Rumor Has It I Don’t Follow A-Class Morals - Chapter 15
Originally, Ming Muyao had wanted to have a proper chat with Su Yin to improve their relationship, so things wouldn’t be so awkward between them.
But now that Su Yin had actually opened up about her family situation, it was Ming Muyao who ended up feeling awkward.
It felt like she had dragged Su Yin into revealing old wounds on purpose, making herself look especially cruel and petty.
Ming Muyao took a sip of the cold, fizzy beer. After a while, she finally said, “Sorry, I didn’t know things were like that with your family.”
It was the first time Su Yin had ever heard Ming Muyao say “sorry” to her. She sat on the couch and stared at her for a long moment, a flicker of confusion in her eyes. After a pause, she said, “It’s not your fault. If you hadn’t been willing to help me back then, we wouldn’t have even been able to afford the medical bills.”
Later, Ming Muyao found out that it was precisely during the chaos in Su Yin’s family that that woman stepped in, offered her “help,” and ended up marrying Su Yin—keeping her by her side forever.
No wonder Ming Zheng immediately assumed Su Yin was only after her money. There were signs all along.
Ming Muyao fell into deep thought. She’d already finished more than half the beer in her hand, but for some reason, this body had an unusually high alcohol tolerance. Drinking beer felt no different from drinking soda—no discomfort at all. In fact, she felt even more awake the more she drank.
She glanced at the large clock in the study. It was almost 1 a.m.
“It’s getting late,” Ming Muyao said as she set the glass down. She turned to Su Yin. “You should get some rest.”
Just as she stood up, Su Yin looked up at her and suddenly said, “It’s been more than half a month since we were discharged from the hospital.”
Ming Muyao turned back with a puzzled look, thinking for a moment before replying, “Time flies… It’s already been half a month?”
That meant she had been in this world for over half a month now. She was starting to adjust to life here bit by bit. Given a little more time, she’d probably be able to fully accept this world.
Going back seemed out of the question. Fortunately, the person she had possessed—though a bit of a scumbag—was otherwise pretty satisfactory.
Su Yin remained seated on the couch, her gaze fixed on Ming Muyao. After a moment, she asked quietly, “Are you… not planning to touch me again?”
The words made Ming Muyao freeze.
She turned around, surprised, and saw Su Yin’s calm expression—but deep in her eyes, there was a trace of panic.
Even though it was Su Yin who brought it up, somehow Ming Muyao was the one feeling incredibly uncomfortable now.
She was caught completely off guard and said awkwardly, “Su Yin… do we really have to talk about this now?”
Su Yin lowered her head, pale-faced, clutching the hem of her skirt. “I understand.”
Seeing that Su Yin was about to leave, Ming Muyao quickly tried to smooth things over. “I’m not blaming you. It’s just… I haven’t fully come to terms with our relationship yet. Could you… give me a little more time to adjust?”
Su Yin looked back at her and gave a small nod before leaving the study.
Only after hearing the sound of the bedroom door closing in the hallway did Ming Muyao finally breathe a little easier.
She had known from the start that Su Yin was her wife, but to the current Ming Muyao, Su Yin was still just a stranger she’d known for less than half a month. Their relationship wasn’t even as close as hers with Aunt Chen.
Su Yin suddenly asking if she planned to touch her again had really come out of nowhere.
Ming Muyao returned to her bedroom and took a shower. As she recalled Su Yin’s pretty face, her slender, delicate figure, and those watery eyes staring at her, she couldn’t help but feel a little dazed.
The longer I stay in this shower, the hotter it gets…
Over the next few days, Ming Muyao focused on getting ready to return to work.
Ming Zheng, as a minor shareholder in the company and also her mother, naturally kept pushing her to go back to the office as soon as possible. Ming Muyao had zero interest in returning, but she couldn’t stray too far from the role she was currently expected to play.
Change needed to happen gradually—otherwise, people would get suspicious.
So over the past few days, she made an effort to familiarize herself with the company’s operations and gradually get a handle on things.
As far as real-world business went, the group was basically half-abandoned. These days, it was mainly focused on internet ventures. They’d invested over a billion into several projects, including games, software, and some modern appliances.
Sitting in the courtyard with a stack of documents in front of her, Ming Muyao soaked up the sun while thinking things over.
The sun was nice and warm today. After sitting there for a while, she felt her whole body relax in the gentle heat.
She hadn’t been one to enjoy sunbathing before. Work had always kept her too busy for that—who had time to lounge in the sun?
But now, she finally realized that sometimes, a little sunshine wasn’t such a bad thing. Once she started working at “her” company, she probably wouldn’t get the chance to relax like this anymore.
Bzz bzz bzz—
Her phone buzzed on the wooden side table next to her lounge chair. She glanced over and saw the caller ID: Xu Bu.
This woman had already called her several times. Apparently, that dead Omega from the alley incident had turned into a real headache. Xu Bu had pulled every string she could and was now buried in debt.
So these constant calls were either to borrow money or to ask for help.
Ming Muyao switched her phone to silent and didn’t bother answering. She was already struggling to keep herself afloat—how could she possibly spare the energy to help someone else?
You know what? Life’s easier when you’re a little selfish.
In the blink of an eye, the day of Ming Muyao’s return to work arrived. Aunt Chen had already ironed her outfit the night before—a dark-colored professional suit.
A black, long-sleeved V-neck blouse paired with a navy A-line skirt with subtle patterns. Just throwing on a blazer over it made her look especially sharp and put-together.
She had picked out the outfit herself. She used to love this kind of dark-toned business attire back when she worked, and that hadn’t changed in this world.
The original Ming Muyao’s taste in clothes had been ridiculously flashy. Her wardrobe was a chaotic mess full of all kinds of gaudy outfits. Ming Muyao figured she’d take Su Yin out shopping one day when she had time. The girl seemed to only own two or three outfits and looked even more down-and-out than she did.
Once she was dressed, Ming Muyao got ready to head out.
Aunt Chen looked at her with concern. “Are you sure you don’t want one of us to go with you? I’m still a bit worried. Maybe let Yinyin go with you?”
Ming Muyao glanced at Su Yin and smiled. “You don’t have to treat me like a child. Didn’t we sneak over there the other day? I already know where the entrance is. No need to worry so much.”
Aunt Chen still looked uneasy. She glanced at Su Yin, then pulled her forward and said to Ming Muyao, “How about this—I’ll have Yinyin bring you lunch at noon. If anything comes up, maybe she can help.”
Su Yin looked a little surprised, then turned to glance at Ming Muyao. After a moment, she said, “I’ll do whatever you need.”
Seeing her like that, Ming Muyao couldn’t help but laugh. She reached out and ruffled her hair gently. “Then I’ll count on you.”
