Rumor Has It I Don’t Follow A-Class Morals - Chapter 23
Su Yin sat on the bed, staring at the woman in front of her, who was speaking with a gentle tone.
She had always had trouble falling asleep, and over the past year, every time she did manage to sleep, she would be trapped in long, endless nightmares.
Anything could happen in those dreams—being beaten, being chased relentlessly…
What scared her the most was being locked up by Ming Muyao, with no food or water, no one to talk to. Every second felt like an endless darkness, blurring the line between reality and dreams.
Just now, Su Yin had been sleeping peacefully when she suddenly heard a soft knock at the door.
It was light, almost gentle, but it startled her awake instantly.
She remembered clearly how, on many nights, Ming Muyao would stand outside her bedroom door like this—her shadow visible only through the gap underneath.
That was why Su Yin hadn’t opened the door right away. It had brought back memories of those days, and she thought that terrifying version of Ming Muyao had returned—like a persistent demon, haunting her door.
After a long while, she finally came to her senses when she heard Ming Muyao’s voice. Barefoot, she got out of bed and went to open the door.
But unlike the demon from before, the Ming Muyao standing there now had soft, gentle eyes, and her hands were warm. When she held Su Yin’s hand, the feeling was unfamiliar—she was completely different from the person she used to be.
Staring blankly at the woman in front of her, Su Yin remained confused.
Can someone really change that completely?
Ming Muyao didn’t know what Su Yin was thinking. She just figured Su Yin hadn’t fully woken up yet. With her dazed, sleepy expression, she looked adorable.
“Your hands are freezing,” Ming Muyao said as she rubbed Su Yin’s hands. “It’s gotten warmer these past couple of days. Why are your hands and feet still so cold? Are you having nightmares at night?”
Su Yin wasn’t sure if it had been a nightmare, but she had definitely been scared by seeing Ming Muyao standing at the door. She just nodded in response.
Feeling sorry for her, Ming Muyao leaned over to warm her with her body and pulled the blanket around her. She said softly, “Don’t be scared. Dreams aren’t real. Once you wake up, it’s all over.”
If dreams aren’t real, then what about reality?
Su Yin didn’t reply. She curled up in Ming Muyao’s arms, staring at her own palms. After a long moment, she finally asked, “You haven’t gone to bed yet?”
“Mm-hmm,” Ming Muyao replied, holding her close. “I was reading some documents. Got so caught up in it that I didn’t realize how late it was.”
Even through the blanket, Su Yin felt so light in her arms.
Ming Muyao caught a faint scent of citrus from Su Yin’s body—it was light and refreshing, like a freshly peeled mandarin orange, sweet and pleasant.
Are all Omegas in this world this nice-smelling?
In the past, Ming Muyao thought body scent was just a gimmick—a trick girls used by spraying on perfume. After a while, the scent just stuck to them, making them smell soft and sweet.
But the little Omega in her arms smelled naturally fresh, like citrus. On top of that, Su Yin’s petite figure made her feel exactly that—soft and sweet.
Of course… if she were just a little chubbier, that would be perfect.
As she held the soft, sweet Su Yin in her arms, Ming Muyao’s thoughts began to drift.
Su Yin’s waist is so small.
Her neck is really pretty too.
The scent on her body is insanely good.
Sure makes you wonder what kind of good karma the old Ming Muyao had to marry someone this pretty and obedient.
If only she were my wife instead.
Ming Muyao blinked, startled for a moment.
Wait… isn’t Su Yin my wife now?
Su Yin had no idea what Ming Muyao was thinking. She just knew it felt nice to be held like this. No one had ever embraced her like this before. So this was what it felt like to be held by someone…
“I’m okay now,” Su Yin said, not wanting to get addicted to the warmth of Ming Muyao’s arms. She gave her a gentle push. “You should go rest too.”
Reluctantly, Ming Muyao let go and looked at her. “Will you be able to fall asleep? If not, I can sit here with you until you do. I’m home all day tomorrow anyway.”
Su Yin shook her head and looked down. “No need. I can sleep by myself.”
Since Su Yin had said it so firmly, Ming Muyao didn’t press the issue. She tucked Su Yin back into bed and pulled the blanket up snugly. “Alright then, I’ll head back. Try to get some sleep. Want me to turn off the light?”
Su Yin hugged the blanket and shook her head. “No… I can’t fall asleep without it on.”
Ming Muyao frowned slightly. “But sleeping with the lights on… will you really rest well like that?”
Su Yin looked at the bedside lamp. Her sleep had always been poor, though she wasn’t sure if it was because of the light.
