- Episode 18 - The Horizon Towards the Future
The next morning, the sunlight gently shone down on the rebuilt city.
In front of the city gates stood Allen, Elena, Garud, and Luna, all ready for their journey.
A large crowd of townspeople had gathered to see them off. The elderly, the innkeeper who once betrayed Allen, merchants, and even the children who had grown fond of them were all there.
“Sir Allen, please take care!”
“Lady Elena, Sir Garud, Lady Luna—may you all be safe!”
“Thank you, truly! Thank you for everything!”
“Please come back to visit us again someday!”
Words of thanks, voices of encouragement, and tears of farewell filled the air.
It was a completely different scene from the one a few months ago, when Allen had been chased out of the city in despair. The people no longer feared him. They now saw him and his companions with gratitude and trust.
Allen could not find the right words to say. He simply turned his back to the people in silence.
Elena gave a small wave, Garud nodded roughly, and Luna smiled gently.
Then, without looking back, Allen began walking forward with his companions.
They were heading towards a place where they could build the “utopia” they dreamed of. It wasn’t a specific place on a map, but something they would search for—or create with their own hands. It was their future.
Their four shadows stretched long in the morning sun as they set out on a new journey.
They left the city and followed the road, sometimes entering wild lands not shown on any map.
The journey was not easy. Though it wasn’t as dangerous as the Forbidden Forest, there were still many threats—wild monsters, bandits, and, most of all, unjust rulers like Gilbert and the people who blindly followed them.
Even so, their steps were more confident than before.
Elena’s wind warned them of danger. Garud’s strong body became a shield to protect his friends. Luna’s knowledge and magic helped them through difficulties, and Allen’s Void Magic destroyed any obstacle in their way.
This time, he was not alone. He had friends he could trust by his side.
During the journey, they also shared peaceful moments.
“Alright! With this new material, I think I can make something that boosts Elena’s wind magic!” Garud said excitedly, showing a new blueprint.
“Really? I’m looking forward to that. It might help Allen’s magic work more smoothly too,” Luna replied, peeking at the drawing and pointing out similarities to ancient technologies.
“Don’t let your guard down,” Elena said sharply. “There’s strange magic coming from the west. Not many, but they’re different from before.”
Allen listened quietly while thinking about a new use for his Void Magic—like repairing space, or maybe even creating it.
But signs of new trouble were always close.
They heard rumours from travellers about people disappearing in a valley ahead. Dark clouds gathered in the sky, and they could feel an unusual magical storm. Sometimes, Allen’s magic became unstable, as if something unknown was interfering with it.
The world was wide, and many obstacles still stood in the way of their dream.
Several days had passed since their journey began.
One evening at sunset, the four stood on top of a hill with a clear view of the land.
Below them stretched a vast plain, unlike anything they had seen before. It reached far into the horizon, glowing red under the evening sky.
It was beautiful but also a little harsh. It was the unknown world waiting ahead.
The four of them stood quietly, looking at the scene.
Each of them thought of the past, the hardships they overcame, and the choices they had made for the future.
Elena let the wind play with her hair. She might have been thinking of her distant homeland.
Garud’s heart was probably beating with excitement, dreaming of building a new world with his own hands.
Luna, calm and thoughtful, likely felt the thrill of chasing the truths hidden in this world.
And Allen—
He was silently thankful for the companions standing beside him.
It was different from that night when he had vowed revenge all alone. Now, he had people who shared his dream. That thought, even just a little, warmed the cold loneliness deep in his heart.
His hatred had not disappeared. But it was no longer the only thing pushing him forward.
Allen looked up at the sky and quietly said goodbye to the weak and angry version of himself from the past.
Then, he turned his eyes to the future—towards the road he would walk together with his friends.
“Let’s go,” he said simply, with strong will in his voice.
Elena, Garud, and Luna nodded firmly, their faces full of determination.
Their four shadows began walking once more.
Their backs, lit by the setting sun, looked small—but they carried a strong light of hope.
Their dream of utopia was still far beyond the horizon.
And their grand story was just beginning.
