Rumor Has It I Don’t Follow A-Class Morals - Chapter 18
Su Yin put away her phone and sat somewhere the sunlight could reach, letting the warmth from beyond the glass window wash over her.
The first floor was bustling with people. A few employees carrying takeout walked past her and sat down nearby.
Two of the girls were dressed in black-and-white business attire, their hair tied up in high ponytails. They looked youthful and full of energy.
In the sunlight, they seemed to shine.
Su Yin didn’t look at them. She simply held the insulated lunchbox on her lap, zoning out a little.
“Did you hear? President Ming came in to work today.”
“I know, I know. A friend of mine in the secretary’s office told me she showed up early this morning.”
The girl holding a sandwich said, “Our company’s so big, I’ve never even seen what President Ming looks like. Just heard she’s super pretty and a total boss.”
The girl sitting across from her laughed. “Yeah, she’s pretty, but I heard she’s got a bad temper. Plus, her personal life’s a mess.”
“Didn’t she get married? How is it still messy?”
“What does being married matter? I heard her wife has no power or influence—just someone she married for show. Her wife can’t stop her from doing anything.”
Su Yin lowered her head and gripped the lunchbox tightly, eyes closed.
The two nearby kept chatting, but the topic had already shifted from Ming Muyao’s wife to other bosses’ secretaries. They only quieted down when Ming Muyao stepped out of the elevator.
The moment she saw Su Yin sitting in the lounge area, Ming Muyao’s eyes lit up.
Today, Su Yin was wearing a denim dress with a small beige shoulder bag. She sat on the couch with her head down, lost in thought.
Seeing her made Ming Muyao feel grounded again. She had spent the whole day surrounded by unfamiliar faces, and not once had she felt secure. But now, seeing Su Yin again, the smile on her face couldn’t be held back.
“Su Yin.”
She walked over and bent down slightly to meet Su Yin’s gaze. “What’s wrong? You don’t look too well. Are you feeling sick?”
Su Yin looked up at her standing in the sunlight, and the sadness in her heart only deepened.
Ming Muyao looked completely different now. Gone was the sharp, edgy version of her from before. Her features had softened, she looked clean and composed—like a different person altogether when she stood in the sunlight.
Su Yin tightened her grip on the lunchbox and replied softly, “No… maybe I’m just a little hungry.”
Ming Muyao chuckled and ruffled her hair. “Then come eat with me in my office. It’s more spacious there.”
She took Su Yin’s hand and happened to glance at the two girls nearby, who were still eating.
“Good afternoon, President Ming.”
“Hello.”
There was a hint of surprise and confusion in their eyes. Ming Muyao thought for a second, then held Su Yin’s hand more firmly and said, “This is my wife. She came to bring me lunch today. We won’t bother you.”
Leaving the two employees stunned, she led Su Yin into the elevator.
On the way up, Ming Muyao was still wondering if she had said something wrong. Why had those two girls looked at her like they’d seen a ghost?
Don’t tell me… no one in the company knows what my wife looks like?
During lunch break, the elevators were still crowded. Ming Muyao held Su Yin’s hand and stood quietly in the corner.
Once half the people had gotten off, she finally relaxed a bit and turned to ask, “Is it heavy? Want me to carry it?”
She said it casually, but she had already taken the lunchbox from Su Yin’s hands. Weighing it a little, she asked, “What did Aunt Chen make today? Why is it so heavy?”
Su Yin had a bit of social anxiety—especially in tight spaces like elevators where even casual conversations could be overheard. But since Ming Muyao had asked, she couldn’t just ignore it, so she answered softly, “Spare rib and corn soup, and stir-fried pork.”
With a ding, the elevator reached Ming Muyao’s floor. She led Su Yin out.
“No wonder,” Ming Muyao said. “Next time tell Aunt Chen not to make anything so complicated. Just a couple of simple dishes are fine. Making soup is too much work.”
Su Yin didn’t respond. On the way, many people greeted Ming Muyao, and she smiled back at each one with ease.
So this is what Ming Muyao looks like when she’s at work…
Su Yin looked around curiously. Even though it was lunchtime, plenty of people were still working, walking around with files or in meetings.
When they finally reached the office, Su Yin saw how spacious and bright it was. There was even a huge floor-to-ceiling window that gave a direct view of the river and the skyline across from it.
After placing the lunch on the coffee table, Ming Muyao took off her jacket and said, “It’s my first day back and I’m still adjusting. The office is a bit messy—hope you don’t mind.”
