- Episode 20 - Castaway, or the New World?
Allen and his companions were sailing into uncharted waters aboard the Argonaut, the magical vessel they had built with their own hands.
The horizon stretched endlessly, and their only guide was the positions of the sun, moon, and stars. However, even the stars no longer aligned with any known nautical charts. Luna, who had studied all available star maps, noticed the anomaly.
“As I thought… It seems we’re starting to drift beyond the laws of the unknown world. The stellar patterns are completely different,” she reported anxiously, lifting her head from the observation device.
The sea itself had changed. The deep, mesmerizing indigo water now occasionally shimmered in eerie greens and reds, and at night, glowing plankton lit up the waves in hauntingly beautiful hues. Yet, this spectacle only emphasized the strangeness of the region.
From time to time, massive shadows glided beneath the ship, and distant, unearthly roars echoed across the waves, tightening the nerves of everyone on board.
“The wind… it’s strange. It’s not just air—it feels like the flow of something… far more primal,” Elena murmured on the deck, frowning as she faced the breeze. Her mana sense was detecting the alien energy saturating this sea.
Despite all this, the Argonaut was sailing surprisingly smoothly, thanks to Allen’s spatial manipulation magic, Garud’s ship design, and the crew’s coordination. Allen’s power allowed the vessel to navigate through minor storms and unstable currents without issue.
But that calm did not last.
Several weeks have passed.
One night, the world was immersed in pitch-black darkness—no moon, no stars, and only thick clouds could be seen above them. The sea was unnervingly calm, more like the silence before a storm.
Suddenly, the ship shook violently.
At first, it felt like an earthquake, but the tremors came from the sea itself. Ahead, the darkness-covered horizon began to swell slowly—undeniably—rising like a heartbeat from the ocean itself.
“W-what is that…?!”
Garud, who had been on watch, shouted in alarm.
In the next moment, the swollen waters split open. What emerged was beyond words.
Countless colossal tentacles rose from the sea, each thicker than a pole, glistening black and ending in hooked claws. They reached skyward, writhing from the abyss. At their center, the bulk of the creature emerged—so massive that it could be mistaken for an island, with a multitude of enormous, cold yellow eyes locking onto the Argonaut.
“The Abyssal Lord… the Kraken…!?”
Luna whispered the name of the legendary beast found in ancient texts, her voice trembling. It was a nightmare turned to reality—something they were never meant to encounter.
Without time to think, one of the massive tentacles came crashing down toward their ship.
“Brace for impact! Dimensional Shield—maximum output!”
At Allen’s command, the ship was enveloped in a shield of black-violet light—his Void Magic forming a protective barrier.
BOOOOM!!
A deafening shockwave erupted. The barrier held, but the ship rocked violently. Elena and Garud nearly tumbled overboard.
“Damn it, what power was that…!” Garud growled, regaining his stance.
“Allen! Can you maintain the shield?! Elena, support with wind magic!”
“I’ll try!”
Elena summoned violent winds to strike at the Kraken’s eyes, but the creature merely shifted, and the winds were scattered.
The Kraken did not concede. Tentacles rained down again, and corrosive acid spewed from its mouth. A massive whirlpool began to form, trying to drag the ship in.
Allen kept dodging with teleportation and countered with Space Ripper slashes, but the beast’s regeneration was too fast. Nothing made a decisive blow.
“Garud! The hull!” Luna cried.
Despite the barrier, the acid and shockwaves had begun damaging the hull and water was pouring in.
“I know! I’m sealing it! Luna, heal and patch what you can!” Garud rushed to the breach for emergency repairs, while Luna healed Elena and reinforced the hull with spirit magic.
But the situation was dire. The Kraken’s power was overwhelming, and their efforts could only stall it. The ship’s power was nearly gone, and Allen’s mana was almost drained.
“Damn it… At this rate, we’ll all sink to the bottom…!”
Allen clenched. Was this the end?
No—there was still one option. A forbidden gamble.
“Elena! Garud! Luna! Get to me! The ship won’t last much longer!”
Allen made his final decision. The others gathered around him without question.
“You’re doing it, Allen!? That spell is uncontrollable!”
“We’ve got no choice! Hold on tight!”
Allen gathered the last of his power in his right hand. The air around him changed with black lightning and cracking. It was an uncontrolled Void Magic teleportation. It was not aimed at any known coordinates, not stabilized, or calculated. Just a desperate escape to somewhere else.
“—JUMP!!”
With a roar, Allen unleashed the spell and a black-violet light that swallowed everything.
Then, silence.
He lost consciousness, feeling his body torn apart at the atomic level and pulled through the cracks of space itself.
*****
He didn’t know how much time had passed.
When Allen awoke, he heard waves and felt warm wind brush his cheek.
Opening his eyes, he saw an endless blue sky and a white sandy beach unlike any he’d known.
“…Where… am I?”
His body was heavy, and his magic had nearly depleted—the price of the reckless teleportation magic. He sat up slowly and scanned the area.
Elena, Garud, and Luna were there, unconscious but seemingly unharmed. The wreckage of the Argonaut lay nearby, shattered and useless.
Allen sighed and looked at the sky.
Above, constellations he’d never seen twinkled in the night sky.
Then he turned—and gasped.
Towering trees pierced the heavens. Vibrant birds and wyvern-like creatures soared between them. The air was thick with the scent of wild plants and a raw, overwhelming vitality. The mana in the air was dense and wild—utterly unlike any place they had ever been.
They had certainly never seen a continent like this before.
“… Could this be… the ‘Mist Continent’ Luna mentioned…?”
Allen shook his companions awake.
“Elena, Garud, Luna! Wake up!”
One by one, they moved.
“…Allen…? Where… are we?”
“Ugh… my whole body’s falling apart… Is the ship… yeah, it’s completely wrecked.”
“…We survived, didn’t we…?”
Realizing they had shipwrecked in a completely unknown land, the group’s faces filled with exhaustion and worry. It was a hopeless situation.
But in their eyes, a spark of determination still remained.
“Yeah, the ship’s gone. But we’re alive. This isn’t the end. It’s just the beginning.”
Allen spoke firmly. The others nodded.
“Right. First, we need to assess our situation. Do we have food and water? Anything left in your Imaginary Space, Allen?”
“Yeah, enough for now, but not forever. We’ll need to find local resources.”
“…This air… the spirit power is incredibly strong. My magic is reacting to it… I might be able to communicate with them,” Luna added as she sensed the ambient mana.
“I’ll scout the area. We need a safe place,” Elena offered, already stirring the wind to explore.
Allen also stood and walked from the beach to the edge of the jungle.
“I’ll look around too. There might be clues.”
And then, he found one.
At the border of the sand and trees, a massive footprint with three toes—clearly not human—was imprinted deeply into the ground. The creature that left it could easily be the size of a house.
Deeper within the jungle they saw partially hidden by vines stood a massive stone pillar. It was unmistakably crafted, not formed by nature. It looked like part of an ancient ruin.
(A giant beast… and ancient ruins…)
This continent wasn’t just a paradise of natural beauty.
It was a land of unknown dangers—and unimaginable secrets.
