends on you.”
His voice turned cold again.
“If you can face your past mistakes and truly want to rebuild this city yourselves… then I’ll help. I’ll help break the cycle of betrayal and fear.
But if not—”
Allen shrugged slightly.
“—Then I’ll just leave this city. I won’t care what happens to you.”
He gave them a choice.
Not a rule of fear, but a chance to build a new future together. But to do that, they had to change—and face everything they had done before.
What was Allen’s true goal? Was this mercy… or a new kind of revenge?
Even Elena, Garud, and Luna were surprised by Allen’s words. They watched him closely, trying to understand what he really wanted.
The plaza became silent once again. The people of the city stood still, left to face the heavy choice Allen had given them in front of all of their past actions.
What did Allen really want to achieve? Was this a new form of retaliation, or was it mercy?
Allen’s remarks even caught Elena, Garud, and Luna off guard. They kept a close eye on him in an attempt to ascertain his true desires.
The square fell silent once more. The city’s residents froze, forced to confront the difficult decision Allen had presented them with.
