Rising to Power with Void Magic ~An Exiled Genius Magician Decides To Take Revenge With His New Friends and Create a Utopia~ - Episode 7
Void Magic—after witnessing even a mere fragment of that transcendent power, Allen decided to make this ancient ruin his temporary base and begin his solitary training.
Fortunately, the interior of the ruin was sturdy enough to protect him from external threats, and the dense magical energy flowing within it seemed to aid, even if only slightly, in the restoration of his damaged mana circuits and the forging of new power.
First, he began with information gathering.
Allen explored the vast ruins, searching for clues about Void Magic.
On the murals, there were depictions of ancient people freely manipulating space with stars in the background. It looked like a scene straight out of mythology.
From what seemed to be the remains of a collapsed library, he discovered weathered parchment and fragments of stone tablets etched with illegible characters.
In an area resembling a laboratory, broken and bizarre magical tools—possibly ones that affected space—were scattered all over.
Allen used all the knowledge he had gained at the academy to try to piece together these fragments of information.
Though fully deciphering the ancient script was difficult, from the murals and the structure of the magical tools, he inferred that Void Magic was not merely about manipulating energy. It was based on fundamentally different principles than existing magical systems—principles such as “precise recognition of spatial coordinates,” “interference with higher dimensions,” and “intervention in probability of existence.”
And he realized that this power held immense potential—but at the same time, if misused, it could cause catastrophic effects to the caster and the surrounding world.
(…But with this power…!)
Even fully understanding its dangers, Allen’s resolve for revenge did not waver. In fact, he was more convinced than ever that this extraordinary power was the only path to achieve his goal.
Next, Allen began basic training to control Void Magic.
Using the grand hall where the altar was and other safe sections of the ruins, he spent day after day immersed in training.
First came “Spatial Awareness.”
He would close his eyes, focus his mind, and train to “feel” the space around him itself. At first, all he sensed was a vague expanse, but through repetition, he began to accurately perceive the distance to the walls, the height of the ceiling, the unevenness of the floor, even the flow of air—understanding it all as three-dimensional spatial coordinates. It felt as though he himself had become part of the space.
Next was “Coordinate Shift (Teleportation).”
Now able to accurately recognize spatial coordinates, Allen attempted to instantaneously move his body to a desired location.
At first, it was a series of failures. He’d end up half-merged with a wall, appear near the ceiling when he only intended to move a few meters, or fail to move at all. Each time, he was hit with minor shocks and dizziness.
But Allen didn’t give up. He analyzed the causes of his failures, improved the precision of his coordinate settings, and adjusted the flow of his mana. After dozens, even hundreds, of attempts, he finally mastered stable teleportation within a few meters—a skill that would be invaluable for ambushes and evasive maneuvers.
Then came “Dimensional Shield.”
A technique that creates an invisible rift—a wall of dimension—at a chosen location in space to block physical attacks or magical energy.
At first, he could only form a thin membrane that would easily shatter even when struck by a small stone. But through repeated training, he dramatically increased its strength and duration. Eventually, he could instantly deploy a barrier strong enough to withstand the charge of a powerful magical beast.
Once the fundamentals were in place, Allen moved on to mastering more advanced applications.
“Imaginal Space”—a technique that opens a small entrance to a sub-dimension near the user, allowing them to store and retrieve items. It was extremely convenient. Food, water, weapons, and collected materials could be safely and compactly carried. At first, he could only store a small knife, but with training, the storage capacity gradually increased.
“Space Crush”—an offensive technique that forcibly compresses and releases spatial coordinates at a target location, generating a localized shockwave. Though its power was still limited, it held the potential to bypass physical defenses like armor and inflict internal damage.
“Distortion”—a defensive/evasive technique that distorts the space around incoming attacks to alter their trajectories. When combined with Dimensional Shield, it allowed for a nearly impenetrable defense.
Throughout this training, Allen was forced to confront a harsh truth:
He could no longer use the elemental magic he once excelled at—fire, water, wind, and earth.
It seemed that the unique magical properties of Void Magic were causing severe interference with his existing mana circuits and magical systems.
For Allen, who had believed that magic defined his very existence during his time at the academy, this brought a fleeting sense of loss tinged with sadness.
(…But it doesn’t matter.)
That sadness vanished in an instant.
What he had gained through Void Magic far outweighed what he had lost. The ability to manipulate space went far beyond the conventional understanding of magic. This was the power that would allow him to exact vengeance on Gilbert and on the world itself.
Allen’s resolve only grew stronger.
His training demanded immense concentration and physical stamina. The dense magic within the ruins wasn’t enough to sustain him, so Allen had to periodically leave the ruins and venture into the Forbidden Forest to gather food.
At first, survival was a struggle against the magical beasts—but as he mastered the basics of Void Magic, things began to change.
With teleportation, he could ambush prey from behind. With Dimensional Shield, he could block attacks. Sometimes, he would use Space Crush to halt their movements. The hunts became real-world training for Void Magic.
Solitary training in the ruins and brutal survival in the forest.
As he repeated these days over and over, Allen’s mind and body underwent rapid transformation.
His body became sharper and more refined. His eyes held unshakable resolve—and a bottomless darkness.
What supported him was only one thing:
(Wait for me, Gilbert… Lilia… Dario… and all those who betrayed me…)
A vow of revenge.
Dreaming of the day he would fulfill it, Allen continued to forge his power in solitude.