Since she didn’t answer, Ming Muyao leaned over to the nightstand to try dimming the light. But no matter how she adjusted it, none of the settings felt soft or soothing enough for sleep. In the end, she gave up and sighed. “Tomorrow, I’ll have Aunt Chen check if we have any night lights at home. You won’t sleep well like this.”
Su Yin stared at her in silence for a long moment before slowly reaching a soft hand out from under the blanket and tugging on the hem of Ming Muyao’s shirt.
“Then… can you stay with me for a bit? Just until I fall asleep, okay?”
Ming Muyao smiled gently and nodded. “Okay. Let me go grab some documents to read. Just give me a sec.”
She brought two unfinished reports from the study and sat by the bed with them.
The guest room wasn’t as spacious as the master bedroom, but it had everything one might need. Ming Muyao sat in the chair, reading her files under the bedside lamp, while also keeping an eye on Su Yin.
Maybe it was because it was her first time being watched like this while falling asleep, but Su Yin found it hard to get used to. Every time she opened her eyes, she saw Ming Muyao reading. It made her feel uneasy… and like something was quietly changing.
By the third time she peeked at her, Ming Muyao sighed helplessly, closed her file, and said, “If you don’t sleep soon, I’m going to finish both of these.”
Su Yin jumped a little, quickly pulled the blanket up to cover half her face, and muttered, “I-I’m just not used to it…”
Ming Muyao sighed and set the documents down on the chair, then turned back to look at Su Yin.
“If you can’t sleep, then let’s chat a bit,” she said, sitting down on the edge of the bed. “I have tons of questions. Maybe talking will help you doze off.”
Su Yin gave her a puzzled look and said softly, “I don’t know anything about your work, though. I can’t answer those kinds of questions…”
“Not work stuff.” Ming Muyao thought for a moment, then leaned in and said, “Let’s talk about the differences between Alphas and Omegas. How about that?”
“Differences?” Su Yin was even more confused. She looked at her and asked quietly, “What do you want to know?”
“Like pheromones, heat cycles, things like that.” Ming Muyao tried to sound casual, though her eyes were nervously locked on Su Yin. “And markings. What exactly are they?”
Su Yin blinked at her, then seemed to start thinking deeply.
Ming Muyao immediately worried she’d said something inappropriate. From her own experience, an Alpha asking an Omega about things like this was basically sexual harassment.
“You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to!” she quickly said. “I can just look it up online—”
But Su Yin looked up at her, sat up in bed, and said, “It’s not that I don’t want to answer. I just don’t know how to explain it.”
Ming Muyao watched as Su Yin slowly lifted her long hair and turned slightly to the side.
“You mentioned those things. Most of them have to do with the glands,” Su Yin said. “Omega glands work on a monthly cycle. Every month, we go through a heat period. When an Omega goes into heat, it triggers nearby Alphas to go into heat too.”
She said the word “heat” so matter-of-factly that it made Ming Muyao feel a bit awkward.
This society really is more open, huh? She didn’t even blush.
Staring at Su Yin like a curious child, Ming Muyao asked again, “So the pheromones come from the glands too? And what’s a marking?”
“A marking is when, during heat, an Alpha bites the gland,” Su Yin said, her voice soft. “Like you did to me.”
The air suddenly felt heavy with something unspoken. Ming Muyao’s heart started racing.
In the dim light, her face flushed, and she cleared her throat. “I… still don’t really get it.”
As a regular person from the modern world, she found all this hard to wrap her head around. Su Yin’s explanation felt like it skipped straight to the steamy parts.
“It’s okay if you don’t understand,” Su Yin said, lowering her head. “Do you want to see my gland?”
Ming Muyao’s face turned beet red.
What do you mean, do I want to see your gland?! How could a girl say something like that?
That’s way too much!
She waved her hands quickly. “I think it’s better if I don’t! I can just look up some info online!”
Su Yin blinked at her, confused. “Why? Don’t you want to see it?”
“I-I mean…” How was she supposed to explain this?
Seeing Su Yin’s expression drop a little, Ming Muyao gritted her teeth and forced herself to say, “If you don’t mind… then yeah, I’d like to see it.”
The second she said that, she mentally slapped herself twice.
Pervert. What the hell are you saying?!
If this happened in public, it would totally count as sexual harassment.
But Su Yin didn’t seem to mind. She turned around and gently lifted her hair, revealing her slender, delicate neck. “It’s right below the back of the neck. There’s a small bump—that’s the gland.”
Ming Muyao forced herself to look.
And there, beneath Su Yin’s pale neck, she saw it—an area that was clearly different.
But the moment she saw it, all the silly thoughts that had been running through her head vanished.
Around Su Yin’s gland were countless marks—bite marks, cuts, even round burn scars.
What should’ve been a smooth, clean patch of skin… now looked like something mutilated, twisted and ruined—like a piece of rotting flesh.