Su Yin shook her head and stepped up to open the lunchbox. “Would you like some tea? Or just start with the soup?”
“Soup, please.” Ming Muyao sat down on the couch, smiling brightly. “Come sit and eat with me. Don’t run around—I’m starving.”
Aunt Chen’s soup really was delicious, and the stir-fried pork was flavorful and perfect with rice. If there had been more rice, Ming Muyao could’ve easily gone for a second bowl.
Once they were done eating, Su Yin started cleaning up the containers, but Ming Muyao quickly stopped her.
“You’re always fussing,” she said, taking the lunchbox from Su Yin. “Just bring it home to wash later. We don’t even have dish soap or anything here—it’s not convenient.”
Su Yin glanced at the containers and nodded, putting everything back.
“I still have work this afternoon,” Ming Muyao said, pointing at the stack of reports on her desk. “Do you want to wait for me and head home together? Or rest a bit and go home on your own?”
Remembering Aunt Chen’s instructions, Su Yin said, “I’ll wait for you and we’ll go home together.”
Ming Muyao hesitated. “Won’t that be boring?”
Su Yin shook her head. “It’s okay. I’m used to it.”
She really was. This was what her days used to look like—just sitting in silence. She didn’t have much to do, and Ming Muyao wouldn’t let her contact anyone. Other than watching some TV, all she could do was sit and stare at nothing.
If she just had to sit quietly for a few hours, it wasn’t that hard to endure.
Ming Muyao thought for a second, then said, “I’ll order you a milk tea. You can hang out in my office this afternoon and keep me company.”
Su Yin looked at her and nodded.
The milk tea arrived quickly. Ming Muyao also got herself a cup of black tea—just enough to meet the delivery minimum.
Worried Su Yin would get bored, she found her a novel and told her to sit on the couch, sip her milk tea, and enjoy the sunshine.
Once Su Yin was settled in, Ming Muyao went back to reading through her files—unaware that for the entire afternoon, while she was reading reports, Su Yin had been watching her.
Sunlight poured onto Ming Muyao, and Su Yin couldn’t shake the feeling that she might vanish at any moment.
The warm light. The focused, composed Ming Muyao.
All of it felt unfamiliar to Su Yin.
She held the barely touched book in her hands and kept her gaze on Ming Muyao. Her eyes trembled slightly, as if she were lost in thought.
An Jinyao finally wrapped up her work around 7 p.m. Stretching, she gathered her things and stepped out of her office.
One of the assistants, still working overtime, hurried over. “President An, are you heading out? The food you ordered is arriving soon.”
“I’m going home. You guys can have it,” An Jinyao said casually. Then, noticing the lights were still on in Ming Muyao’s office, she frowned. “Why are the lights still on in President Ming’s office? If no one’s there, someone should turn them off. It’s such a waste of electricity.”
The assistant looked awkward. “President An, she hasn’t left yet.”
An Jinyao blinked and looked around. Sure enough, there were more people working late today than usual. So the boss is still here… no wonder they’re all pretending to be hardworking.
“You’re sure?” she asked, incredulous. “Ming Muyao actually stayed late? Didn’t she go downstairs around noon?”
The assistant lowered their voice. “She did go downstairs at lunch, but she didn’t leave. She brought someone back with her, and they’ve been in her office ever since.”
An Jinyao rubbed her chin. “Wow, she’s actually bringing her flings into the office now? Ming Muyao’s getting bolder.”
Before, she just ignored the company. Now she was cuddling with her little lover all afternoon in her office.
Completely inappropriate.
An alpha without self-respect was no different than rotten cabbage.
If every alpha in the world had morals and boundaries like hers, there wouldn’t be so much heartbreak around.
She glanced toward Ming Muyao’s office, then turned to her assistant and beckoned. “Wanna see what her little lover looks like?”
The assistant shook their head. “Not really.”
“I do. You’re coming with me.”
Assistant: “……”
In the end, An Jinyao dragged them along. The two crept up to Ming Muyao’s office and leaned in to listen.
The door was thick, and after a long time of hearing nothing, An Jinyao finally knocked—putting on her most professional fake smile.
Before long, the door opened, and An Jinyao’s eyes lit up.
Su Yin stood at the doorway, facing the stylishly dressed woman. She asked softly, “May I help you?”
An Jinyao looked her up and down, inwardly thinking, What a waste—such a nice girl ended up with that pig.
But outwardly, she stayed polite. “I’m looking for President Ming.”
